Man I'd love to see someone make a 3D level running off of the Saturn hardware/emulation. Just to see how well something like this would have ran back then.
This looks absolutely amazing! I would love to see a fan game of a Sega Saturn version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, my favorite 2D Sonic game! But the animation stills being way past cool!
Considering how the sega saturn was already out in november 1994 in japan I'm surprised sega didn't think to bring that game over to the saturn by 1995 just to give people are reason to by the console. Like genesis/megadrive releases for those that still have said platform but make a saturn release just to give newcomers a reason to get the console if they're new to sega consoles or if people are moving from genesis to saturn.

Edit: appearently the pseudo 3d (isometric view) was an idea from Sega, with Sonic Team refusing because the technology for it would have taken a lot of time to be developed and they wanted the whole game (the one we would know as Sonic3&K) released much earlier than they would have had they gone with this. Then, after some time, since their vision for the game was too big for one cartrige and they needed to bring out something for the McDonald's collaboration they divided the game into Sonic 3 and Sonic&K. Tl;Dr: both things (time contrains in part caused by the McDonald's collab and the initial idea of an isometric view Sonic 3 not followed because it would take too much time) are true but most likely unrelated to eachother.
@@francescocalabrese441 They were making Sonic 3 using SVP chips used in Virtua Racing, and they didn't have enough time to mass produce SVP chips because their collaboration with McDonald's was running out of time. That's why they couldn't make Sonic 3 in 3D.
