该剧改编自亦舒经典同名小说。

►Synopsis:
Mai Chenghuan, who comes from an ordinary family in Shanghai, was urged by her mother, Mrs. Liu, to discuss marriage with her boyfriend Xin Jialiang. Mine and my spouse’s families are not involved in our marriage. You and your spouse become a family when you get married. We’ve nothing to do with our parents once we got married. I felt really bad when jialiang said if anyone cared for him or saw things from his point of view. I really felt bad because his family wasn’t giving in and insulting the one he loved from the bottom of his heart. He wasn’t passionate about anything but was deeply adamant on loving chenghuan. But he can’t obviously go against his family to stay with chenghuan. He was forced to let her go even though he loved her so so much. Love from his side was clear and also chenghuan’s. It’s just that they were not meant to be.

Thank goodness that I don’t have a meddling mother like this. !! She’s a troublemaker and caused so much agony. She’s money hungry and looking for wealth & status instead of her daughter’s happiness and trust her daughter that she will make the right decisions. I’m glad you understand that you are entitled to your opinion just like I am entitled to mine. You may find this mother’s behavior acceptable. But I do not. This mother is too dominating and not let her daughter make her own choices and live the life she wants. My mom is not like that at all. She taught us to always do the right thing; to be honest, truthful, not to cheat others or take advantage of others for self gain. Money or wealth is not everything. Happiness is more important. As adults, she trust us to make the right decisions knowing that we will have to live with whatever decisions we made. She can guide us, but she can’t live our lives for us. And YES, if my mother is like this mother, I would move out the day I became 18 years old. It doesn’t mean that I’ll love her less, it just mean that she needs to let go and trust me that I can make the right choices.

That breakup scene stabbed right through my heart, as if I was reliving it again. I was also 29 when I broke up with my ex bf and for almost the same reasons (not the family part) and instead of it being 3 years, it was 7 years. So I understand how she feels 100%. It was exact thing with him being avoidant when there are problems and never resolving and acting like it never happened, or just apologizing without meaning/understanding it just to move on. But the behavior never changed. It made me feel exactly like her: I was too tired to keep carrying the entire relationship on my back and by myself. It really is so hard to let go of a relationship where there wasn't a lack of love, and when you both still love each other but are not good for one another...especially because they are not a bad person/didnt wrong me. I so wish he was, then it would be so much easier for me to get over it. And same as here, it's so scary starting over again when my youth has gone away with him, my whole life. Especially as a woman, there's just so much pressure from society that constantly reminds you that it is too late for you now, making a breakup much harder.
