    Nice pick, I’m compiling and picking stocks that I’d love to hold on to for a few years before retirement, do you think these stocks would do better over the years? I’d love to retire with at least $2million savings. Now you gotta rely on a pretty good diversification if you must stay green. Currently up 35% and being cautious. Still better deal than letting it sit in savings or checking earning near 0-1% interest.

    • @berwickperu7683
      @berwickperu7683 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well up at 35% in this present market is impressive. I was wondering if investing in a cumulative ETF during this next decade is a sound investment. Or is it better to invest in a distributing ETF (even considering taxes)?

    20%? But how long before it goes south?

  • @MGmirkin
    @MGmirkin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Looking at it on Seeking Alpha (cursory look), its value has been going on a consistent downward trend over the last 5 years. Starting at ~$18 now down to about $5.
    Compare that to the likes of MED (Medifast), which has been overall growing its stock price over the last 5 years. Or, at least it grew sharply, declined a bit, grew sharply again, and has declined a bit in the last year or so due to the market downturn(s)... But is overall much higher than it was just a few years ago. AND they keep continuing to grow their dividend pretty quickly. Sure, it's only currently at like 5% yield, but is that just 'cause it's capital appreciation has been so high over the last 5 years?
    Is OCCI's declining stock price and growing dividend sustainable?
    Guess I better watch the video...

    • @MGmirkin
      @MGmirkin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, it doesn't look like OCCI's dividend is growing much at all. $0.03 over the last 2 years or so? They switched from monthly dividends to quarterly dividends a couple years ago, but that didn't per se "raise" the dividend, just lumped payments together into a quarterly package. That's not really "growth" is it?
      Unlike Medifast which has been considerably raising its dividend every year for the last like 5+ years $0.32, $0.48, $0.75, $1.13, $1.42, $1.64, etc.
      If you haven't already dove into Medifast, maybe you could do that next for comparison, or whatever?

    Any chance you will do a video on what tools you use to help research stocks? I've just started investing and you show a lot of information that I have no idea how to find. Your videos have been great. I look into a few of the stocks you mention but I still see how it aligns with my goals before I decide on investing (or to invest when I have some more cash). How much time do you spend tracking stocks in your portfolio? Like, do you mostly buy and leave, or maybe sell if some get too risky, or maybe invest in already held stocks instead of new ones.
    Side note, its been a harsh month to enter the market. Everything has lost value. It's scary to see so much red, but I understand that in the long term I should end up ahead.

    Thanks. I got up caught up and chasing dividends once before and lost a bunch of money. I'm a little more cautious though. If it hits 7%, and I'm looking very closely. I think a couple good adds these days are ford, merck, bmy, ABBV, ABR, INTC, they mostly have dropped fairly significantly for little to no reason which gives good promise for rebound growth. Ford offers a lot of potential future growth with a fairly decent dividend. Also CWH and BST. And JNJ

    I work in finance with mortgage CLOs. The leverage is only an issue if the tranches themselves are structurally levered. If you’re simply buying on leverage (smartly) you should be fine. What they probably do here is purchase structurally levered securities with leverage. This is how you end up 20-50 times levered without even knowing like in the financial crisis so def stay away lol

    My opinion for young people is you need to be both .a dividend investor and a growth investor, and you can let the market determine your allocation. for that i use an FA Susan Kay Mack. For example if I just got a 1000% gain on Tesla and then pulled 85% of the money out and went into a load of more stable dividend stocks like AT & T. So I would say diversify, but also use those growth opportunities to build the capital to invest in the dividend payers (or in cash flowing real estate) Needless to say I am also 100% money market in that 401(k) and ETFs

      I invest in stable stocks, my rule: if you previously liked the stock, then you should love it at a discounted price.

    A 15% dividend is my limit. I shoot for 10% to 15%.

    I'd like to see a deep dive on the mechanics of cover called ETFs. They all seem to have high yields on paper, but the depreciation is just painful to watch. I wonder what's going on in there.
    Also, I'm very curious about your thoughts on ZIM. It's the stock with the single highest yield I've ever seen, and its financials seem fairly okay. But I get the feeling it is also a yield trap. 40% annual yield is just ridiculous, even if it's before taxes.

      Yeah me too, I'm fairly heavy in QYLD which is covered call ETF and I recently bought some shares in ZIM.
      I know the dividend probably won't stay at 40 pct but even 20 pct is super high and their share price over time seems fairly consistent also. But I'm not an analyst so would be great if this channel could talk about that.

    You would have be very active with these investments that constantly fall in value. You would buy in a fear crash and sell when up 20% or so and the dividend would be a bonus. Also, hope you don't buy and it never recovers. Not passive dividend investing.

    All my money is in a special dividend paying stock CBIO. $1.43 on $1.96 right now. The catch?
    It has a record date of 9/6. It pays out on 9/20 and a today declared ex dividend of Sept 21. How is the ex dividend date after the pay date? Beats me.

      It must be a monthly div payer

      @@markjenkins9239 Not. CBIO. It is paying its first dividend ever.
      But, I have seen this one time before with another stock, TG and they pay quarterly.
      From what I researched so far; the record date allows you to buy the shares up to that date, the pay date is when you will get the payout, BUT you have to hold the shares AFTER the ex dividend or else they can take it out of your account.
      They do it "for the purpose of not compromising the share price" whatever that means.

      The board of directors have to vote on an ex dividend date and then it will be payable through the sec trust
