It is basically just a piece of hard plastic which rolls along a metal tube. When the handle with the rope is pulled, it gets the plastic piece rolling, pushing the shuttle along the race through the shed. At the other end it gets caught by the plastic piece and pushes it back, so it is ready to get going back. That's exactly right, no mechanical linkages or forces. The whack with my hand/arm accelerates the shuttle to roll along the race to the other end of the beater. Please note that the boatshuttle is a fly shuttle with metal points and rollers.
There must be a better way to throw the shuttle. Foot pedal? or throwing string attached to front beam? Mmm other than a computer or electricity. Let me think about that
