Hello I am from Japan. I saw this version for the first time. I have seen his performance in Tokio over 20 years before. Sometimes this song was very helpful for me. And now also I am very impressed by this song. I shared this video on my weblog. Thank you for posting this video.
The band was: John Cale - piano, organ, clavinet, vocals Timi Donald - drums Pat Donaldson - bass Chris Spedding - guitar Chris Thomas - keyboards It was broadcasted by Tele 5 on German TV in 1989.
One of the best openers ever for one of the best albums ever recorded.
Like Brian Eno with passion. I found a new musical obsession today.
Hope you got better by now.

Creo que esto es bastante anterior a 1989.
What a band! I saw Chris Spedding in there, but the rest are legendary musicians on their own.
The Helen of Troy lineup...
@@arcevihYeah, that haircut Cale's sporting is right out of 1975...
One of my favourite songs of all time. John Cale is a gem
i had the Honor of seeing JC live in a tiny punk club (930 club) in washington dc about 1980 ? stunning performance.....Sabotage Live tour I recall !
I saw that tour as well. Striking. In the mid 80s, this band - with Chris Spedding - played at The Bottom Line in NYC quite frequently.
The guitar guy chris is kinda hot
Damn-- this is so beautifully pure, raw and intense it makes me...😢
Holy shit! That’s the best thing I have ever seen on the internet.
Have you ever seen John Cale, buddy? He looks like him, he sings like him, he wears same sunglasses John Cale used to wear those years...
RayBans
underrated tune
John and the band had a reputation for going crazy at the end of his songs, with good effect.
Awesome!
John is a genius, seen?
Of two centuries in a row. That's quite a feat. You could say that again.
miss yuccalina, i have loved this song forever, glad you like it,i'm from chicago
thank you
Bloody good
I like how Cale fucks with Chris Spedding musically
Didn't realize he played with Chris Spedding back then. Saw just the two if them in the mid 80's in DC.
That’s Spedding?!?
John Cale, Tele5...¿Estoy soñando?
No es un sueño, el logo no deja lugar a dudas.
Fucking Brilliant! (to repeat saxboe)
This is velvet underground John cale, right?
yep
Yes.
fuck yes it is friend
Can't imagine who else it could be
No its a janitor on their nites off
3:10 how the fuck did he make that sound on the piano?
I think its the backing keyboards
Its the electric piano that answers the acoustic piano in the intro. In a very high octave
Chris Spedding on guitar here.
I thought it was Brian Ferry on guitar?
@carayoshizumi7503 Nope, Chris Spedding, 100%...
brillo
love jphn. but can you say Posession?
FAITH he is saying, is a mans best friend. And it seems the rest of the song are all new lyrics too
This sounds more like Bryan Ferry than Cale - a version of this track is on an early Roxy Music bootleg.
But it definitely IS Cale!
I have that bootleg. It's Cale on bootleg too
oes.
We're already dead, we're already in the ground
@dinkrail "but not yet in the ground"
@ 3:25 EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!
