    I too own an Urban Enduro and awaiting delivery of the Desert Sled. I live in the Northern part of your back ground Whisky Distilleries of Scotland map. these bikes love the Speyside roads.

    Great video, funny too. I am in the process of deciding what bike to get to tour around the mountains here in China. EVERYONE here insists on the BMWs but I am not so sure. I wonder if the sled is up to it?

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! BMW and DUCATI have good stuff - but different. Try to have testrides and let your heart decide which one fits to you.

    Q: for a guy who is not going to jump the bike and will mostly go down dirt roads, dirt trails, and easier single tracks; is the extra weight of the desert sled worth it? I I have a DRZ400 now (which I will keep) but the scramblers look very attractive.

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The DRZ is a real Cross-Country bike and the Desert Sled will offer more fun on the street. DRZ has less weight but a higher center of gravity. If you already like the DRZ you may be happy with the Desert Sled as well. As always you should do a testride before buying...

    Since you owned the Urban Enduro, do you think that Termi high mount exhaust will mount up to the Desert Sled? I, too, just picked up a Desert Sled and I'd like to know if the exhausts that are already available will work with the Desert Sled.

    • @Preuling

    hello!! I really enjoyed all your scrambler videos..could you please tell me if the DS has more progressive throttle response compared to previous scrambler? I think that you must have noticed that throttle response in standard scrambler was a little like an on/off switch at least in traffic in low rpm..thanks!!!

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Christos, thanks! At first I did not notice too much difference. But this might be due to the different exhaust/mapping at my UE. In the end the DS reacts smoother to the throttle.

    I’m 6’2, and I was considering the urban enduro, but after watching your video and seeing that the desert sled is overall higher, would it be the better choice over the urban?

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With your height I recommend the Desert Sled. With the lower UE you may risk that your legs fall asleep when doing longer trips...

    So…
    They're both quite off-road capable, but, apart from the technical stuff; what's the real difference between both bikes?

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DS behaves somewhat more inert but runs more stable in sand and ruts.

  • @chrisenduroadv1405
    @chrisenduroadv1405 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just brought a new Enduro and it's not really capable for touring... do you think the scrambler is a good touring bike?

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on your definition of 'tour'. There is a lady, 'Alicia Sornosa', who goes around the world with it.

  • @moulin680
    @moulin680 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Like your video, thanks! So, is the Desert sled a lot more "offroad " than the Urban? What is the best part of it comparing the both? How much taller does it feel? I have a 30inch inseam... wonder if I will be able to put both feet down...
    Cheers from Nashville!

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      moulin6801 Thanks! My inseam measures app 32" and there's still some clearance left. IMHO main advantages are the bigger frontwheel and suspension. Will do a longer trip next week 😊

    • @ripmax333
      @ripmax333 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can check here about your inseam and how you would fit on the bike cycle-ergo.com/ but consider also that this site doesn't consider the rider sag when it's on the bike.

    how tall are you ?

  • @alpap1980
    @alpap1980 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the seating position feel more upright on the Desert Sled?

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite similar. Rider's position between the wheels is somewhat the same, thus the difference between height of handlebar and seat plays a role:
      2015 Scrambler:
      Handlebar height 1150mm (1104 FT) - Seat height 790mm = 360mm (314mm FT)
      2017 Desert Sled:
      Handlebar height 1210mm - Seat height 860mm (840mm low seat) = 350mm (370mm low seat)
      A Desert Sled with low seat would be quite more upright than a Full Throttle or Cafe Racer. Best thing is to test-ride and probably varying handlebar positioning.

    • @alpap1980
      @alpap1980 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure the Desert Sled with low seat seems more upright according to the numbers but the UE handlebar is closer to the body of the rider...so this may compensate the less height...I keep reading that DS owners buy rox risers to bring the handlebar closer to the body...so they don't have to bend...Thank you for your detailed input...

    @davidamsden2830 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice comparison. Can't wait to hear how the Sled handles off road with the TKC80s. I currently have them on my WR250x, and was thinking the DS would be a nice upgrade to something with more all around potential-a bike I could take for a long highway trip with off road detours. That said, I tested it a week or so back and felt like it lost some pep with the Euro 4 remapping. Do you find it less snappy than the UE?

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It feels less snappier, but I have changed my UE mapping already a long time ago - so it's difficult to be objective. I just returned from an enjoyable weekend trip with the DS. It will take some weeks to edit the material. There are already some snapshots at instagram if you like: instagram.com/preuling/

    • @davidamsden2830
      @davidamsden2830 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can't wait for that edit-you're clearly using it as I'd like to, and I suppose I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting as a replacement to my WR250. The WR, I know, will always be better in the dirt, but I'm not looking for the most technical machine so much as something that can handle long jaunts on highways, be a blast in the twisties, and take me comfortably down some dirt paths I pass along the way. My other bike is a 72 CB750, so the DS kind of gives me the best of the two, or so I'm thinking.

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...sounds like a plan :-)

    • @kaizenkowboy
      @kaizenkowboy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm also looking at the desert sled for exactly the same use that you describe. I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra cash (over the standard scrambler) - I mean if I will not be doing serious off road riding then probably the Scrambler or an F800GS will be enough? (Is the Desert Sled just appealing to me because I know it's stronger and can handle some abuse, even if I probably won't use it that way!) That's my current thinking...

    • @Preuling
      @Preuling  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      kaizenkowboy: Suspension of the DS is far better than std (upgrading fork+rearshock would eat up the cost advantage).If you are taller than 1,80m you may feel more comfortable on the DS. You may try out at your dealer.
