  • Follow our trip from Columbus, OH to Bimini, Bahamas in our 2016 Yamaha AR240. In Part 1 we make the crossing from Ft. Lauderdale and show off our first full day in Bimini, complete with snorkeling the SS Sapona and hanging out in Honeymoon Harbor! ...More to come in Part 2!
    A special dedication to Tom Cheverie and his family. We met the night before the crossing, and I am very glad for it. Rest easy, friend.

    Nice camera angles! Man, does every Yamaha break the center window frame on the way?

    Questions about your cover. Is it the mooring cover or the 2 piece bow and stern? Do you put it on correctly in your boat well? Is it feasible to ratchet strap it tight without getting on the water?

    Beautiful video. If you dont mind me asking...
    How much gas did you use?
    What RPM/ speed where you cruising mostly at?
    I got a 2020 AR240. I live in Missouri and I am definitely planning on doing the Ft Lauderdarle-Bimini trip next year. I am trying to gather as much intel as I can.
    Thanks!

      All depends on the seas. We cruised at about 26-28 mph with 2-3 ft seas the whole way there, can’t recall the RPM bc it varies a lot. You’re basically adjusting the throttles the whole way. I got there with 12 gal of fuel left in my main tank. I also had 15 additional in cans. If I could do it again, I would’ve gone slower on the way there but we were traveling as a group. Way home was glass

    Awesome adventure man! Gonna do my research and try and talk the family into making this trip from Findlay Ohio area. Is that a 24' boat? We have a 212x, bigger boat I'm sure takes the waves better.

      @Rafael G, I’m planing to go by January. I have some friends that goes 2 to 3 times a year and they used like 32 gallons of gas but it’s all depend on how fast you go.

    • @MSJones144
      @MSJones144  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the delay, I used 38 gal running 26-28 mph in 2-3 foot seas but also carried an additional 15 gal in cans. All depends on conditions and speed. Also, if you get weeds on the impellers that’ll kill your efficiency. We stopped multiple times to clear the impellers.

    Planning my first crossing for June 2024. Biggest question right now…where to securely park the boat and trailer for a couple weeks?
