YESS, YESS, YESS!! What an amazing content, and so in depth! Thank you for taking the time and effort for making such a precise how-to video! Greetings from Amsterdam!
I always enjoy watching these sorts of guides, even though I don't always learn something from them. In this case it's all familiar to me and I knew that beforehand but it's still very fun to see how the magic is done.
For crowd replication 9:40 might work but correct way to do it is either shoot the person IN LOCATION in front of green/blue screen OR shoot them anywhere in front of green/blue screen and track camera in post to replicate it and create a 3D environment and the matching camera in 3D.
This was actually very useful information. Thanks! Of course, in many cases all or most of the crowd are entirely computer generated (Lord of the Rings army battle scenes, for example)
i need a scared crowd running away.i don't know how I'm going to get enough poeple to pull that off. Last time it took me months just to get 12 people.
You can do this with only yourself. You would only need different types of clothes and hair styles. Apply it on your project as it is showed in this video.
2:28 "Is literally a piece of cake". . . . No it's not. . . If it were LITERALLY a piece of cake, then there would be a piece of cake there, and not a movie clip. I don't think you understand what 'literally' means.
Some literary giants may beg to differ: ‘Lift him out,’ said Squeers, after he had *literally* feasted his eyes in silence upon the culprit. (Charles Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby) *Literally,* I was (what he often called me) the apple of his eye. (Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre) "Literally" has been used in this sense for centuries. stancarey.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/literally-centuries-of-non-literal-literally/
They didn't do any green screen. For the movie, MoneyBall. There were 200 of us extras. They didn't pay us anything, but gave us free lunch. Yeah we had to move a lot. I joked, Moving.... instead of movie.
Are there specialists you can hire to facilitate the use of the motion control camera/ replicating the actors etc? Or is the director supposed to know how to do all this from beginning to end?
Hi, it's very rare that a director or even DP would do motion control themselves. Even the simplest motion control rig would come with one or two operators who program the move for you. The director and DP would merely decide what shot they want, but the rest is done by the motion control operators. This is very fancy equipment, and it would be unheard of for any director any level to take control of it.
You're confusing an articulate matte with a garbage matte. A garbage matte is where you make a huge block around everything beyond your green screen by hand... it takes seconds. The green screen mattes the details around your subject - and everything in the shot beyond the greened area (lights, flags, c-stands, etc...) is the "garbage" you're blocking out with the garbage matte. It used to be a separate element in the photochemical blue screen days.
There's no difference, it's just a matte. Whether it's a garbage matte is only about what you use it for. From Flame/Inferno where we grew up, it was called a garbage matte. But a matte is a matte. It's a spline with control points and feather. This is not an important detail.
Nice work, but I would rather do 2.5D layering in a compositor program like After Effects or Nuke, instead of a full 3D app as it gives far better control over things like Z-Depth and camera depth of field.
The duplication method fails when she's waving ... periodically most of the instances appear to be in sync. Not sure what algorithm is being used to determine the start offset but it isn't random enough.
The information was very interesting but HOLY HELL, don't pause THAT much. It's overkill, annoying, and distracting. Pause is good, too much is horrible.
You have a ton of clamps on top of the green screen, but none on the sides. A clamp on each side of the green screen would've gone a long way in removing wrinkles. Lazy thinking.
I think there are softwares that do that for you. You shouldn t need several takes if so it will cost you less to just hire a real crowd. Aaah dumb thinking.
Most people can't afford software costing thousands of dollars or have Peter Jackson's budget. But the main point is that the video is showing how replication is done with real 'cameras' and actual 'actors'. And it does very good job.
There's no advantage to be gained by stretching the video. It just makes a bigger file size. The voiceover was done at a proper speed. It allows the viewer to take time and see the details and understand what's going on. Don't rush through everything.
SnakeKoRn the video was taken from a website so it's not made for TH-cam plus it is from 2014 and I don't think that 10 minute stretch was a thing also it is said slowly so you understand it
How does her looks, or whether she is in need of a toilet in ANY way distract from the lessons taught in this video? She could be made of cheese, covered in tiny uncles, and it would still be completely irrelevant to what this video is trying to convey.
Creativity is more important than CGI shit. I hate CGI and computers get involved with art. it's not natural and right. if Art doesn't get involved with computers so computers should respect this too. Cinema is an art. it should stick with only people. even digital cameras are not welcome. Because if Art takes progress it becomes something new. it's not cinema anymore. if you start painting pictures on walls it's not a classic paintin art anymore. it becomes graffiti. but Whether graffiti is a kind of art or not is always arguable. because it's a new thing now other than art. I don't respect CGI in movies. Maybe This is Why Hollywood call it movie and not cinema. Who knows? :)
why was this recommended? I don't do film or anything similar
💯
dosent sound like a question for the video creator...
you look green
i think to know what can be done in our days with cgi is important knowledge to be able to discern truth from false informations.
ok shut up chrismc you fucking gungler
This is an amazing video, all the concepts and common problems are dealt with in a genius yet simple manner
YESS, YESS, YESS!! What an amazing content, and so in depth! Thank you for taking the time and effort for making such a precise how-to video! Greetings from Amsterdam!
Now I feel like a robot explained old graphics to me.
CNN perfected this technique.
Next goes to BBC then Al Jazeera.
So did the Clinton campaign 😂
@@withlovefrom_TX Badass comment.
I guess I'm late to the game 5 years later. Is this a crowd size thing? What did CNN do?
Very well explained. Thank you.

Amazing video!
only cake is literally cake

Awesome Stuff
Cool video
great stuff, very valuable to learn the principles
i need a scared crowd running away.i don't know how I'm going to get enough poeple to pull that off. Last time it took me months just to get 12 people.
Green screen, use the technique he just showed here
Post an ad for extras on Craigslist?
post on backstage. offer pay. you'll get your people.
You can do this with only yourself. You would only need different types of clothes and hair styles. Apply it on your project as it is showed in this video.
wow so that's what those stickers are in behind the scenes. I always wondered, Thanks!
Good stuff

RichardR1950 If it was *litrelly* a piece of cake, what type of cake would be your preference?
Personally, I prefer either Chocolat, or Vanilla Sky.
Glory I can get on board with that
Some literary giants may beg to differ:
‘Lift him out,’ said Squeers, after he had *literally* feasted his eyes in silence upon the culprit. (Charles Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby)

stancarey.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/literally-centuries-of-non-literal-literally/
That's true for all Americans. They use 'literally' for emphasis rather than what it is supposed to be used for.
*very helpful tutorial big like really helped me thanks*
Very informative thank you
I don't know if it's just me but It's really funny for me
So to get a large crowd from a small group you lock the camera and move the screen around?
Which software can I use to practice these?
Cool tutorial, thanks!
Great tutorial! Thanks
2:28
I'd be suprised if the composite was LITTERALLY a piece of cake. yum.
I just called local CBS and called them out on their green screen in porta Rico. CALL THEM EVERY TIME YOU SEE IT
this is pretty good. a word of advice, don't pause so long between statements. it got on my nerves.
It’s not ‘literally’ a piece of cake, if it was...it would be an actual piece of cake.
What about other people who were ok with the pauses? do their opinions not count?
Pretty annoying indeed
Otacon? Can I hire you for voice work?
Ha ha ha! "It's just like one of my Japanese animes!"
What name programm ???
The composite is literally a piece of cake? I think not.
They didn't do any green screen. For the movie, MoneyBall. There were 200 of us extras. They didn't pay us anything, but gave us free lunch. Yeah we had to move a lot. I joked, Moving.... instead of movie.

@@HollywoodCameraWork Ahhh..Awesome. Thanks much for the valuable info!
awesome!
4:20 is awesome
nice, what is the software you are using
In this example they were using maya for the 3d stuff. You can use nuke to composite it toghether
Didn't Weta Workshops already do this with LOTR?
How do you create depth with chroma key?
name this a program
0:43 choose your fighter
what if everyone talked
like this in real life
Which software is this
"literally a piece of cake"

Rock in hand bro? No? U can use my rock.
Is that *David Boze* narrating this video?
thanxxx
Good tutorial

This is the same technique how NASA is doing their "job"...
Did he called her "garbage"?
nice sir
Like the matrix
I always do things the real kosher way
NonStop Fails haha, it was the first time I heard kosher being used in that context.
is this what they did to make it look like more than 20 people showed up for the HRC campaign speeches..?
This worked well in Charlottesville.
2:27 "Then the composite is literally a piece of cake" I don't see any cakes there...
I LOVE U FOR BEING BUILT TO TUTORIAL U ARE GOING TO HELP IN GODS WILL.
good
i wonder what film makers used back than..
Trippy.
Epic
David Boze?
Indeed!
nice
all this time. i thought movie paid many actors to play. when this was possible.
why the hell am I watching this
Change tops on actors will look better
That's cool as
Why is this on my recommended...?
The duplication method fails when she's waving ... periodically most of the instances appear to be in sync. Not sure what algorithm is being used to determine the start offset but it isn't random enough.
The edges are too sharp, and the characters look a bit green-ish...
The information was very interesting but HOLY HELL, don't pause THAT much. It's overkill, annoying, and distracting. Pause is good, too much is horrible.

*rally
last one was written in Bangla by mistake
ned flanders Trumptards rally
don't cry now
My thoughts exactly Ned! 😂
this is the cheap way, they dont use this style anymore they use programs like massive created for peter jackson.
Most people can't afford software costing thousands of dollars or have Peter Jackson's budget. But the main point is that the video is showing how replication is done with real 'cameras' and actual 'actors'. And it does very good job.
Game of thrones still uses this technique!
2018: US Border Invasion
So creepy... so many copies of the same girl, lol
Nice if u had more than 3 peope...
the girl is really really cute ;) reminds me of my ex girlfriend
because she wasn't actually there?
lol
Fake news here we go...
Cool video, but many people look the same.
That looks fucking terrible 🤣🤣
So that's how Trump gets his crowds together
.
*Trump
It works because all the asians look same
Hájas Állat
😶😶😶😶😶😶
lol
CNN - HAHAHA
Dude, you're only trying to stretch the video by talking super slow
There's no advantage to be gained by stretching the video. It just makes a bigger file size. The voiceover was done at a proper speed. It allows the viewer to take time and see the details and understand what's going on. Don't rush through everything.
Actually, there is. In order to be allowed to place ads in your video, you need 4.000 viewed hours of your audience, in the last 12 months.
But, once you've reached that level, there's no further advantage. And even so, the voiceover timing is just right.
SnakeKoRn but there's no ads
SnakeKoRn the video was taken from a website so it's not made for TH-cam plus it is from 2014 and I don't think that 10 minute stretch was a thing also it is said slowly so you understand it
sentence ... long pause... sentence ... long pause ... how annoying.
She looks desperate to use the toilet. Please use someone less tense in your next tutorial. TY
How does her looks, or whether she is in need of a toilet in ANY way distract from the lessons taught in this video? She could be made of cheese, covered in tiny uncles, and it would still be completely irrelevant to what this video is trying to convey.
So your basically explaining how Hillary Clinton got her rally's so full?
