I think what's also cool about this new series is how involved the gym leaders are, Namely Iono, She Even showed up during the Black Rayquaza fight of all things.
I love Dot and Roy’s mentor style relationship to their gym leader but Liko wasn’t really given that I mean I’m not complaining, great that we will see Iono (probably) frequently and maybe Brassius again but Katy didn’t really bond as much with Liko as the other two. Maybe they will go back to it later or Friede is supposed to be a mentor type to Liko Also I think we were robbed with Paldean Winds, instead of adding to the Paldean cast like Twilight Wings did we got completely 3 new characters. I hope HZ fills in the gaps, Iono appears a lot so atleast we will probably get some hints at what her past was like
Yea Palawan Wings should be revisited, that series was amazingly. Its so weird they kinda treated Liko’s test like a throwaway but Friede does seem like the father figure/mentor atp
I think Friede is more meant as Liko's mentor figure overall, but she also could develop a secondary mentor with another gym leader down the line. After all, the trio will conceivably keep challenging the other gym leaders (and maybe the Elite Four) for the Intermediate and Advanced parts of the course that likely will come later on. That said, I certainly hope they do an adaption of Teal Mask and Indigo Disk...especially considering what happened in regard to Terapagos in the latter 👀
@@Unstealleon yup, doesn’t need to be Even tho the things they may do in the episodes may not be canon in the anime they still give more insight and screen time to said characters
I think part of it is how the game tackled Paldea to begin with In this game, more than others, it felt to me like they designed a society where battles are more of a pastime or event rather than the center of the universe The leaders feel more like people having their own lives and doing battles as a hobby/side job (I mean Larry straight up tells us that) so the writers adapted that to the show making the characters feel like living, breathing people rather than animatronics that turn on to battle and go into sleep mode after they're done At least that's the feeling I'm getting from this
i definitely think gym battles so far are a lot more realistic. then again though this is their basics test, i dont think these are the same as their gym battles bc they aren't getting gym badges, theyre getting stamps. tehy're also going back to school after so I definitely think they will be expectedto actually win against gyms later on, the Basics Test in my opinion was quite obviously just "terastal basics: when to use it, how to use it and what it does", and the actual gym battles will be later on as they learn how to use terastal in school. im also thinking this bc there is a timeskip in the s&v games after the player enrolls in the school before we are presented with the 3 roads.
This is how gym leaders should be. This is what weve been wanting. In no world would a 10 yo kid just walk up and beat a gym leader. The gym leaders give out tests, they assess the trainer and decide whether or not they are worthy of the badge, regardless of whether they won or loss. That said, geeta is still irredeemable in the games because she says she never holds back which would mean she is literally the weakest champion rank trainer 💀Hopefully they fix her in the anime
Yeah, they fixed her up in the DLC. Leading Glimmora and trailing Kingambit to fully utilize their abilities plus half her team was subbed out for stronger choices. She a real threat.
So you don't have any problem with game's protagonists causally defeating gym leaders by just using one Pokemon but you have problem when Ash Ketchum Not only defeats gym leaders with 3-4 Pokemons BUT ALSO HE USES GREAT STRATEGIES?. Great!
@@Unstealleon there is a big difference between the games and the anime. The games are an experience for you, the player. You are the one who chooses what your story and journey will look like. But anime is not a choose your own adventure medium. it is trying to tell a story. Themes that can be explored in the anime like trust, friendship, self-confidence, creativity, willpower etc. are not translatable into a game. While it is cool to see ash be a strong trainer, and ultimately become the strongest, he is still a child. That kind of 'you can be the very best' storytelling already exists in the games, its kind of redundant to do it all over again with the anime. The characters actually need money, liko and roy are under adult supervision etc. Having gyms be more of a learning experience rather than a strict battle prowess test is much more interesting and provides for good story beats

I think there's a way writers could've handled Katy vs Liko without nerfing her so hard. The writers didn't give Floragato a depth in moveset, but I still think she could do something with Magical Leaf, especially with its secondary effect that distinguishes it from the move Leafage. I think Magical Leaf should been used as a Counter Shield because the move can be controlled same as Ampipom's Swift where it is used defensively and offensively. Would be great blast from the past and wouldn't make Liko look like a sitting duck. The last time Magical Leaf bypass of accuracy check was animated was in her battle against Roy, which is disappointing because the modern anime usually emphasizes moves' secondary effect.
I agree the move has utility, idk if their purposely not focusing on Liko not getting better as a battler to emphasize that’s not the path she’s chosen but I mean come on her starter has so much potential power scaling wise
@@UmbreonxUmbreon At this point, it's better the writers scrap Magical Leaf for Petal Blizzard (makes sense for the yoyo flower bud). And learn Acrobatics or Play Rough. They made her a one trick pony yet not even have her make full use of Magical Leaf secondary effect.
