Being new to this, and only have been driving truck for 6 months, I’ve noticed a lot of drivers who don’t run, “the trucker way”, what I mean by that, is the communication and the willingness to tell others about dangers and when traffic is slowing or stopped. I’m only 23 years old, and wish I was able to have gotten into this industry when truck drivers where all friendly and caring of others. I remember pumping my arm out of my parents car to get trucks to honk. Stay safe out there brother, enjoy watching the videos. It’s a risk most of us are willing to take and pay for when we are out here. Most of all, glad you were able to make it out, and you aren’t hurt. And the truck is still in one piece.

Respect and brotherhood are earned amongst each other and not automatically given. Old truckers are mad at the world everywhere you look at any given 5pm truck stop. There’re many videos on TH-cam and FB of old truckers going off and bad mouthing newer truckers at truck stops for dumping a half empty bottle of water from the window and other none littering issues. In Monee, IL pilot, I saw an old trucker cutting hoses and other things from a parked truck while the driver slept inside. I called the state troopers and sheriff’s dept’ on him. I woke up the violated driver after the old sucker went back to his truck and made him aware of everything. The world isn’t going to standby just for them old truckers. They need to get with the program as there are not enough truck stops and rest areas.
There are videos of old truckers going off on the new coffee machines inside of truck stop. These are the guys who caused the reason we have ELDs today because they drove on hours and hours and got in to catastrophic accidents. 1971 on I-44 around Joplin, MO area an old trucker was involved in an accident that caused a damage around 50 miles. His body was never found. The crater of around 40ft deep and 75ft wide is still there today. My point is, not all old truckers are angels just like the newer truckers have grounds to make themselves better for our overall image as truckers.

Yeah, I’m a student with “Blue” and I drove the 80 in WY these dates. I did a lot of miles at 45 - 50 with my flashers on. Trucks passed me mad with their air horns blasting, not everybody, not even most. Most trucks didn’t, but I’m sure that type of personality is the type that end up on their sides.

Tonight, on my regular route, I saw a chip truck overturned on a u-turn exit. Likely took the turn too fast (chip trucks tend to have a fairly high center of gravity). Heard through a friend who works at that company that the driver was airlifted to the hospital with life threatening injuries, not expected to make it. The weather wasn't particularly bad tonight, but it got away from the driver. Glad to see that you made it out okay. To all others watching this video, be safe, take it slow, get home safe.

You should have pulled off at the first place your gut told you too before the swift truck interception. That's the tough part thought. Imagine the bliss you would feel if you had done that after you found out about the mayhem ahead. Haste makes waste and your guardian angel will always send you a message to your instinct. We have to learn to react quickly to that important message. BTW truckers here in Canada always put their hazards on when their speed drops on steep inclines, as a car driver we appreciate that.

If your driving west in the winter months it’s time to dump those super singles, especially if you have only 1 drive axle. These mileage trucks will get stuck on flat icy road, never mind a road with any grade. I get the importance of mileage, but there is a reason for a power divider and 8 powered drives.

That is the whole essence of the story. Yet keeping extra following distance, right speed according to weather and road conditions would never let-down a driver.

The Wyoming state trooper was just closing the road when I pulled up. I was young ... and a fool. But ...
"Sir, I can burrow in and camp here if necessary, but I've got a warm bed on the other side of the pass." He just paused, then turned his back for a moment. I snicked my Beemer (2-wheels) into gear, and pulled out on Interstate 80. He gave me a hundred yards head start, pulled out behind me ... and followed me over the pass.
I'm an old man now, but I remember. "Sir, I have no idea where you are tonight, or even if you're still with us. But I still breathe a prayer of gratitude for what you did that day. May His blessings be upon you, My Friend, Our Friend."

If you've been out here any time at all you've got at least one of these stories to tell. One of the best that I have involves Arizona. I was at "Little America" in Flagstaff with a delivery in Phoenix in the morning. There wasn't a drop of snow on the ground when about midnight I decided to head out. I had gone down 17 about 3 miles when I drove straight into a whiteout just barely getting stopped before I ran head long into the semi ahead of me which was also stopped. It was snowing at the rate of about a foot and hour and so slick you couldn't' stand up outside your truck. The snowplows were stuck at the bottom of the hill unable to get traction to get up the hill. We were there about nine hours. The driver next to me was so tired that when they finally did get us out all attempts to wake him up eluded us. We left him there, in the middle lane, fast asleep.

Many times I made the decision to stay in the Truck Stop. The one time I didn't, I left Limon going to Salt Lake and 70 went from good to FUGLY in less than 1/4 mile. I was creeping at 25-30 and watched 6 4 wheelers doing 360's on 70. I sweated the next hour to 470. Made Cheyenne J and pulled in to get breakfast. While there 80 was shutdown and SHTF! I had gotten the first spot next to the pump and I was there for 72 hours. Ended up backtracking to 25 and going down to 40 for a run to Sacramento. Got paid the extra mileage too!

Wyoming is the reason for tire chains in the winter months. Chains work like magic. Use regular black bungees not the red spider ones. And buy the cam lock chains. You are good up to 45mph with chains. But on black ice they will wear out and bust after about 90 miles. Been there done that. Good video and commentary.

I have a helper axle. After getting stuck in colo I modified the air system so I can dump the air bags on the helper axle from the cab independant of the drive axle. Overloads the drive axle technically but the spot traction becomes better than two drive axles IMO. Has got me thru black ice a couple times and has got me out of parking lots where others couldn't move. Try it! Safe travels..

Swift was not wrong for being dumb,
However , not listening to your gut feeling, and pushing it for the extra 35 - 55 miles to hit your goal ? Cost you all of this ?
You thought you should have pulled off at that truck stop just a little earlier, and you pushed on,
You are very articulate, but your actions has to catch up with your words !!!
That is the difference successful Truckers, and guys that quit.
If you ever think you are pushing it, then you are pushing it which = gambling.
That is what Vegas is built on,
All those beautiful chandeliers, carpet, paintings, and beautiful buildings, is built on miscalculations, and peoples desire to push it ,
Vegas and tow truck drivers make a fortune from people's greed of pushing the odds stacked against them
You now have earned wisdom, use it,
Great Channel, keep on keeping it real. 👍
PS, this was a great video, I learned three things , 👍👍👍
(1). Have a spare chain adjuster tool , in my magic bag.
(2). Get a few 4 or 5 of those star bungee cords.
(3). Listen to your gut, during bad weather, error on the side of safety,
it does not have to be you , as stupid, and dumb, are plentiful,
    dont join the bushell
pushing it = loss of truck, loss of license; complete loss of months and months of trying to get another truck,
fighting with insurance companies, and possible lawsuits,

Interstate is closed ahead, from exit 6 (my intended fuel stop) to exit 91 (near my intended pickup). Negative 5 degrees and my bunk heater stops working overnight! Woke up freezing! More frustrating: It stays on once I fire up a couple of times and then sit in the driver's seat. Why couldn't it have done that before the truck became a deep freezer?!? Lol.
