Got to see John at Indiana Comic Con recently. Very, very sweet man. He takes the time for everyone, he shows he cares. Moreover, his intelligence and knowledge for the human condition just shines through! He truly amazed me. Upon getting his autograph, he asked me what my occupation was... I told him my embarrassing truth in that I'm a cart pusher at a grocery store, but he just told me that it was an honest living and that he found me an interesting man. What an honor to be called such from what I find to be an amazing and inspiring man!
As did I in Knox TN. He was such an outstanding and wonderful person. He stayed to make sure he got to meet everyone. He really interacted with his fans. Truly a treasure!! If you ever get a chance to meet him I highly recommend it!!
I love how open John Rhys-Davies is. He talks with his heart open, he places pearls of wisdom down, he is a phenomenal storyteller. I can listen to him talk for hours upon hours. I have, when listening to TLOTR boxset commentary and behind the scenes countless times. What a human, what a gentleman... what an enlightening interview. I adore him. 💖

One small moment of wonderful humanity by Rhy there. When Michael spoke about the loss of his sister, you could see Rhy react in pure sympathy, as if to say sorry for that loss too. Quite lovely.
My dad died recently, about a month after his cancer diagnosis. It isn't the same as John's loss of his son, but it is my loss. I remember that I was, by happenstance, the first of my brothers to be told, and the first thing my dad did was apologize to me. He wanted to do more, he wanted to have been better, but the truth is that he couldn't have been any better a father without transcending humanity. I know because everything I learned from him that is part of me is good. I have some time ago begun to practice something like what John describes at about 5:11, but only really codified it with Dad's death: living sincerely. Especially when greeting and speaking to and saying goodbye to anyone, mean that you love them and let them know. Closure isn't the opportunity to say one more thing, or have the perfect line. Closure is part of how you live. Making sure the people in your life know that they are loved, know that they are important, that they matter, to the best of your ability. Coincidentally, my dad's first name is John, too.
@@DarkKnight34 I think the third season on Fox was the worst one. The 2 seasons on SyFy were better than that one but still not a patch on seasons 1 and 2.
Very eloquently put. The loss of a child is indescribable and only parents that have gone through this pain can understand the true emotion that you feel.
The more I hear John speak the more I keep thinking how I’d pick him as one of the 3 people to have dinner with if given a choice of anyone throughout history 🤩
The loss of a child is the worst and most unfair for parents 😢 i’ve à lot of admiration for his courage and his wisdom in the face of death 🙏♥️ The universe is vast and we know nothing, it’s true, but i believe in the survival of the soul 💘 John is a wonderful actor and person, just like you Michael !! This podcast is a gem !!👌💎💙💙♥️
Carrie Fisher was right when she said that celebrity is just obscurity biding its time. John Rhys-Davies at this age reminds me so much visually of my dad, and he's got the right attitude for when the curtain closes over us. It's a mystery we'll only know for sure when we cross that threshold.
It's not the inadequacy, the irrelevancy, of great artists which is to blame for their obscurity. It is the wilful ignorance of the younger generations, which refuses to grant significance to anyone or anything which extends beyond roughly five years ago. When I was a child, I knew all about the significant events & persons of my parents' generation & of my significantly elder sister's. I love to read even ancient history. I want to KNOW things. The youth of today don't. Period. Sad. 😢
He has a greatness to him. A wisdom and an enormous kindness. Indiana Jones would embark on much more mundane quests without the foreboding warnings of Sallah. He made that world much larger and dangerous. And he makes ours much more interesting.

just had my sister lose her only daughter to complications surrounding cancer.. i have basically no idea how i should act.. im a bit angry because i got yelled at for pointing out that this 27 year old woman should not behave like she did having no imune system at all.. and i get sad.. because she was just 27.. and left a 3 yearold kid and a husband behind
Thats hard. I can relate, but there IS complete hope in Jesus Christ. I found this one out after losing my sister at 26 to a sudden gran mal seizure. You didn't actually lose them❤
Would have loved to have heard the stories about having guns pointed at him. Great actor and seems to be a good man. Wish I could thank him for all the hours of great entertainment he brought to my life.
"We know nothing" great closing line. The most intelligent people understand how little we actually know. It's the most idiotic people that think they know the most and have the answer to everything.

Robin Williams must have been a tortured soul but he could have been anything he wanted to be. His later years portraying villains was better than his comedy. He had more talent than we will ever know or see. His best performances were ahead of him but something made him give up on life.
4:22 How do you go on? You don't. A part of you dies with that child, and you can never recover it. You go on in the same way an amputee goes on without limbs: changed, handicapped, and challenged to find a new perspective.
To see your Child Again ! John Rhys-Davies just ask Jesus to come to you and show you who he is and prove to you he is the son of God. What do you have to lose?
If you aren't under the blood of Christ Jesus Death SHOULD terrify you. Stop kidding yourselves. The fear is there bc your spirit knows you aren't saved.
Jesus told his disciples that some of them would live to see his return and Judgment Day. Didn't happen. 2,000 years later, he's still MIA. So why should I be afraid?
2:02 So, your son was only five days old when he died, and you think that compares to the pain of someone like my wife and I will knowingly bear when our 18 year old passes away? No, sir - you did not have time to get attached to that child. What you lost was a temporary sense of new parenthood and purpose, but you did not lose a human being to which you grew intrinsically attached, came to know, loved with all your heart, and HAD to let go after much time for all time.
@Novastar.SaberCombat I'm not mocking. He's talking about knowing fully every parents' pain who has lost a child. I am saying he only knows the loss of a potential child. It takes time to build the foundation for real loss.
@RN-wi8fi That's because you don't get it; otherwise, you would know better than to make the blatant mistake of saying all loss & pain is generic. And that is what what you said, I merely paraphrased it.
Very much sorry for your loss, and I agree the bonds of time bear all the weight in times of such sorrow. Aside, 22 and 27 prominently mentioned by an actor who very much enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in the industry conjures uncomfortable thoughts in my mind but maybe I just know too much. Hate it

also a very strong man in his day with a sweet temperment
I met him at that same con and he just was the best. I was honored to meet him
Got to meet him at ICC as well. A true gentleman, one of the highlights of the weekend. So engaging with every single person.

He has a great voice and a way with words.
My partner meet John Rhys-Davies in New Zealand, he said he was such an amazing man, and very funny.
I adore this man, just pulling bloody Seneca out of thin air when ruminating on death and the end. What a guy.
One small moment of wonderful humanity by Rhy there. When Michael spoke about the loss of his sister, you could see Rhy react in pure sympathy, as if to say sorry for that loss too. Quite lovely.
I could listen to him talk all day every day!!!
The depth of this man. John thank you for all you’ve done in your life. You have been an inspiration.

John is amazing. He's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember through all his amazing roles.
Sliders is one of my favorite shows ever this man made that show incredible really amazing actor
I love sliders. While it was in fox anyways. Lost it went it went to soft?
Other than Indiana Jones of course his role in sliders stuck out to me the most love his work
@@DarkKnight34 I think the third season on Fox was the worst one. The 2 seasons on SyFy were better than that one but still not a patch on seasons 1 and 2.

What a very intelligent, open- minded, open- hearted, kind- hearted, talented, considerate, classy, good man.
Have been such a big fan of his for most of my life ..my favourite character on Sliders ,a show which never recovered after he left ....
Incredibly moving. Thank you for presenting this with so much dignity and grace.
The more I hear John speak the more I keep thinking how I’d pick him as one of the 3 people to have dinner with if given a choice of anyone throughout history 🤩
It's a group that you don't want to be part of. Seriously, every time I hear someone else lost a child, it brings back my pain.
Same
Same. And that pain is always just under the surface.
What touching honesty. Love John.

Life isn't fair you just have to keep going and move on.
What a voice....!!,.....haven't seen John since (Indiana jones-3).....wasn't sure he was still alive, ....glad he is....!!
"The hammer will fall" is an incredible line.
His thought process as the plane was going down in Zimbabwe just had me losing it 😂
My mum lost my brother when he was only 35, and my sister a few years later. No parent should go through that.
Carrie Fisher was right when she said that celebrity is just obscurity biding its time. John Rhys-Davies at this age reminds me so much visually of my dad, and he's got the right attitude for when the curtain closes over us. It's a mystery we'll only know for sure when we cross that threshold.
I can't get enough of Professor Arturo talking about the universe. It was a tragedy when he was lost...or was he?
Best celebrity to meet at a convention. He put so much care into it and made the picture I got with him a lot of fun.
♥ So enlightening and beautiful. A hard to tell but very important, having been there myself, its heart breaking. But Johns words are so true.

So incredibly sorry for your loss, John! Your fans all love you so much!
5:14 He's EIGHTY years old? Man, talk about aging like wine.
This lovely man and Miriam Margolyes, comes to mind, they're only a few old school actors with endless charisma and screen appeal. Phenomenal.
My mother lost my sister. I don't think she ever got over that.

This was beautiful....thank you for this. I struggle with death.
Save it for life, death is a breeze.
I agree with John not to fear death as the soul does not die (we are eternal beings) it just goes home to begin another adventure🙂

Never thought I'd see Lex Luthor and the Kingpin discussing life and philosophy.
The smartest people know just how little we do know.
I like this man.

sometimes it's best not to speak reality, especially during deep grief. It doesnt actually help. Just be with your sister at this terrible time.
Thats hard. I can relate, but there IS complete hope in Jesus Christ. I found this one out after losing my sister at 26 to a sudden gran mal seizure. You didn't actually lose them❤
We all get forgotten the moment we're gone.

I would love to know how to get hold of him for an autographed photo.
I know the pain of loosing a child and a wife. Im 38 and that happened 7 years ago. So i guess im already at where john is now. Cool.cool.cool.
where can i watch the entire interview?

Robin Williams must have been a tortured soul but he could have been anything he wanted to be. His later years portraying villains was better than his comedy. He had more talent than we will ever know or see. His best performances were ahead of him but something made him give up on life.
He had Parkinson's and a form of dementia.
Why is there a weird guy there in a mask?
4:22 How do you go on? You don't. A part of you dies with that child, and you can never recover it. You go on in the same way an amputee goes on without limbs: changed, handicapped, and challenged to find a new perspective.
Get rid of the masked Gimp hiding on the right side. Totally unnecessary and distracting.
jesus " I am the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me , even if he dies, will live."
A group of American wanna-bes -- however the size -- who doesn't know who Laurence Olivier was, is not a happy commentary.
My child was murdered by police and their buddies. I am 100% dead inside and always will be.
IMHO..........From the time we come from life, we exist, then return to life. You cannot kill life. As he said...........we know nothing.

Trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Read the Bible and pray daily. Then u don't need to fear death.
Another actor lost a family member to death. Is that the price they pay to become famous?
he's lost the plot
Who’s the loser on the iPad with a mask?

Do you have evidence to support your rambling nonsense?
