    Yes, I would like to see a video on modifying meta data like date, location, etc. for scanned pictures. This way my NAS can sort them correctly. Thanks.

      @MerciaSolutions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi I will take a look at how to do that, what NAS do you have and which application on the NAS are you using to sort them. I will see if I can identify what fields / tags would need to be populated. Exiftool will more than likely be able to do this.

      @@MerciaSolutions I have a Synology NAS and am using Photo Station 6.2. It will eventually go to Synology Photo 7. I am thinking to start with date “taken” and estimated gps location. Typically files are JPEG, ARW, HEIC, and MOV, MP4. Concern is correct format as to not corrupt file as I have only started looking at the specific formats for each file format. Thanks for considering doing this as I am sure a lot of people have scanned files with no real basic meta data. Regards.

      @@MerciaSolutions Thanks for the video. I have been searching and comparing several editing metadata software with my criteria. It’s a bit hard to find good reviews on them so I have been getting free versions and testing them on a subset of defined pics. I am surprised more people are not interested in this.

    I want to make sure, does this apply for audio metadata from FLACs, MP3s...?

      Hi exiftool supports ID3 and Lyrics3 metadata therefore should be able view and extract change the details in these tags. Full list of tags supported are on exiftool website.

    Thanks for the video!
    I have about 5000 images with the metadata saved in a separate csv file.
    How can I use Exiftool to write all of this metadata to the corresponding file?
    It would really help me alot. Thanks in advance.

    • @MerciaSolutions
      @MerciaSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely will be able to use exiftool to write the metadata from a cab. I have not yet done this but may add a future video to show doing this.

    I've tried using Exiftool so many times because people keep saying it's "easy" and "basic" and stuff like that. Nothing about it looks simple to me. Once again, I'm giving up on it.

      Shame, have a look at the exiftool gui video might just be the solution your looking for. Also have another video on how to install exiftool.

    Completely new to Exiftool and 'comands'. At this point I'd just like to edit/change the Camera Model Name but have no idea how to (e.g. Exiftoll 101). Can anyone please help me out. That aside, well presented video.

    while saving to excel all the values are being written to only one cell
    for each image the entire data is being written to only the 1st column how to solve this
    please help

    • @MerciaSolutions
      @MerciaSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi you need to import a csv to excel or open as a csv "comma-separated values". Excel will then know each cell is to be serperated by a comma.

    Can anyone point me to a reference doing this exact thing just in Mac OS Terminal?

    • @MerciaSolutions
      @MerciaSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the syntax should be very similar on the Mac terminal. The path naming convention will require using a forward slash, not a backslash, as in windows.

    I tried doing this, but the date I get from the mp4 video, is showing the date today which is when I downloaded it, so it's not showing the original time file was created.

    • @MerciaSolutions

      Sounds like the file has already had all metadata stripped from the file.

    i keep getting a C:\Program Files\Exiftool> exiftool .\list[1].pdf
    Error: File not found - ./list[1].pdf
    Please help

    • @MerciaSolutions
      @MerciaSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Diego, the ".\ " denotes the current directory the error is therefore saying it cannot find the file list[1].pdf in the "C:\Program Files\Exiftool" . Try replacing exiftool with dir to list the files and make sure the path the pdf file is correct. you can also use cd to change the directory. If you havent take a look at video as how I install exiftool so you can use it in any location on the file system. There are a few tricks in opening the path directly from explorer that I use in the video which make things a lot quicker and simplify the process.
