So weird how the Gold Coast didn't have a train line. I found this info:
"The Gold Coast was left without train connections for more than 30 years, until finally a new alignment from Beenleigh to Helensvale was opened in 1996, with line extensions to Nerang in 1997, Robina in 1998 and Varsity Lakes in 2009."

Idiotic Joh Bjeke Peterson ripped up the older lines that would’ve been there!

I was one of the marching bands picked from the United States to perform at the expo I was only sixteen But I will never forget the great time I had staying with a family in Sydney, then traveled to gold coast, Brisbane, and then to new Zealand . plus I got to perform with our band I will never forget.

Shelley Jacobs that's great to hear you have such good memories of your trip, it must have been a real adventure at just 16, especially back then. I drove up from Canberra for Expo and stayed with some old friends from university. It was a pretty good Expo, but it was very 80s looking back at it now.

I was in Brisbane every 2-3 weeks on business from Sydney, and never visited Expo. I regret not doing so.

We caught a bus up from Sydney, they put us in a hotel at tweed heads and bussed us up every week. That’s how hard it was to find a place to stay. Mind you it was nsw school holidays.

The Gold Coast train line should have been built in the middle 1980's when the state government should have planned the train line but not the 90's or 2000's. It would have made it a lot easier for everyone.

"So now that you're here, how do you get to Expo?" That doesn't make sense!

Turn on the "closed captions" and have a laugh at the first 20 seconds, as youtube tries to guess what they are saying. You will think your watching the wrong video. I found this out purely by mistake !!! By the way, yes, I did go to expo and it is one of the best things I have ever been to. Drove up from Sydney with a mate in my V8 ute and had a ball !!

Pretty sure that big spinny chrome thing is on the corner of Slatyer Ave and Bundall Road in front of that big blue tower 'Corporate Centre'.

A different world. No high rises in South Brisbane and the best route from GC to Brisbane was seaplane or hovercraft

As an American in 1988, I knew getting to the Expo was going to be a challenge as the light switches alone were giving me grief. "Down is "ON" and up is "OFF" said the hotel manager. After I complained a fuse must have "blown". Good thing I didn't use my international driver's license as I would have been bending metal at every circle. (round-about)
