Mines Inspector Drops By While I'm Hard At Work On The Ocean Picture Stone Claim!

- The BC Ministry of Mines "Titles Inspector" wanted to check out my workings at the Ocean Picture Stone claim. So we arranged a day when I could let him in through the locked gates and he could do a full inspection of my claim, and also the surrounding claims. It was great talking with him and showing him what I was doing, and how I extract Ocean Picture Stone from the quarry.

Appreciate the inspector willing to be on camera to explain what he does.
Being transparent and educational really helps people be more trusting of what they do.
Pretty impressive to get him to do some hammering work as well :)
Why not? He's able to put out the regs to a WIDE audience, and it saves him time overall.
Its a smart move on his part... when the hell is his department going to get that level of awareness and exposure in a positive light ever.
Absolutely. Surely inspectors can be a pain in the ... neck. But they can also help level the playing field.
I don't know when you shot this, but I hope you feel better, Dan.
Doctor explained it was a virus that inflames the chest wall, nothing to worry about, just painful.
🙏🏼 Prayers for a speedy recovery Dan
@@Danhurdget well fast. Many blessings to you

The video was shot May 5, 2024. Dan inserted the date in the lower left corner during the first minute of the video.
Glad that Craig was willing to be filmed and discuss his role as Title Inspector.
Dan is the most charismatic miner/prospector on TH-cam. A good man indeed
i highly recommend Tassie Boys Prospecting also
You’re probably right, but it’s not as if miners are known for their charisma. It a little like being the tallest kindergartener.
Thank you Craig for participating in Dan's video. Sharing with us about your role and the importance of keeping claims clean is appreciated. And let's not forget about Dan. Those were great finds today. Beautiful rocks!
As a plumbing/heating guy for years, I have a LOT of experience cutting through stone and concrete. You can control where a stone breaks by pre-driling in appropriate places with a very long and thin bit. Say a 1/4" x 12" long. Putting a row of holes an inch apart then using your chisel tucked one corner in the hole for a while and then moving to the next. It will usually break on the line of holes..
❤
AWESOME!! Craig is such a nice guy , making sure we keep our industry alive for all of us ...Nice to see him on site !!
How to start a rock habit: first you buy a specimen or two of Ocean Picture Stone. Then you think "what if I could just change the shape a little bit". Now you're on a deep dive into cabbing and slabbing. Then it seems clear what equipment to buy. Just a little bit of budgeting, done! (Ha, hardly. Accessories for cabbing machine! Then, stand-alone slab saw. Bulk purchase mineral oil). Living space may be rearranged to accommodate. Now you need to buy a lot of chips so you can learn on them, lest you ruin the magical pieces you love. Also, you are buying pieces that you might want to slab and cab, but maybe like as a specimen. Also, what with having more small stuff than you're going to cab, buying a tumbler from the seller of your cool vintage slab saw will be a totally reasonable add-on purchase. Might necessitate a deep dive on tumbling media. What you're not expecting is that once people find out what you're doing, they will start bringing you rocks. Work out a new life balance where you have ample rock-time. This particular rock habit? No regrets :) Thanks D's Hurd!
Sounds like a real rabbit hole a guy could fall into!
You should… just kidding.
If there is anything you actually should do, it’s be proud. You’re a blessed man- a family, a job you love in a beautiful place, and a successful TH-cam channel. Love the video and it was nice to meet Craig today (Hi, Craig!).
Keep up the great work, Dan!
Dan, the positive energy from your videos is so great!
You are one of the most sincere people on TH-cam!
Seeing your kids along the journey makes it even more betterer! (Channeling my Pioneer Pauly)
I know the effort it takes to record, edit and produce videos so thanks for continuing to take us along.
I was paralyzed 4 years ago and that’s ho😢i discovered your channel, during my recovery from being septic the hospital said there was nothing that they could do & I was about to die. Not only did I survive- I’m learning to walk again. If I get mobile- I’m coming for a tour of the “ocean stone” claim.
God Bless, hope your cold goes away quickly boss.
Be safe!
I'm glad you discussed your hidden cameras and the fact that your videos are delayed to give you time to get the good stuff out before claim jumpers could steal your stones.
** you should... * ignore the ones trying to tell you what to do. i guarantee most people are here to watch your amazing, infectious attitude and the way you love everything you do - never change ! ❤
Amazing video.. always succses Sir 🇮🇩⚒️⛏️💎❤️👍
It just started
. How do you know it's amazing
@@itsmers😮😮
@nopelindoputraperkasa5869 it was a good one lol
I would love to see a video following the inspector on an inspection of someone's claim.
I love the one with the greens in it
Dan. I always feel i am with you on your life journey. Thank you for you. Love Kevin.
You should continue having fun doing what you do😊😊
Those cut sections of rocks look like paintings of land and clouds. Amazing
That's why he named it Ocean Picture Stone. It is really cool and it's his specialty
@saragruber1019 yes, bringing God's creation to present to you and I to see. Absolutely beautiful
Imagine make a blue arrowhead of some of that.
Impressed the little Honda ran that jackhammer! Such handy little gen's.
Thanks Dan and Craig!
I love the ocean picture stone! Hope that virus clears up and you get to feeling better soon!
One of these days Dan is going to say and here we are using the feather and wedges then the earth will crack in half.
Thanks for sharing. Glad the inspection went well 😎
Hey Dan, when your body is hurting it's a sign to slow down.
Stay healthy and take care of yourself first.
Gosh the feeling when you pull a piece up and the Blue just slams you in the face is so Epic!!! Nice work Dan!
Dan, you should, ha ha. Do what you think is right . Based on your experience and wisdom.❤
That stone never fails to mystify me. The color and design looks intentional, like a resin pour!
When you pulled the big chunk out at 11:30, "Ahh, ahh, hahahahah" was great. Your passion for this is inspiring, sir.
I think a "you should..." could work as a recurring segment.
You should have fun!, ha ha, thanks for showing the inner beauty of our lovely province. Stay healthy.
I hope you're okay, Dan. Your chest pain sounds like the possible beginnings of pneumonia. I hope you take care of yourself. At our ages it's really easy to get sick or to hurt ourselves. But we have a tendency to act like we're in our 20s or 30s because our brains still feel that way. I know mine does. In November 2022, I was still working fulltime and I ended up with double pneumonia. I almost died but I learned my lesson.
Dan, I really enjoy watching your channel on TH-cam, especially the gold panning and gold mining. I am a disabled Veteran and used to go to Franklin, NC to the gem mines there but never got to do any gold panning. Now my disabilities prevent me from even doing that. I live vicariously thru your experiences and enjoy watching you do what I can't. It gives me so much pleasure and I just want to thank you for making me feel I am there with you. Gradie J Weldon
Awesome to see the inspector. Fantastic video.
I'm reminded of the gold shows on TV from Alaska and how they replace the over burden when they are done at a site. Because at one site there is a huge dredge that was left behind and is just rusting away.
Dan, I that hope you are feeling better by now and it was nothing serious with the chest pains. That was some beautiful some that you pulled out in this video. Keep up the great work and videos.
Doctor said it was a virus that inflames the lining of the chest. Painful, but harmless. All better now.
I'm glad you showed this!
I thank and honor you sir. As an old fashioned Texan that believes in loving and helping other folks.
The times I’ve visited British Columbia I’ve noticed the folks I’ve met there have the same instilled respect and friendly to people who invade as tourists. I only wish that still was the mindset in Texas.
A big Texas seeyalaterbye 🤠
Don’t work yourself too hard Dan. We all have a great affection for your videos and want to see you stay safe and healthy to bring us many more videos in the future. Where is your apprentice? You need one to teach and take care of the laborious tasks to free you up to only use your knowledge and experience.
You should...be sure to get some rest.
Been watching for a while now, a year or two maybe. I love learning about the formation of stone and the behavior of gold. It's really great to see you enjoying the whole process overall.
One of the biggest eye-openers for me is the claim jumpers! Hey you do you for sales, you know your market they don't.
Thanks Dan🙋🏻♀️
I plan to get my wife a nice piece of stone for her birthday next year. We moved up north from Florida and it reminds me so much of the beach sunsets. Great work as always!
Dan you need a high pressure water cutter and a ibc Water tank a tarp to capture rain water and some more time there the cost of a lamp table even picture framed would bring a ton of Canadian dollars brother !
Take good care of yourself Dan! Hope your lungs feeling better, go get em looked at if they don't!
Doctor explained it was a virus that inflames the chest wall, nothing to worry about, just painful.
Dan , people are just trying to be helpful, but you will never hear me say YOU SHOULD, because you have been doing this longer than I have, I have never. Love the videos.
I hope you feel better. Wow, what spectacular seams. Such vibrant colors. Thanks for sharing and watch out for claim jumpers .
You definitely should… use wedges more often. I love the sound of the forming cracks and the gradually higher pitch out the hammer swings. Just love it
Sending you positive thoughts and prayers Mr Hurd. Hopefully you feel better soon
Feel better soon, Dan.
The rocks are stunning!
Beautiful stone. Most excellent.
I love your videos and I hope the "you should" people don't bother you too much
Cool! Ocean Picture Stone makes Forest Pond Stone too. Yeah!!!! Love it and y'all too.
You know your equipment better than anyone. I do believe people are really only “just trying to be helpful”. I understand how it sounds though (stinky).
Keep doing your thing Dan because I sure do enjoy your videos.
Hope you feel better quickly.
My kid loves those little chips when they sell them at a zoo or amusement park in a bag full of rocks and dirt. They get to pan them and identify the stones and minerals, really fun
Excellent stones so pretty good to see inspectors active
Hey Dan i watch all your videos I've learned alot. Fyi Dewalt just come out with a 9in concrete saw with a portable water pump/container that hooks to the saw. It's very light should be perfect. Keep up the good work.
Stellar rocks and informative content.
Dan saying he's under the weather and then carries super big rocks.
One of my favorite episodes yet!
I love your videos Dan. I learn something new with each and every vid. Take it easy on yourself. We need guys like you to inspire.
Beautiful stones. I love each time you work this clain
Thanks Dan. Nice job.
I used to stop by and talk with Captain Joe and listen to his adventure and mining stories. He had a quarry of that rock and he made clocks from it.
Gorgeous picture stone. Really stunning scapes.
i used to live in the mountains and used a honda 2000 like that to power the house. the sound of it kickin on even in your video still reminds me of how that sound ment to everyone the days work is over and its time to eat and relax and watch a movie or two before bed lol
When was about 12 years old my dad was splitting wood with metal wedges. I can still remember the sound of the maul hitting the wedge and the sound my dad made as he crumpled to the ground. It sounded like someone punched him in the stomach. He was lucky it didn't hit anything vital. His wedges were always dressed after that.
I'm mesmerized by the wedge's "pings" getting higher and higher in pitch as you hammer them
Great Video Dan
Gorgeous material! Take it easy Dan, we don’t want you hurting yourself. You are one of my favorite people on TH-cam ❤️😁
Incredible shards! Amazing detail :)
Dan you are a lucky lucky man. From what i can tell you have an amazing family and you are getting to so something you love for a living. I wish i was a younger man because you could have been the role model i needed in my youth. But luckily you have inspired me to get out into the woods and look for the riches that the creator has left out there for us to find.
"you should" just continue being yourself. That's why I watch and subscribed and it's why I keep watching and have your channel with all notifications on. It's nice to see someone on here whose Humble and yet open, yet doesn't try to BS or pat there own backs all the time. Please continue just being yourself and doing it your way.
After all these years on TH-cam the inspector should know you are all legal. Feel better sir. Thank you for sharing.👍
Just got my first bags of chips. Amazed at all the great looking specimens I got. Slabbed a bunch up and made little cabs to tumble. Could already sell what i got for 3xs what I paid before polish. Thanks Dan for all you do. Will definitely be buying more.
Dan, would you ever consider doing guided trips to a claim to mine material? It would be so cool to come do this with a small group!
I love the constant excitement!!! I listen to your videos while doing homework and it keeps me very entertained. Thanks for sharing all you do!
Wow! Amazing specimens.
I have a million things to watch, but I always make time for Dan! 👁️👍🏽🔔
Dan we love your channel!!
Keep up the great work.
Please feel better like right now!!!!!🙏🙏💐😘😘
Always enjoy , beautiful stone
That blue is almost as addictive as turqoise I feel. The stubborn rock in front is a MONSTER. That blue is absolutely Mad Lad Blue. I want a slice or three of that.
I’m sure when I say you have inspired me to keep an eye out now for great finds when it comes to stone and black sand for gold I’m not alone . You Make life fun .. observing more of this wonderful world we live in..
Best thing to watch on the Internet 💙 love Dan 🌊
Wow...i'm Blue with envy! Such amazing stuff! Awsome.
I am in awe.
Pretty interesting how the cut and polished faces of most of those rocks look like seascape paintings!
i hope you feeling better Dan
Dan you should try making ice cream out of the ocean picture stones. You never know.
Thanx Dan! Awesome stones.
I'd love to see a "So you think I should?" segment regularly! I was thinking saw about 4 mins before you talked about why you don't!
This picture stone stuff is so darn cool.
Great find Devin ! Born rock hound !
Crazy/beautiful stuff Dan!
Great video as always Dan keep doing what you can and please don't push to hard and stay safe out there and see on the next one. Looking forward to seeing the next video
Way to go Evan on the awesome find!
Thanks for all the content, Dan! Great calm and informative stuff. The results pics/vids at the end were amazing... I live in Bali, so half of my oceanfront pictures look like those! Big red or black natural jetties out into incredible blue waves... literally around the world, Mother Nature is consistent and gorgeous. Thanks again
I think the reason why small chunks sells well is because of stone tumbling. It looks good when polished.
Holy crap Dan.
YOU SHOULD DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.
That is beautiful stuff Dan !
Your BC Ocean Picture Stone is so beautiful - each scene is a precious work of art by nature 💙🧡
Thank you! Cheers!
