The patch at the time of this video didn't require the player to have trapping skill to build, but the current patch does: Level one for the stick traps and level two for the crate traps, but the wire cage variety doesn't; also, the mouse trap doesn't (found in kitchen cabinets, for example). Choose either the Hunter or Hiker trait, the Ranger role to start with the Trapper levels, or glue yourself in the life and living to build them all.

Thank you for the fun fact, Nate! I never pieced together that this would be a factor despite researching a raw diet for my ferrets and finding that they couldn't just have a bunch of chicken. You have to portion out a certain percentage of different parts and organs to give them a good raw diet.
Best way to use trapping is to place them on 2nd floor player made roof garden directly in your base (Can't be 1 tile next to fence, must not have roof overtop). Set bait for stick trap(worm) and wire cage trap(carrot), in AM, go looting until it gets dark, return home and, on average, get one or the other trap popped, if not both. rinse/wash repeat every couple of days. (Watch as your freezer loses capacity to hold all of the game animals you end up collecting).
LOL. My jaw dropped after I added 3 survivors to my base from SS. I had a fridge STOCKED full and thought I'd have enough food to last me through winter at that point (It's August at this point). 3 days later, I am down to a quarter inventory and they even drink the beer!!!

honestly, I personally prefer squirrels to rabbits, as a squirrel's weight to hunger ratio is about 1:1 to 0.7:1, which is much better than the rabbit's 1.7:1 to 2:1 ratio (ratios approximated because I haven't measured them in a while) This is important because freezer space becomes a luxury when you're playing on a singleplayer world and have no one to refuel the generator while you're out on long trips.
@@Mattsi Forage Force. You'll occasionally find dual purpose bait for both rabbits and squirrels; as well as find some dead creatures ready to eat. A dedicated forager is going to by default have several trapping starting lvls. Just remember, chip stone is the least diluted in the Nav search zone (roads, driveways, etc); the zone has very low total forage spawns, but due to how the pity system works (force-a-find in the patch notes) you'll get more chipped stone there than anywhere else. Going out foraging and coming back to your traps to find fresh protein is great.
Superb Survivors? No, i dont wanna get confused for John Connor and taken out by a terminator.....again. i fired multiple ahots with lvl 4 aiming a shotgun, solid green, and it would not die. and all he did the pushing animation and i had 3 bullets on me.

Go check out Retanaru's "Level 10 Farming without Planting Anything" It'll lead you to some farms in Muldraugh that SHOULD still be fresh and ready for you, just make sure they're seed bearing before harvesting!! On your way down there hunt around for a generator and check out as many book stores as possible for How to Use a Generator, you can use the Project Zomboid Map Project to plan out your route!

Iv made it to year 4 on max pop and never really did much trapping, always fishing/farming but this video helps im gonna try trapping now
