In 2019 a woman did pass the SOAS (SEAL Officer Assessment and Selection program) but that is only a 2 week course. She ultimately wasn't selected to undergo SEAL training.

I met a Master Chief Seal once and had the honor of learning how to handle and shoot the Government 45ACP from him and his team. This man was very experienced and just an incredible person. The way he described his team was interesting, he said "They're just like you, but more highly motivated". In reality, that's just the tip of the iceberg... These guys are super intelligent, super motivated, super dedicated and, basically, super human. My hat is off to them and the jobs they do. True American Heroes, each one.

The training not only forces you to find that inner strength and motivation, but also tests your ability to work as part of a team. Being able to keep each other going, no matter what, is a major part of successfully completing training.

As teir 2 units, there aren't all that many that would try and succeed. Much less go on to a teir 1 unit. Around 90% of applicants for the SEALs are turned down and the ones who do make it into training, only about half of them will graduate. Approximately a 6% success rate. But this can also roughly be said of many of the teir 2 units, if not exact, it's decently close. Navy SWCC 70-80%, Air Force Pararescue at over 80%, Air Force Combat Controllers at about 90%, Army Ranger School at 50-75%, Marine Raiders at roughly 80% and Force Recon at around 50% (though this is just the last 6 years or so and they may have different requirements to even try out.)

That outlines regular SEAL training. Later on, you may get the opportunity to try for SEAL team 6 / DevGru (development group). That is the elite of the SEAL community, and you “start over” within that community to prove yourself.
Good channel to watch is Mike Ritland’s “Mike Drop”. He’s a former SEAL and interviews people from the special ops community. See his interview with Terry Houin, who was involved in the Captain Phillips rescue, among others.

Courtney, in 2015 ,the congress open all combats billets ,to female recruites, the problem is that very few has passed the courses, for instance no woman has passed the Marina Corps infantry's Officer course , and the us army watered down the Ranger course so that three women could pass ,and only one woman so far has passed the US Special Forces course .

  • @jeffdetmer4681

Hi Courtney. The allowing of women to try out is fairly new. Thus far no woman has even passed the program required to then be accepted into SEAL training. Many of the other military groups have different requirements for women, which I don't understand. You want the same job, meet the same requirements. Ya know? Anyhow I have had the good fortune to know many of those guys over the years. My older brother was a Seal for many of the 30 years he served in the Navy. He did 2 combat tours in Viet Nam as a Seal back in the day. Back then there were only 2 Seal Teams numbered One and Two. One on the west coast and Two on the East coast. Total # of SEAL personnel back then was 200 I believe. The other guys were assigned to UDT Teams. (Underwater Demolition teams) I think all of those may have been done away with at this point and everyone who passes training is assigned to a SEAL Team. Great job as always Courtney. Stay safe and well.

That's a huge training program, much longer than that for the British special forces which is 6 months. But many of the British applicants are members of the Royal Marines or the Parachute Regiment so they already have some of the required skills before they apply. About 15% make it through the application process. Women can apply but if any have made it through.......is a closely guarded secret. Just as a rule of thumb, anyone claiming to be a member or former member of a special forces unit.....probably isn't!

As for me could I survive Seal Training? I do not know. I have done a lot of stuff and was in the Army, turned down the chance to even be offered West Point and turned down OCS. Mostly cause it was not what I wanted. When I went in I was running 9:10 in the two mile and in AIT they timed me several times in under ten min. for two miles in combat boots, the black ones that we had to polish every day. And I had been to state in five sports at least once and nationals. And was pretty fit. Tho a lot go in pretty fit. I think the thing for me is I am not interested. One of the reasons I turned down OCS was in the regs. it says they Can take into consideration ur training. Well I had just come out of getting my degree in Forestry and could read a USGS map, use a compass in the field and use it to plot a course on a map, I could survey land using that kind of equipment, Read Arial Photos and I had to live without elec. growing up for four years cause my mom wanted to live a certain way so I know how to do things a lot do not. I thought they might make me and infantry officer which I didn't want. I have been told they likely would have tried to put me into Ranger School as an officer. Passing the PT tests is not a problem its just if I want it or not.

To pass any training in the military, you just have to want it. That's it. You have to really want it. You want to pass RASP? Then really want to be a Ranger. You want to pass SF? Then really want to be a green beret. Especially SF, which I'm telling you right now, is the EASIEST special training in the military.
This applies to SEALs. Everyone can physically pass any military training by the time they get their. Especially a course like BUDs which is developmental and not attritional like a RASP or Ranger School. By the time you finish up basic and the extra schools to get to BUDs, physically you are 100% ready.
Don't listen to the attrition rate. Every single school talks about this. Think of this, the average attrition rate of basic training is 15% across all services. 15% of people couldn't make their bed, tend their uniform, say "yes, sgt", do the low standard PT test, or they just straight up quit. And at basic you get 3 tries before they boot you. At these special schools 2/3 the people quit for the same small reasons. They go to Ranger School and find out they can't swim, or they quit after 2 days when they haven't slept or ate, guys go to SEALs and they quit when they find out the water is chilly.
Don't buy into the hype of these schools, and if you're a prospective candidate for special units or training, know that you are 100% ready, barring injury or some form of direct inability to pass. Unless you're going to Delta tryouts, because that training will whip anyone that goes through.

The official sealswcc website states that women are indeed allowed to try and earn a seal challenge contract. The video was wrong about that. I believe the furthest a female has gotten through the pipeline is in BO, which is before BUDS. I read that she quit and decided to pick the job she had over seal, so I guess she didn’t even want to be a seal to begin with, maybe just wanted the challenge.

Tough ppl can be everywhere, its not a privilege for the army. For example, you can be living in abusive environment as a kid in a dysfunctional family, survive and later on succeed in life. Those ppl are even tougher for me because it is children taking the responsibility of their own lives and maybe for other ppl too. Necessities of life create toughness not choices, though, it is always a choice what you do with it.

There are multiple areas in this video that are inaccurate, but the one that I think is the worst is during hell week. You only get 4 hours of sleep the whole 5 nights, not 4 hours each night. But yeah, even if everything in this video was true, I still would fail so hard.
