Former R&AW Chief Vikram Sood Explains Significance of Narrative Building

- Vikram Sood is the former head of India's foreign intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), and an advisor to the Observer Research Foundation, an independent public policy think tank in New Delhi. Sood was an officer of the Indian Postal Service (IPoS) before he joined the intelligence organisation R&AW and later served as its spymaster from 2000 to 2003. He retired as a career intelligence officer with 31 years of service on 31 March 2003. He trained under the mentorship of B. Raman. He is the author of the book The Unending Game: A Former R&AW Chief's Insights into Espionage published in 2018, which according to Sood is not a memoir but a beginner's guide to intelligence and espionage.
Sood was an officer of the Indian Postal Service (IPoS), a part of India's civil services, and was moved into the Research and Analysis Service (RAS) cadre in 1966. In a personal tribute in Rediff, Sood says his mentor was B. Raman, one of the founders of R&AW. He became familiar with Raman in 1972, when he was assigned to understudy his role and later to take over from him until 1974. Sood was asked to take over charge from Raman once again in 1983, and on a final occasion on Raman's retirement in 1994.
Sood's appointment was different from others, as he became a R&AW chief without having served as a police officer.[ Sood had replaced S Sunderrajan who was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Delhi cadre. Sood served as the head of R&AW from 2000 to 2003 during the period when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India. He retired as a career intelligence officer with 31 years of service on 31 March 2003. As the chief of R&AW he was the designated Secretary (R) and also the director general of security.

I work in a IT company and after working with many international clients , i feel that we Indians are still suffer from white supremacy phenomenon. Mr Sood is 100% correct on this .

As our drdo chief always makes it clear that India has become really strong in area of missile technololgy, radars, sonars, electronic warfare systems, communications and guns. We can make great nuclear aubmarines. India is in league of super power now.
Russisn technology is third grade but cheap. Russian technology requies constant replacement of parts and servicing which is very expensive in the long run. Both russia and china are far behind india in space nuclear defense and bio technology. China cannot even make a decent cruise missile without copying.
Recent test of drdo hypersonic missile is a shinning example. I believe india thanks to drdo is now leading the world in hypersonic technology. The successful test of drdo hyoersonic vehicle required very powerful supercomputing capabilities to test very complex algorithms that works in hypersonic flight. Plus development of all the new complex electronics, guidance, navigation and control systems. Because electronics, guidance navigation and control system that works with super sonic missiles would fail to work in a hypersonic vehicle. All flight control laws and algorithms that work at supersonic speed which themselves are complex won't work in a hypersonic flight regime.
For a hypersonic vehicle to cruise you require a scram jet engine. In this very complex propulsion system the hypersonic wind that comes into the combustion chamber has to be burnt with the fuel at supersonic speeds. Most of the time flame gets extinguished. Now drdo has succeed in developing. It is a major breakthrough in propulsion technology, aero dynamics technology and a major breakthrough in technology of materials. As hypersonic vehicle travels the temperature reaches as high as 1500 degree Celsius on the skin of the hypersonic vehicle. To sustain such temperatures drdo had to develop materials like carbon carbon silicon carbide and other wide variety of super alloys and other things who's information is not available in public domain. In order to craft such futuristic hypersonic vehicle you need very complex machinary and very highly skilled man power.
In short india is in league of super power now. No country in the world can even sneeze in direction of India let alone harbour the thoughts of attacking us. Our genius scientists have excelled in area of space technology nuclear technololgy and defense technologies with all economic sanctions and technology denial regimes put on us by Americans. Today there are more than 1800 private companies working with drdo. With many iits have drdo certified laboratory of excellence helping brilliant indian talent to develop many advanced technologies. Drdo has already developed high powered micro wave weapons and laser weapons. Anti drone systems. One version of our laser weapon was deployed to protect trump during his india visit. Couple of days ago drdo shocked the world by sucesfully demonstrating quantum communication..

I really liked the genuineness and Truth in the eyes of the interviewer. He neither looked brazen and cocky like communist journalists nor did he look suave and shrewd speaking as if on a foreign payroll.
Vikram Sood book is nice but just cuts the tip of the iceberg only after appropriate permission.
