@@PlaviStrumf so true, we do have Celts blood. When Slav tribe crossed Carpathian mountains they found Celts over there. This piece of music is just plain brilliant. Been to a St. Patrick's Day Party for the first time this year and can just say I'm glad I tasted of the rare old mountain dew! Makes me feel Irish, though I'm definitely not. Slainté!
+Shawn Roche The first time I heard this song was on the Wiggles! I didn't realize it had verses until later, when I came across it on an Irish music station, at which point, I burst out laughing.
I wish whoever made this video knew the difference between "Instrumental" and what is really going on, Diddling. When you sing along to a tune with simple sounds or gibberish it is Diddling. This is a remnant of days when music was banned in Ireland. To overlook Diddling is to overlook the very history and struggle of Ireland.

I don't know how accurate it is but folk legend tells us that St. Patrick became a missionary to Ireland and converted all the pagans. This was early church history so I don't know for sure but it makes the most sense to me.

Actually, funny enough, I think given the context "pagan" is meant to mean Muslim. :P There wasn't really a neopagan/Celtic reconstructionist movement in Ireland in the 1880's when this song was written... And since pagan just means "one who does not adhere to Judeo-Christianity" we can pretty much assume they're referring to Muslims.
The original Celtic religion was that of the Druids and owed nothing to Islam any Celtic revival looked back but as with Padraig Pearse he wouldn’t stray too far from the tenets of Catholicism despite the Irish language being led by Protestant descendants of the United Irishmen inspired by the French Revolution As with the Balkans history is rather complicated
@@eoinfitzgibbon8729 first of all this was almost a decade ago so i dont know why you would fucking bother to reply. Second of all, read my comment again - i never said the irish were muslim, only that in the vernacular language of the time "pagan" usually meant Muslim or Mohammedan
No, its Etrim. Look at official song lyrics on album cover. I have this album at home and I know. But I agree that somewhere is some mistakes but its normal in text. Song is more important :D Bye ;)
No, you are just wrong, I'm sure he meant pagan in the traditional pagan way, and enough of this, no bloody religion discussions here, let us all enjoy the song.

Hey... This is the best band on the World... :) I love Orthodox Celts..
Serbians put out better Irish folk-tunes than us Americans. I feel shamefaced, but you guys deserve a nod. Congrats!
One of the best soundtracks for a bar fight!
This is every bit as good as the Clancy Brothers version.....well done Orthodox Celts
The reel at the end is "The Christmas Eve Reel" if anyone was still wondering.
When you find a hidden can of Mtn. Dew in the bottom of the fridge door.
I am proud they are Serbs :3
Anyone else realizing that the Wiggles sang this same song? This makes childhood awesome! :)

Well, what's a good old drinking song without a decent fight to go with it anyway!! :) :)
Even a bar fight in Edinburgh
Only if nobody understands anything. The direction we seem to be heading by the way.
Mein absolutes Lieblingslied zur Zeit^^ =)
Lovely.
@andrew7taylor On the first verse? The Dubliners sing "come gangers all from Donegal, SLIGO, and Leitrim, too. Just like these guys.

The early church in Ireland was closer to Constantinople than Rome
It changed when the Normans came
We were Orthodox Celts once and maybe again
I think there is a mix up there at the start between Sligo and Galway lol
the line is "take off your gold and free your soul"
No Take off your coat and grease your throat
I.e. sit down and share a drink with us
Rare old mountain dew? OMG it's so MLG

I wished the beginning wasn't that slow - these songs need to be sung quickly :) Outstanding performance though!
Great version of the song, lads. What's the name of the reel at the end of the song?
Hey man any chance you guys come and play Ireland, great music

@BicycleFanatic89 But they're still singing Sligo, not Galway, the lyrics are wrong.
I think he says SLIGO AND ANTRIM too. I know the lyrics but it just sounds that way
@KappoDB No, it's because they're not allowed to.

Instead of Galway in "Galway And strikes too" it's I think it's something else
+Bookgirl500 do you mean in the opening verses? Indeed, it's 'Sligo and Etrim too' (places in Ireland).
Leitrim, not Etrim, that isn't a place. They're other counties.
