This review is bogus. It’s not the Prado (Diesel, Australia, SA, Europe etc) it’s the USA LC 250 Petrol Hybrid version which has the ridiculous battery on the floor of the boot. Also even the old Prado 150 had the option for wheel on tailgate or not (more fuel tank or not) but new Prado 110L tank at less than 8L/100km is plenty.
Even with 7 seats the floor is flush as you see in any proper review eg

I was excited when I first heard and saw the photos etc of the Prado 250 and was keen to purchase one, UNTIL I found out there was no diff lock on the GXL, the seat issues, the smaller fuel tank, lower ground clearance, PRICE (full Toyota Tax plus extra) and I can go on. The Fortuner, or MUX are now an option. I can put a 50 ltr auxiliary fuel tank on the Fortuner (giving it 130 ltrs) fitted for under $1,000.00 and no ad blue That is still $15,000.00 cheaper new than the 250. The Prado 250 is not worth my hard earned and not practical for Aussie touring (in my humble opinion). Appreciate your video.

Picked my GXL up exactly a week ago here in NZ. It’s the base model here and all versions (GXL/VX/VXL/Adventure) have 7 seats. The 3rd is bolted in with 8 bolts. First thing I did was rip them out. The seats themselves are heavy but they were remarkably easy to remove. Underneath there is a flimsy fabric piece that covers the battery and inverter. It also works to help direct the airflow with the fan. I made up some brackets and a platform covered in carpet to match the interior. It looks like it’s factory and incredibly sturdy but it does have a similar height to the floor in the US version, still better than the seats. I will keep the seats and replace them before every service and clear the error codes in the system as the seats have occupation sensors.

Was considering waiting for a new Prado ( had a 2016 Prado great 4wd but had high kms ) but decided on the 2.8 Troopy when I found out they were coming with an auto. 10 months, 23k kms later couldn't be happier. Just completed 15k WA half lap towing 2.5t hybrid camper, didn't miss a beat on road or off road and twin locked. This is a Toyota Australia choice. Other markets (eg EU) have 7 seats as an option on all trims. However, they don’t have the hybrid version yet, just plain diesel. Japan only has 3 trims (GX, VX, ZX), so Australia created the other trims by taking options and making them standard to create new trims. This is a general trend in Australian auto sales, the trims are created to simplify purchasing for Australian consumers, while in EU everything is an option, which is also a bit tedious but gives more flexibility.

If I wanted a mid size proper off-roader now I’d probably go a Ford Everest V6. If I wanted a full size one I’d probably get a 300 series and hate the lack of the split tailgate every day. I looked at a Kakadu in Dusty Bronze, it would be my choice of colour. I looked in the back, I thought all the stuff in there was Toyota accessory boxes, I didn't realise most of it was the folded third row seats. From the driver's seat it has a luxury FJ Cruiser look to it, flat upright windshield, big square mirrors, and lots of straight lines. I run my FJ Cruiser as a 2 seater, I removed the rear seat base so it's a flatter space for my dogs to sit in, they really didn't like getting in and out of the back seats.

Hello Matt, the 60kgs weight is for the box, you can put max 60kgs inside the box. But seriously it’s a plastic box just to level up the back seat. The second row seat cannot move forward or back either. Have to open the back door to access the door storage. If you have kids and wants to drink from the bottles stored in the door pockets. Park up and open the door to access it.

I have had a GXL on order since May 2023, and even paid a deposit. Saw the demo model on the weekend. I cannot pay $90k for a vehicle where the boot is so badly designed. The worst part is that there is a huge void between the second row seat and the third row headrests where stuff would disappear into. I am absolutely gutted that Toyota has done this. I was really looking forward to my new vehicle. Also I am in exactly the same quandary as yourself, get a Barry Basic GX or Altitude. I might now go and look at a Ford Everest.

Just picked up Everest with upgraded suspension, rims/tyres and barwork which still came in $ well under stock, unimproved new Prado. Can only speak to sand, but Everest is actually better than old Prado (which I loved) on road and off. So relieved...just can't possibly justify spending almost as much as a 300 on a vehicle which is not within a universe of a 300, let alone an old Prado. Weird logic by Toyota. My Grenadier has 17 Litre adblue tanks and in the last 12 months/30,000 kms I have used about 25 litres of adblue. Check the load capacity of the 300 series as from what I can see they don't quote a roof load rating. Toyota also don't state if their load ratings are with all fluids and a full or empty fuel tank. The 300 only has a GVM of 3250 and a GCM of 6750. So assume a towball weight of 350 kg and the vehicle weight of 2630 that only gives you 270 kg of load capacity in the entire vehicle. Unless I have done my sums wrong. If that doesn't include the 110 kg of fuel then basic you might have to leave the kids and dog at home. My Grenadier load ratings state 90% fuel tank and all other fluids. I think all manufacturers should do the same.

I agree on your thoughts on the 3rd-row seats. To me it looks like they were designed as an after-thought. No cohesion with the rest of the interior at all. It's the 48-Volt battery system sitting under it, that is taking most of the space. That's why they cannot drop it flush with the floor. I'm interested in the new Prado to replace my daily. I'm opting for the Altitude, but I will not buy sight unseen. I'm waiting until my local dealer have a demo for me to fully scrutinised and test drive. I'm looking into the new 250 Prado as my new daily (not to replace my 80 Series). IMO, despite the shambles of the 3rd-row design, I can see it selling well. Which is bugger for me, as I doubt I'd get a good deal on one. Regarding laws on 3rd-Row seats in NSW, if you remove the seatbelts you'll need to get it engineered. I’ve been researching vehicles for several months, and the Prado was initially on my list. However, I’ve decided to remove it for a few reasons, particularly the high cost of the 5-seat variant. Given the current competitive market, the price feels excessive, especially as other manufacturers are stepping up their game and offering better value.
Your comment about how “putting a sticker on the car voids the warranty” really stood out to me. While I understand it was an exaggeration, it suggests there might be some underlying issues with warranty claims. Toyota certainly has a solid reputation and is benefiting from it, but I genuinely believe they may face challenges in the coming years if they don’t start providing more value for the price.

None the less, I want a Kakadu but don’t want five seats. I will put my purchase on hold and keep my 22 Kakadu for a few years and see how this all pans out. With some luck they might bring the full hybrid here.

I didn't want to stump up the coin for the GX either with the compromises that you mentioned. I bought the 2024 double cab SR Hilux instead with the same motor for a touch over 60k with a discount negotiated (try that on a Prado). Obviously a different kind of vehicle but more money left over to mod it to my requirements - eg after market larger fuel tank, suspension etc. I would have still been happy with the Prado and I think you will be too if you go ahead with it.

  • @tonysmith26
    @tonysmith26 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The current 150 series Prado has a 150 litre tank
I’ve read the 60kg limit is just for the cover of the under floor storage bin not the whole load area
I’ve pulled the third row out of my 150 and have been told that it’s now technically unroadworthy unless it gets recertified as a 5 seater. I’ll just put the third row back when it’s time to sell it.
I think having the spare underneath is a retrograde step because (a) means the fuel tank is smaller (b) reduces ground clearance at the rear and (c) the door mounted spare meant it could be used for a garbage bag and Kaon make some fantastic accessories using the spare wheel as a mount point
Overall, I’ll be hanging on to my 150 but I did see a 250 in Bendigo that had a rear door mounted spare - maybe that’s an accessory or options as yet not being discussed. Based on the colour (blue with white roof) I’d say it was an Altitude

I own a 2024 landcruiser prado lc250 & I'm from kuwait.. it's a 2.4 single turbo engine without the hybrid stuff + base model with the rear diff locker and thankfully that means we have the use of the full trunk area + the 3rd row .. by the way I've paid 48,880$ for it (new) from our certified dealer

Add to my words that we didn't get that weird cover in the back bumper.. we got the Japanese Hitch that looks really epic

Paying so much and not getting basic features sums up Toyota. We got a RAV4 after covid. Huge wait. Dealers keep the cancelled orders and jack up the price and sell them as “used”

If only they’d released the round light version here…
    Looks 101% better

Dealership said you can order the round lights from a US wholesaler and they fit and work perfectly. Bit of a pain but the option is there…

Nice summary. The new one is functionally a downgrade on our 2016. I know a lot of people who are being put off by the 3rd row of seats. It's a real shame as was looking forwarding to ordering one. Not interested in adblue in NZ.
