      @@peach5438 lol not really, if you’re exiled by the king you don’t return (no matter the occasion) He’s done so like four times at this point. It does show he really does do what he wants and he isn’t afraid of consequences because he knows Viserys is aware that he can go all the way and not give a sht, Viserys is weak because he can’t really do much against it. If he retaliated then daemon blows it all to hell and there’s war, and Viserys isn’t ready/can’t handle it. Daemon has the upper hand in most things he does, and yes he has courage since its literally always against the set rules lol

      And targaryens can only bond with one dragon in their lives so once that dragon died he physically can't ride another dragon ever again, unfortunately. So it's not that he just doesn't like dragons and is choosing to not ride... he literally can't bond with one to ride another dragon. But he does seem to have slight distain towards dragons as he did say it was a mistake for humans to have domesticated them in previous episodes.

    The ending montage was my favorite scene of the series so far. Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the flickering lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with an equally gloomy soundtrack & it’s A1! The slightly overlooked heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode imo, other than Viserys dropping. Otto is right. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment. The wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. *Rhaenyra and Laenor were being told their wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting “married”.*

  • @pitlordmike6127
    @pitlordmike6127 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Since Alicent married into house Targaryen, she's expected to wear the colors of her husbands house, red and black. But instead wore the colors of her family.

  • @vertigoneaway
    @vertigoneaway 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Alicent has been a staunch ally to Rhaenyra up until now. She was raised to believe that duty is important. This is why she obeyed her father when he pimped her out to endear herself to the king -- the show displays she's not happy about it (constantly picking at her fingers until they bleed, only responding with "if you wish it" when her father asks her if she will see the king). Westorsi society does not allow noblewomen agency in marriage -- between Otto pressuring her and the king choosing her, Alicent effectively had no option to refuse the marriage.
    Despite all this, the only time she rebelled against her father was in fully supporting Rhaenyra. Even when Rhaenyra was angry with her and even after Aegon was born, Alicent still supported Rhaenyra's being named heir to any who questioned it (she told Viserys naming Rhaenyra was a good thing when he expressed doubt, Alicent defended Rhaenyra when Otto pressured her about Aegon taking the thrown, and she did not try to convince Viserys to change the succession even when her father explicitly told her to do so). When Rhaenyra found herself in the rare position of being able to select her own husband, Alicent helped in setting up the tour and organizing suitors for Rhaenyra to choose from. When both the King and her own father believed Rhaenyra had "sullied" herself, Alicent (while upset) still went to Rhaenyra first to get the truth. When Rhaenyra swore upon her mother's memory to lie by omission about being a virgin, Alicent believed her and came to her defense when Viserys doubted Rhaenyra. In this episode, she came to Rhaenyra's defense again when saying goodbye to her father. The same way she believed Rhaenyra was 100% truthful about being a virgin, Alicent also believed Rhaenyra would never endanger her own children.
    All this is to say that I don't think it's jealousy that's driving Alicent in this episode. When Alicent learned that Rhaenyra lied to her upon something as sacred as her own dead mother's memory, she felt betrayed and realized that she can no longer trust Rhaenyra. As far as Alicent knows, her father was dismissed as Hand because he reported rumors that questioned Rhaenyra's virtue -- which adds to the betrayal. She realized that her father was right: Rhaenyra lied and cannot be trusted. She also realizes that she can't trust her own children to be safe if Rhaenyra is made queen. I believe it's this sense of betrayal and fear for her children that now drives Alicent.

    27:16 Eh, it's not because Alicent is jealous that Rhaenyra was able to bed a handsome young knight. It's because she believes that one of the reasons why her father was fired as the hand is because she told the king that she believes Rhaenyra is still a virgin, but it turns out that Rhaenyra just straight up lied to her.

      I believe your right but I do also believe she is jealous. The contrast the show did in ep 4 with her bedding the king to Rhaenyra’s night out with Daemon and Criston was done purposely.
      Rhaenyra has all the freedom in the world to disobey her father. Alicent must always fall in line to hers. Yes she did trust Rhaenyra and Rhaenyra lied to her, but I also think it’s a bit of

    • @Ries41794
      @Ries41794 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iconoclast6555 yes I think on the surface that is what’s fueling this new inner rage from her, however when you start peeling back the layers I think it’s a mixture of her own insecurities and jealousy.
      Her father was scheming way before Alicent had children with the king. So him using the whole “Rhaenyra is going to kill your kids” is ridiculous. Why put your daughter in this position in the first place then? He underestimated Rhaenyra’s strength and fathers love/loyalty to her. Alicent knows this. She knows who her father is.
      So why is Alicent truly mad then? Because her friend lied to her? Well Alicent lied to Rhaenyra as well, and why does Alicent care so much who Rhaenyra is sleeping with?
      Alicent is miserable and unhappy with herself (always being meek and dutiful)
      ANd here is Rhaenyra disobeying and still getting freedom and what she wants.
      If Alicent was a true friend she would of covered for Rhaenyra maybe even be happy for her to have found love, but she wants Rhaenyra to be confined the way she is.

    13:00 homosexuality is frowned on in Westeros, but it’s not actively oppressed either. It’s not something you’d get executed for. It’s loosely the same level as adultery: the clergy says people aren’t supposed to do it, but they still do - people just don’t talk about it in public.

    I think too much hate for Alicent is derived from moves thrust upon her by her father. Especially considering women in this time had little to no agency. That’s the dynamic I see between R and A, they are both victims of this hyper-patriarchal system and are navigating it their own ways (which the other low key detests). Alicent marrying the king was not what I would consider a choice. When she finally really stood on her own and basically in opposition of Otto, she found out she was lied to by her “friend”. I expect Alicent to actually become hate-able b4 the season wrap, but as of now she’s not any less sympathetic than Rhaenyra.

    people kept hyping up daemon but his logic will result in a ruined kingdom: 1. targaryeans do anything they want because they have dragons. 2. he wants to marry rhaenyra for the crown and he even verbalised about wanting to usurp his brother as a king. 3. he sees a king as someone who been through a war. 4. he's impulsive. 5. he can't even rule for more than a year before he got bored in the narrow sea.
    none of the above will result in him being a good king. he's sitting in the passenger seat just making comments about how the king should drive. he never once displayed ANY signs of being a good king. Westeros is prosperous now without any war...with daemon, there will be war after war.
    also if anyone notice: daemon has been TRYING to claim the throne for YEARS and all his plotting resulted in nothing. that speaks volume about his incompetency, and the writing shows. but people just choose not to see it.

      He didn't force her. He did however set it up by asking her to continue her meetings with Viserys and suggesting she dress up nicely. This was manipulative, since she wasn't really aware of what this could lead to at the time, whereas he of course was, but he didn't force her to do anything.
      That being said, I would still say his scheming was indeed responsible for putting her into the situation. He could just as well have kept her out of it and supported the decision for Viserys to marry Laena. He wouldn't have had a chance for his own blood on the throne that way, but this would have been the by far best decision for the stability of the realm, which Oldtown and House Hightower benefits greatly from. His own ambition has not only put his daughter in danger, but also put his house in a precarious situation; they're trying to signal strength now, but they know that they don't have the same military strength or prowess as most other houses, having opted to stay out of wars as much as possible (since their house and the city they are based in both rely primarily on trade and knowledge, hence why Otto would have done better to leave his perceived opportunity be and simply focused on keeping the realm stable).

    Ser Criston was a spiritual man who broke his vows and broke something deep inside of him, more so than Jon Snow breaking his vows. At least Snow knew of the White Walkers and could cling to that to keep going forward. Criston clung to the hope of "making an honest woman" out of Rhaenyra, but she all but laughed in his face. And to top it off, not only did he find out the Queen knew (he was so in his feelings he never realized she didn't know until he confessed) but here a total stranger could figure it out. The Queen he could maybe trust to keep it a secret but this new guy he never met before? That was the final straw.

    Remembering that the book fire and blood is narrated by dubious narrators The book is told by rumors and gossip so it is not reliable, in the book it says that Daemon never likes his wife he hates her the daemon was forced to marry his wife she it is not important in the story In the book there is nothing about her just that she is married to Daemon and that after a while the news comes from her that she died and that she died falling from the horse that is all that is said about the daemon's wife in the Book
    As I said,Daemon's wife is not important in the story,no one cares about her and the only thing to watch in the scenes when she talks about Daemon's wife is when Rhaenys says that Daemon's wife died,no one paid attention to the news she said That's because she's not important, in the books we don't know if it was the daemon who killed his wife because when she dies the daemon is in a war so we don't know if it was him, in the series they said it was the Daemon who killed his wife the daemon is not killing his wife because she had already lost the movement of her body So much so that he was leaving but the girl was very stupid she opened her mouth so he killed her, the scriptwriters are Ryan they said they said that Daemon is not the kill his wife if she didn't open her mouth, more like She opened her mouth so he'll kill her
    Being a Christian, if you soiled your white command, it was because you wanted to, because Rhaenyra didn't stick a knife in your neck and force you to do what you did, do you really think that, Rhaenyra? And give up everything just to be with him, my God, this girl is a princess she is heir to the throne she has her customs she is not one to give up everything to have a simple life, Rhaenyra is not in love with Christian she just wants to have fun she just wants sex that's all Christian you are very emotional you are very deluded you and stupid rhaenyra would never give up everything for you Christian you and only a knight have nothing to offer her

    Nah I love Alicent, shes the only innocent person around. Rhaenyra has brought trouble onto everyone. Otto might have seemed scheming, but he never actually did anything bad for the realm, it all just happend to be good for him aswell. I'm siding with the greens on this one, and with Daemon because hes cool, but Rhaenyra has fucked everyone up for selfish reasons.
    So right now I'm liking Alicent, Otto, Daemon, and House Strong, the new hand of the king is cool and his sons seem to be very useful while not having bad intentions.
    The jealousy angle you guys are looking at Alicent from is completely wrong if you ask me. If that was the case and she just wanted to ruin it for Rhaenyra then she could have just avoided backing her up on her virginity claim. Viserys would have had to believe Otto eventually and Rhaenyra would have been in deep shit, but Alicent backed her up because she was coping, hoping that Rhaenyra didn't throw away everything she and the king worked for. They're all doing their duty regardless of how hard it is but Rhaenyra just throws it all away for selfish reasons, thats where the tension is coming from, not any sort of jealousy from Alicent, that doesn't make sense.
    And the threat to her children on top of what obviously sours the situation even more. She was blissfully okay with the idea that her kids wouldn't be kings until she got the reality check that people will go to war to have the kings first born son on the throne. If a single one of them grows up and expresses ambitions for the throne then it would 100% mean that Rhaenyra has to kill him to maintain the claim, and Rhaenyra has been shown to be selfish enough to do that.
    Remember how she said she liked the guy who kept harassing the lil boy during the matchmaking scene? And how she constantly keeps lying to save face? While also expecting people to fall in line with her selfish desires? Thats where all the problems come from, not Alicent.

    The hate for Allicent, like several comments before me, is way too undeserved. This is a turning point for her and she will be easy to hate going forward but up to this point she did nothing to warrant being hated. How hard is it to understand that Criston’s honour is the only thing that gave him value and if he broke this than he feels he is no more than a peasant or commoner. As he says, that’s the only thing to his name. Without that he’s nothing. You’re not supposed to be part of the Kings guard or whatever if you broke your oath of chastity and Rhaenyra unknowingly broke him by putting him into a position where he felt like he couldn’t refuse her bc she’s the princess. If he said no, she could easily just flip the script and order his death or some worse consequences involving him getting tortured like he said to Allicent. Joffrey was making a subtle threat to Criston to not tell anyone and provoked him but he didn’t know that Criston wasn’t ok with it like he was and was struggling internally with his morals and felt like he was betraying himself, his name, and everyone by continuing to serve as a knight so if Criston took him out, then all would be cleared anyway since he intended to off himself and there wouldn’t be any consequences for either of them if anyone else found out about their lovers. Also Allicent married out of duty, she wasn’t head over heels for Viserys and hoping everything would be “peachy keen from here on out” with Rhaenyra. Newsflash, women, especially younger women, don’t have much say in their own marital affairs and choices in their life in this time. Also… Viserys is literally dying and y’all are just calling him lazy and tired… he’s sick, obviously he’s not going to be functioning well. And it’s been decades since he rode a dragon. He’s not a fighter, so again obviously, he’s not used to motion sickness and surely would not be used to riding dragons since he hasn’t done it in ages.

    👎 Alicent is not jealous. If you are paying attention and not just hatin, she was lied to by Rhaenyra who Alicent fought for and believed that got her father Otto fired as a hand. Last episode she defended Rhaenyra's virtue to the king. She felt betrayed by Rhaenyra's lie. You hatin so much on Alicent thinking she is poisoning the king but her character was portrayed as someone who obeys and performs her duties from the very beginning. You never mentioned any negativity about Rhaenyra betraying her father and the Velaryon family by asking her uncle to run with her. 👎Disliking this video because of the hate on Alicent's character without checking what made her upset and what she has been doing with her duty to her father and as a wife to the king while Rhaenyra messes up and brings headaches to the king. "Alicent going to use Criston as a pawn for her evil plan" Lady Reactor has a bias hate. Alicent saw the honesty and loyalty of Criston to his calling as a Knight and she relates to him as they both are performing their duties with honesty and decency.
