Some of my biggest gaming disappointments of recent years had as I have learned a few weeks ago one thing in common: Sweet Baby Inc. I pre-ordered this game but when I learned Sweet Baby Inc. worked with the devs I cancelled the pre-order. After watching your review I think it was the right call.
The combination of this game's design choices, character choices, art style and game mechanics are like if you put ice cream, radishes, relish, top soil, shoe leather, and some creamed corn into a blender, mixed it up, microwaved it for four hours, and then threw it into the snow. ...Not sure I'd consume it, you know?
I was very excited for it. Got the demo during next fest and immediately realized it wasn't for me. I was hoping for a French God Fighting Bloodborne and I'm not really sure what it even is.
Who thought that yellow outfit was a good idea? Pair that with the brown shoulder pauldron and boots and the woman looks like a bruised banana hopping around. Games today sure love giving the player hideous clothes. First it was those ugly ponchos in Jedi Fallen Order, now it's banana jumpsuits.
But Evil West was pretty focused in what it was trying to be. A fun over the top vampire slaying roller coaster. This does a lot but isnt particuarly good at anything.

It's a 6/10 game with a 8/10 soundtrack ("Liberation!" is a banger). When the upgraded combat syncs up with the soundtrack it really gets you pumped up. Overall it was a fun AA particle-effect-filled time. I hope A44 don't close down, although 75% of the folks in the comments section will clap in excitement if they do.

So, Ashen wasn't as successful as it could have been. The Social Media Manager gave out a bunch of free codes to extremely small TH-camrs (my old channel included) and presumably got fired for basically giving away copies to the fanbase. I'd have to imagine they lost a lot of the Ashen devs in the process of not being super successful. Which means they probably had to hire more junior level designers and environment artists for their new title. There were a lot of great learnings from Ashen that would have been great here and they're very much not 😢
Played the demo, too. Was very generic. I kind of liked the setting but the story never hooked me enough to keep going. After meeting Enki (fox) I only played on for about a minute, then simply lost all interest.
It's the lack of vision and pride in their work IMO. As average gamers we can see very quickly what's wrong, even from a couple of minutes of gameplay - so why can't the developers and producers!

This game is better than Forspoken. I think this reviewer is being a bit unusually harsh on the level design. The level design is good. There wasn't really platforms that led to nowhere. They usually all loop back.
This is an example of a game that cares more about checking current day boxes than actual good gameplay and storytelling. The modern audience just isn't big enough to support games like this
Sound mixing, level design, side quests, none of which are deal breakers to me. I also enjoyed the demo so i think im still giving this a shot pending what other reviews say.

Sad to see that virtually none of the issues were addressed prior to launch. Everything combined to produce a leaden experience where everything felt like a slog. A real missed opportunity here.
Already bought this on Ps. I really like the look of this so I took a chance. Played their last game Ashen and it was good, but a bit rough. This seems a large step up from that. It's not a huge developer so I can forgive some jank. Well I'll know soon enough how well I like it...
I'm playing this on PC Game Pass but the performance issues are pretty easy to fix. By default, the game sets shadows to Ultra and has NVIDIA Reflex turned on. Turn shadows down to high (which halves the GPU load), turn NVIDIA Reflex off and turn either DLSS or XeSS on. After doing that the only time the games stutters is when loading in a new area.
Tried it and it reminded me of Fallen Lords. The timing for parrying is quite "evil" when certain enemies tend to telegraph their attacks for quite a while and that so far is my only gameplay gripe. A bit buggy in the sense of it does not like me alt-tabbing too often in short timeframes but overall it's a solid game.

I don't think anything went wrong with Flintlock. It delivered on everything I hoped it would be. I've been playing so many grueling souls likes lately so it was nice to have one that was fairly simple and just something fun and easy to play. Wasn't too challenging but still had some fun action sequences and some fun boss fights.

I PLATINUMED it this morning. It’s definitely not a 10/10, but surely an 8.5/10!!! I loved it! This is AFTER getting Platinum in Sekiro and Elden Ring.
The crazy thing about the platforming is when you get tired of it you can actually miss out on key weapons that will help in the long run. I ended up getting to the very end missing two guns and a specific grenade type that turned that last boss from impossible to remedial.
All i needed to know was, Sweet Baby is involved and thats it, not touching the game, dont care how good it looks, you just know they are gonna insert their agenda somewhere in the game.
It's fine. The game is fine. The combat loop is good. The levels look and play well. But in a world where Elding Ring and two dozen souls like games come out each week. It's saturated, and people don't have to play just fine.
Damn. Given how much I loved Ashen, I was looking super forward to this game. I'll still play it since it's on GamePass, but it's sad to hear it probably won't live up to their first game for me.
Just completed it and loved it. Granted the first couple of hours were meh, but once you get some more guns and skills, its a blast! No rest 'til Dawn!
Voice is very important for me. Only reason I tried that Kenzara Zau game, that and it's free. It has the Bayek voice actor that I liked. Still wasn't a good game though.

I disagree, mixing between ranged and melee makes combat more engaging than just staying back and shoot.

The main character is pretty sweet, though. Obsessed with revenge but also kind.

The crazy thing about the platforming is when you get tired of it you can actually miss out on key weapons that will help in the long run. I ended up getting to the very end missing two guns and a specific grenade type that turned that last boss from impossible to remedial.

The trailer had me interested. Sweet Baby has me disinterested.
It's fine. The game is fine. The combat loop is good. The levels look and play well. But in a world where Elding Ring and two dozen souls like games come out each week. It's saturated, and people don't have to play just fine.
Also, the fact that a certain narrative consulting firm hijacked the original vision and story of the game.

This game used to have a more clear vision until they hired Sweet Baby Inc. and it all crumbled. The devs no longer have ambition and it shows.

Just completed it and loved it. Granted the first couple of hours were meh, but once you get some more guns and skills, its a blast! No rest 'til Dawn!

Voice is very important for me. Only reason I tried that Kenzara Zau game, that and it's free. It has the Bayek voice actor that I liked. Still wasn't a good game though.
