Little suggestion for the apartment. A "Boxifier" in order to turn items back into boxes for managing computer resources (Incase you have a bunch of guns laying around in your apartment) and for transporting into the city
Perhaps the boxes the player creates can be opened with just the press of a button? Imagine they turn into a suitcase you can walk around with, only to sling out a shotgun in your target's meaty face!
a different kind of container like the backpack or guncase that 'culls' the physics of whatever's placed inside it, and when it's 'closed' it culls the geometry of the objects, you could have like, a backpack, a briefcase and a locker to keep in your apartment. or we could just pay a delivery surcharge, but that's not as cool.
Forests? Night vision? Autonomous AI? Shopping system? You're building to a horror level aren't you? Maybe some sort of weiner based cryptid that we have to hunt? I'm down for that!
Anton that box opening thing is probably the most satisfying thing ever. I'm so excited to see where you're going with Contract Griller. Honestly getting to see you slowly develop the gamemode from the ground up and watching every feature slowly polish out has been incredibly entertaining. Always fun to catch a new devlog from you. I've also been catching some of the streams and they've been very fun to watch.
You should play Heat Signature for research for contract griller, they do a REALLY good job of providing context and incentive to take contracts for money on multiple layers. By having randomly generated player characters that can die permanently if you don't take care of them with just enough generated lore for the player to roleplay off of, it gives the player enough incentive to take contracts to accomplish their character's motivation. Then, allowing the player to save their favourite toys to show up later via the retirement system allows for continuity between runs without ruining the dificulty curve of a run. The random traits and vows add texture and variety to each run.
The pull tab for the boxes is such a brilliant little tactile touch. Very cool stuff. I did have the thought that some way to examine a gun before buying it and play around with it while its empty would be a lot of fun, as far as the shopping experience goes. Would feel cool to have that Terminator gun shop scene kinda moment of checking all the guns out one by one.
A few months ago Anton made it sound like he was winding down to "finish" the game - polish a few systems, finish a couple of projects etc. Little did we know his idea of winding down is adding AN ENTIRE FRICKING GAME to him game 😂. Very excited to try this new mode it looks amazing!
Contract Griller looks so incredible and I can't wait to get into it! I know it's not high priority, but the amount of love you've poured into this mode really shows.
"I've wonder for 10 years if having a shop laid out like this would actually be fun" I'm glad you've fulfilled the dream! One of my favorite things about VR, and it's great in Alyx in particular, is that searching a whole bunch of drawers and lockers in a game is always really fun to me and it translates 100% to VR
The act of Rummaging. Alyx plays on that too in the stealth section by having upgrade-currency in a locker, along with a whooole lot of bottles. If you're slow and careful, you're fine, if you rip that locker open, everything goes crash.
Honestly the best thing about VR is being able to have more in-depth searching/scrounging. Cuz obviously in classic 2D games you just press the interact button on a container and a UI pops up and you immediately see the items or lack thereof. Or even in games like DayZ stuff always spawns in places that are easily accessible since the player controller doesn't always allow you to see or access weird little nooks and crannies. But in VR that's an entirely different beast. Now you can open a desk drawer and maybe the item(s) aren't even _in_ the drawer itself. Instead maybe they're behind the drawer and you have to take the drawer out completely to get them. Or maybe they're in a stash behind or on top a bookshelf or under a couch. Maybe you have to open the lid to the toilet's water tank. Maybe they're in the wheel-well of a massive truck. The possibilities really are endless. And especially since in VR everything is so physical, you don't even have the classic 'Interact' prompts to give things way. You find out by just trying it or looking for yourself.
@@Beefyrulz even in 3d games it works if done right. Cache hunting in the stalker games was always fun to me, you get that ucon teasing you and then figure how to parkour to that spot
The way you're doing the shop, is why I love Blade and Sorcery's "The Baron". They do exactly that, taking weapons off the shelf, and testing them, swinging swords around.
Yeah. The weapons the Baron sells seems to fluxuate based on what kinda fighting you did in the previous mission. Example: I did a bunch of magic usage one run, and got a tier 4 staff
still really want to see the "bucks" changed to look like shotgun shells with different dollar cartridges (better for visibility and even then you can have the metal bucks currently used as coins)
Really just feels like you're trying to create what hitman vr was supposed to be, excited to see what it turns into. Love the whole shopping experience your implementing.
You should add a way to steal from the vendors either after killing them or getting away. It should also greatly decrease your reputation. It could also be fun to set it up so you can mostly pay and run which lowers the rep cost. I think you should also be able to take lones from a bank that you have to pay off on time or lose reputation and be hunted by a banking group or debt collectors that you can pay to go away or surrender and go to jail. This system definitely allows for some very fun complexity and I cant wait to see more!!
I always disliked sorting through menus in VR. But what you did here..... This is going to be the most satisfying thing in VR ever! Additionally you could do misteiry boxes with no info on them. There are gonna be people, addicted to only unboxing stuff. I love it.
Dude I've been watching you for years and I can't believe how unbelievably hard you work. I can tell how much you love this as your life's work, you're incredible to watch
I was just in a gunshop, had an RPG7 and an MG34, a Bren gun, so many AKs and AR-15s, the hi-powers were nice, both old civilian and military models, some mosins of various lengths, galils, golanis AND an RK62, which was interesting to see. But I didn't have enough time to ask prices and get anything... really nice shop. ☕🐝🇺🇸
I haven't finished the video yet but was far to excited to wait. I want to say that I personally LOVE this concept. I love your views on the shelf diving experience and this concept of having a gameplay loop in H3. I'm beyond excited to start playing with this when the time comes. I love the idea of immersove vr stores and picking through items. It amazes me how much love and attention you give to this game. Thank you so much for sticking through the hard times and all the effort you put into this. Okay, back to the video!
It's been absolutely wild to see H3VR stretch into something so crazy. I remember losing my mind when you added the MEATS mode, and then take and hold, and then the grill house and Rotweiners. Man you are absolutely insane with this game. I can't wait to get into my career of grillin'
Anton I love your approach to all of this, I currently don’t have a vr setup of my own and likely won’t for a while but every time I check in with this game I fall in love with it again, it enabled me to experience guns which I otherwise couldn’t and even then this game goes so much further than just that, thank you for this amazing game and your continued work on it
If you haven't thought of it yet it would probably be a good idea to make a "box-up" mode in the safehouse for items so they can sit in storage to take up less performance and to sell them without freaking out sosigs in the stores
The whole shopping experience scratches an itch for me I didn't even know I had. The fact it figures itself out box wise and price wise is absolutely stellar work! Bravo
I just want to say, I love your game, your passion, your narration, everything. Thank you so much for making this and showing how the design process works in a silly way
I absolutely love this idea!! How you talk about the "annoying" parts of shopping is somewhat exciting to hear, makes for some silly but good fun role playing! Very excited for this mode.
I really enjoy how much passion you have while making updates to this game, its soooo much more refreshing than the newer triple A games now adays, keep up the dev work Anton, and keep grilling those hotdogs! much love from sweden
12:50 So on the topic of buying things in this mode just to collect them, will it be possible to re-package something that you've already torn from a box? I'm sure you can imagine the heartache of opening a box but then wanting to put it back in the box for collector reasons
Okay, I came into this video thinking "oh he's just gonna do the 'Go to the vendor and UI opens' kinda thing" but nope! This is way more interesting. I love the way you game design. Always blowing my mind with the little things and details! So lovely!
Love the little pull tab for the boxes! I wonder if making it more obvious to players that they can now use it to open the box would be beneficial, like having it be a different color to the box or something
The latest dev logs have been exciting. The systems are interesting, especially the faction stuff. And your passion really shines through. You seem like you have a lot more energy. Stay happy my friend, wish you the best.
If those tabs on those boxes don't vibrate either controller a little bit when pulling on them... well... they totally should! Would add some great tactile feeling to it.
Hey so, just wanted to throw this out there; what you might be able to do for the Limited grill contracts that you can accept (It being 1 right now) you can instead make it 1 contract per-map. That way, people can accept multiple contracts, but only if those contracts are on different maps.
Okay, my absolute favorite thing from this whole thing has to be the cardboard tear tabs on the boxes. So, so satisfying :) Overall this is turning out AMAZING though, keep it up! Edit: I know I can't speak for everyone on this, but I *REALLY* don't care that we haven't had an update in a while. I'd rather you get it working right rather than rush through to appease the community.
You mentioned the mailbox system, I think it'd be cool to let you mail guns to locations on maps if you have a plan set up, maybe as part of a house upgrade system? You could maybe get a briefing room for example.
I laughed out loud when I saw the cardboard string pulling, it looks and sounds so satisfying, that is H3VR, where random things get insane amount of effort but are so good they are revolutionizing VR games
No new builds for a while, sure, but we’ve gotten some of the most exciting devlogs I’ve ever seen. I’m bouncing off the walls watching this all come together.
We must protect this man at all costs, He is doing Gods work!! Remember this is a $20 game!!! If anyone ever asks me "Hey what VR games should get" "Do you like guns?" "Yeah" "Buy H3VR!" Hands down the best VR gun game on the market by far, and it only keeps getting better.
you know what would be nice for this shopping system? being able to tap your wallet onto something (maybe that buck-bullet insertion slot) and it will automatically deposit the right amount (or as close as to right) for you, you will still have to manually slot the money back in though
This is gonna be amazing, love the dynamic of the pawn shop and the random products. Really looking forward to seeing this evolve more and become playable for us!
I think a cool thing that could fit with the theme is being able to purchase a shed or storage unit where you can display your guns like in the og hitman 2
dont have much to add that i havent already said on the past devlogs, just commenting to show support because i'm following this closely. seeing you having so much fun working on it is almost as exciting as the mode itself 😆
OH MY GOD. THIS IS WHAT IVE WANTED IN A VR GAME FOR SO LONG.... BUYING GUNS FROM AN ARSENAL WITH HUNDREDS OF CHOICES IS JUST AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (sorry I'm really tired)
Wow. This looks amazing. I can’t wait to play this mode when it’s finished. There are many aspects of this that’s was in an idea I had for a game many years ago. So glad that I’m going to be able to play something similar to it very soon. If you get this working well you could inspire other VR developers to try this on a larger scale. I’d like to play something a bit like a cross between GTA and Hitman where all the people and things in the city have permanence. One of the things that always took me out of the GTA games was the fact that you could mess up an area, drive down the street and drive back and it would be back to normal.
I love seeing how much you're enjoying this friend! I'm stoked for this! I've been loving the dev streams and have been playing so much H3 due to the excitement of this whole thing... I hope it continues to move forward and that more of your wildest dev dreams come true. Peace!
Okay, so the gas station needs to sell the Fruit/Butt bag, for me to pack away my wares; this is maybe a bit too ambitious, but robbing the shops for fast cash but a huge hit to rep would be a lot of fun, like behind the counter is a hidden box of, say, a hundred bucks but you have to contend with all the guards and potential cops, and making future excursions more dangerous. Your enthusiasm for this mode coming together is so fucking contagious, Anton. I think I'm excited for Contract Griller more than I was Satisfactory 1.0, and I've had my eye on that literally every day since a release date dropped. Happy Friday, man. Peace.
This mode is exactly the slice of life sim i want in VR. Sure i can do some grilling and contracts but i can also walk around and take in the world. H3 again solidified as the number 1 game i want to play when i put on my headset
just recently started playing vr again after taking a break for a few months and H3VR was the first thing i jumped back into and ive been enjoying the new take and hold map and all the new crisp models and sounds thanks for making a game i know ill enjoy no matter how long I take a breather from this knee destroying medium! (I often forget to bend my legs while playing for extended periods of time) this new gamemode is looking really fun and i cant wait to try it out.
I can already imagine getting into lategame, having a mega kitted-out gun and getting a contract to storm a heavilly fortified compound owned by a bazzilionaire. Amazing work as always Anton!
A disguise system would be cool. Maybe there’s like a cop or guard sausage who if you kill will drop a hat and badge, then you can get closer to higher value targets
I cant even begin to imagine the amount of hair pulling anger one would receive from building a system like this would make. Especially some random error on line 548 for a random syntax error or string related issue. At least Unity is built on C# not C++ so its easier to work with. Thanks for the update Anton!
It would be cool to see the chars and chills each have a faction specific black market store that you can only access with enough rep that have different types of guns or something so you can make a choice to help a certain faction because they give you access to your preferred weapon
My retail training says left justify, and the boxes should have the picture facing out, but this is excellent work. I can't wait to see it be a working demo block out loop
I love how the pawn shop sells a lot more of the "boring" guns, giving them a lot more exposure and making the player feel a whole lot less powerful

color coded boxes might be a good idea, could be nice to tell at a glance if that big box in the back is a gun or an unusually well-packaged brick
Color coded or even textures and markings to distinguish like olive-drab boxes for military surplus and such.
Tape markings would be cool cause it wouldn't disrupt the classic cardboard flavor.
Different tape for different parts would be nice
still just a prototype, I imagine those details will be filled in eventually :)

I think a cool thing that could fit with the theme is being able to purchase a shed or storage unit where you can display your guns like in the og hitman 2
dont have much to add that i havent already said on the past devlogs, just commenting to show support because i'm following this closely. seeing you having so much fun working on it is almost as exciting as the mode itself 😆
ok this is actually looking super fun, I need to get that aftermarket headband for my quest to stop me getting tons of headaches from playing VR
random food items really add to my immersion in these games for some reason
3:18 that's big smoke
3:09 This is a CUBE! -Anton Hand 2024
just recently started playing vr again after taking a break for a few months and H3VR was the first thing i jumped back into and ive been enjoying the new take and hold map and all the new crisp models and sounds thanks for making a game i know ill enjoy no matter how long I take a breather from this knee destroying medium! (I often forget to bend my legs while playing for extended periods of time) this new gamemode is looking really fun and i cant wait to try it out.
Having some sort of gun safe in the safe house would be cool so you can save lots of items without affecting performance
I’m so hyped for this, keep up the awesome work
I can already imagine getting into lategame, having a mega kitted-out gun and getting a contract to storm a heavilly fortified compound owned by a bazzilionaire. Amazing work as always Anton!
A disguise system would be cool. Maybe there’s like a cop or guard sausage who if you kill will drop a hat and badge, then you can get closer to higher value targets
"this is a *c u b e*" had me rolling XD
I never thought I'd ever like VR shopping
I cant even begin to imagine the amount of hair pulling anger one would receive from building a system like this would make. Especially some random error on line 548 for a random syntax error or string related issue.
At least Unity is built on C# not C++ so its easier to work with.
Thanks for the update Anton!
Oh my god dude. This is gonna be insanely fun. Cant wait to try this out!
Can confirm, unboxing goodies in Rec Room VR is super pleasurable with the "cardboard box with a chunky pull tab" mechanic. It's perfectly made.
i feel like certain items being in enormous packaging is a gag in and of itself
Cannot wait for this update! This looks absolutely amazing!
Love the quality and love you put in the game. Good job man! Cant wait to try it :)
Man, the shop thing looks great! I can't wait for the game loop to flesh out!
