"TV Dinner
TV News"
I was getting worried for a while that no one was going to pick Biko, probably my favorite Peter Gabriel song.
Same. You can't possibly overlook Biko.
Lead a Normal Life deserves some love.
It made my list!
Yes! This song is kind of a sleeper.
B side of Games Without Frontiers thought it would be non LP .
My favorite Song is Mercy Street.
3:15
Joe mentioned some serious stuff.
5-CD changer!
Nostalgia
My first CD ever was Led Zeppelin "BBC Sessions"
Here comes the Flood should be in every top ten !
1. Rhythm Of The Heat
2. Family Snapshot
3. San Jacinto
4. Mercy Street
5. Wallflower
6. Red Rain
7. Solsbury Hill
8. In Your Eyes
9. Lay Your Hands On Me
10. No Self Control
PG albums work for me mostly as albums and many of his songs are much stronger in context.
HM - Of These, Hope (from Passion) and 20 others....
10. No Self Control
9. Moribund, the Burgermeister (it is one example where a song is far more meaningful when you see it as the opener for the first album, absolutely nobody knew what PG was up to when we heard that first song and where the album would go, but it took you in immediately)
8. Digging In the Dirt
7. Mother of Violence
6. Modern Love
5. Red Rain
4. Here Comes the Flood
3. Games Without Frontiers
2. Down the Dolce Vita
1. Solsbury Hill (Really great songs cannot be played to death, this has me jumping up for joy still after all these years...)
No love for Steam? Man, I dare anyone to listen to that on ear buds and not start strutting to it. Such an infectious beat to that one.
I like it a lot. - Joe
My top 10, in no particular order, nearly mirrors Kramzer this time; replace “That Voice Again” and “Big Time” with “Mercy Street” and “Biko.” Enjoyed it, as always, guys. 🖖❤️
P.S. Jason, if you have not read the book or seen the movie “Cry Freedom” yet, I highly recommend. The book is better, both are worth your time.
There's a superb version of Here Comes the Flood on Robert Fripp's Exposure album. Worth investigating if you don't know it.

2. Lay Your Hands On Me
3. Secret World (Growing Up Live)
4. Wallflower

19. San Jacinto (Peter Gabriel Plays Live)
20. Mercy Street

7. Games Without Frontiers
6. Here Comes The Flood (prefer the live versions)
5. Shock The Monkey
4. Red Rain
3. Solsbury Hill
2. San Jacinto
1. Mercy Street
Reminder: not a constant list
I'm partial to In Your Eyes but so many great songs to chose from.
No 1 Red Rain.
No San Jacinto? 😢
Nice lists fellas. Love Gabriel and a top ten would be brutal... so props!
That was the last one I cut; #11. -Jason
I went to spin some Gabriel and realized I only have “Security”. Went to my local and bought the only Gabriel in stock. “Car” is now spinning. So bloody good!!
Top 3 - Moribund The Burgermeister - Games Without Frontiers & Solsbury Hill.
Love Moribund. - Joe
Well done mates.
Only ever owned and listened to his first five and bits and pieces off Us so my list is culled from that:
10 Excuse Me
9 I Don’t Remember
8 Don’t Give Up
7 Down the Dolce Vita/Here Comes the flood (sorry I cheated here combining these)
6 Solsbury Hill
5 Games Without Frontiers
4 Moribund the Burgermiester (could have come straight off of The Lamb)
3 Sledgehammer
2 Shock the Monkey
1 No Self Control
Nothing off Scratch for me I gave up on that album but maybe I should revisit it. I couldn’t get into it but this was probably around 25 years ago now
Like Jaon, my list is dominated by Melt
10 In Your Eyes
9 Blood of Eden
8 Family Snapshot
7 No Self COntrol
6 Intruder
5 Sledgehammer
4 Lead A Normal Life
3 Wallflower
2 Games Without Frontiers
1 SOLSBURY HILL
Some interesting choices. "Shock The Monkey" (with that incredible video), and the beautiful "In Your Eyes" have to be my top two. Some favourites that have yet to be mentioned are: "Humdrum", "Down The Dolce Vita", "I Go Swimming" and "Walk Through The Fire".
Kramzers list for the win 🏆 I can't believe Solsbury Hill only made 1 list
Tired of it a little. - Joe
@@TastesLikeMusic it's maybe on my top 10 all time list, I'm not sure why but it's always connected with me. I remember hearing it in my car when it first came out
Kramzer nails this one! Great lists. Lately 'Mercy Street' has been my go-to PG. Heck, anything from "So".
Really happy he got rich off So but....
10. Blood Of Eden
9. Indigo
8. Humdrum
7. Digging In The Dirt
6. Mother Of Violence
5. Lay Your Hands On Me
4. Intruder
3. Here Comes The Flood
2. No Self Control
1. San Jacinto
Really hard to narrow down this list. The 10 I came up with:
1. Family Snapshot
2. The Rhythm Of The Heat
3. Intruder
4. Sledgehammer
5. Games Without Frontiers
6. Red Rain
7. Solsbury Hill
8. Shock The Monkey
9. Signal To Noise
10. Secret World
Didn’t mean to have so many S songs in a row there. 😂 “Biko”’, “No Self Control” and “I Don’t Remember” could also have made it in there on another day. “Steam” (yeah I know, “Sledgehammer” rewrite, but I still think it’s awesome), “On The Air” and “Growing Up” are also bubbling under.
Hi.
My top 10, but I can't give Numbers:
Digging in the Dirt
Games Without Frontiers
A different drum
Downside Up
Signal to Noise
The rythm of the Heat
The family and the fishing net
Family snapshot
BIKO
In your Eyes (but only live)
In your eyes on SO did nothing for me but the live version PG did at the NEC on the SO tour was just a wow what was that moment. It is one of the best live tracks I've heard by any artist.Thankfully he's always had it as the encore on the US , UP & SO 25th tours. Off the studio albums I've always loved Red Rain , Family Snapshot(my number 1) , San Jacinto , Blood of Eden & Secret World .
Hi guys, another great video. A bit of info regarding Games Without Frontiers - this song references a popular TV game show from Europe which had teams from different town in Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium & UK among them playing silly games in outsized costumes. The UK version. Was called “It’s A Knockout” and it was called “Jeux Sans Frontiers” in Europe. Hence the mention of the two phrases in the lyrics and reference to “playing silly games”. You might be able to view some of them on TH-cam.
That explains a lot. - Joe
I composed this list off the top of my head, and it is subject to revision upon further reflection. 1-3 are solid, but after that anything could change.
1. Biko
2. Here Comes the Flood
3. Games Without Frontiers
4. Red Rain
5. Sledgehammer
6. Big Time
7. Steam
8. In Your Eyes
9. Solsbury Hill
10. Shock the Monkey
To me, nothing matches the emotional weight of Biko. Live performances of that song are amazing. Incidentally, there is another version of Here Comes the Flood which was released on a Fripp solo album, and which I actually prefer. It's not too different; probably produced from the same sessions and just slightly better mix. Other than the top three songs here, I don't listen to much Peter Gabriel any more. Maybe I'll make a playlist and give him some listens again.
'Digging in the dirt'... with Peter Hammill on backing vocals...
10. That Voice Again
9. Digging In The Dirt
8. Shock The Monkey
7. Big Time
6. Solsbury Hill
5. I Don't Remember
4. And Through The Wire
3. Not One Of Us
2. Modern Love
1. Games Without Frontiers
Wow I accidentally ignored the 2nd album. Oops - pretty good record though
That Kramer dude lost some weight. Lookin fit bud... rock on boss
In no order, just total top 10
Talk to me
Hill
On the air
DIY
Wire
Frontiers
Don’t remember
I have the touch
Lay you hands on me
Red rain
Through the Wire is a great track - I love the ending
I liked Jason's list the best.
I'm not doing a top ten but when I watched the video and read the comments, I have a little cheer inside when the following came up
Don't Give Up
Mercy Street
Intruder
Here Comes The Flood
And I'm assuming they'd be pretty high in my list. Then it would just be a question of how many more came from Melt and So with a few from Car also under consideration.
Jason wins hands down!
SLEDGEHAMMER IS THE ONLY ANSWER FOR 1. It was a slammer back in 86
Sledgehammer is a masterpiece. I saw him with Sting a few years back .
Anyone like Love town ? Wonderful Song....
Back in the ‘80’s I lived in Germany and when his third and fourth albums came out, Gabriel also released the German language versions. I must of played them a million times on my homemade cassette tapes while cruising down the Autobahn. So, if I were to make a playlist of my 10 favorite Peter Gabriel songs (not including his Genesis compositions) it would be this in no particular order:
Moribund The Burgermeister
Jetzt Kommt die Flut (Here Comes the Flood)
Eindringling (Intruder)
Darkness
Digging in the Dirt
San Jacinto (German version)
Spiel Ohne Grenzen (Games Without Frontiers)
Shaking the Tree
Schock den Affen (Shock the Monkey)
Biko (German version)
With my little German, I recall that Burgermeister is actually a German word, right? Meaning a town mayor. Not that it explains the song any better...I also spent a year in Germany in the 80s but I missed those versions even though I knew they existed.
@@roxannewalsh, yes. Burgermeister is the German word for mayor. And the German versions should be easily found on Apple Music.
So difficult to figure out what my top songs would be in order, much less a top 10. Here are the songs I enjoy the most: 1) (Car) Moribund The Burgermeister, Solsbury Hill; 2) (Scratch) On The Air, Mother Of Violence, White Shadow; 3) (Melt) Intruder, Biko; 4) (Security) The Rhythm Of The Heat (how did NONE of you mention this one?), Lay Your Hands On Me, Wallflower; 5) (So) Red Rain, In Your Eyes; 6) (Passion - you didn't include it, but I have to since it's my favorite album of his) The Feeling Begins, A Different Drum, Zaar, Passion; 7) (Us) Come Talk To Me, The Blood Of Eden, Only Us, Secret World. Sounds like a decent top 21 - again, not sure how I could break them down into a Top 10.
You've all missed probably his best song - Wallflower.
Pretty much agree with Krams list, love Peter Gabriel, but hate Sledgehammer, maybe have heard it too much.
Top five: Games without frontiers, Family snapshot, Red rain, Solisbury hill, Secret world.
I don’t know what’s wrong with people who don’t like Sledgehammer, one of the best pop songs ever written. It’s absolutely bizarre. - Joe
Isn't Robert Fripp a brilliant guitar player? His work with Eno too is fantastic
Some of his best work is on other people's albums, Eno is superb, probably you also know Van der Graaf Generator and his unforgettable contribution to Bowie's Heroes (and others).
@@roxannewalsh His work on Blondie's Fade Away and Radiate still gives me goosebumps.
@@Ianmackable Here we have the baseline for another possible list, right? Or maybe several - King Crimson for me is one of the most underrated bands of the last 50 years...if anyone had earned the title "progressive" it is Fripp & Co. who always pushed the barriers forward with inventive music.
Surprised that no one voted for secret world and blood of eden. My top three: Red rain, Solisbury Hill, Family snapshot. Never really liked Sledgehammer, maybe it's played too much.
No San Jacinto?
That was my instant pick for number 1
"The Heat" from Birdy!
Birdy is awesome
My Top 10:
1. Red Rain
2. Games Without Frontier
3. Big Time
4. Diggin In the Grave
5. Shaking The Tree
6. I don´t Remember
7. Biko
8. Kiss that Frog
9. Shock The Monkey
10. Sledgehammer
Greetings from Canary Islands
If you asked a monkey to rank Peter Gabriel's songs, I know what they'd put at the bottom.
Maybe someone has already suggested this. If not...Joe, you really need to listen to Robert Fripp's album Exposure. Really.
I definitely will. Thanks. - Joe
A question... Jason and Kramzer. First album you ever owned?
Melancholy and the infinite sadness
Hard to say for sure, I can’t really even remember a time when I didn’t have a collection. Maybe Crazy Nights by Kiss when I was about 4 yrs old. 🤷🏻♂️ -Jason
Yeah... That's the first I bought myself... Owned? Can't recall
@@ryankramzer1256 That will do. I find it funny when I was 8, my dad bought me Appetite For Destruction. Hilarious when you think about it. 😂
Elton John: Greatest Hits Vol. 1. I think I memorized the song credits on the inner sleeve. As a kid, I'm like...'What the heck is an electric piano'?
Note for Future Reference: Jason is almost always right.
Including Biko, Here Comes The Flood, and Intruder is the right thing to do.
The list (in no particular order):
Moribund The Burgermeister,
Here Comes The Flood (version off of Fripp's Exposure album)
Solsbury Hill
Mother Of Violence
Intruder
Biko
Family Snapshot
San Jacinto
Rhythm of the Heat
In Your Eyes
Wait no love for DIY and I go swimming?
Can’t fit in everything.
Joe has Sledgehammer as No 1? Bloody hell, it's the song I skip on the album.
One of the greatest pop songs ever written. 🫠 - Joe
1 - San Jacinto
2 - Mercy Street
3 - Downside Up
4 - Across the River
5 - Wallflower
6 - Lead a Normal Life
7 - No Self Control
8 - Not One of Us
9 - On the Air
10 - Wonderful Day in a One Way World
If we were including soundtracks Birdy would certainly feature a couple of tracks on the list too. I had to include Downside Up even though Peter doesn't sing on the album version I saw it live performed by himself and his daughter was truly amazing - definitely one of the best concerts I ever saw.
