The column is just placed on the FLAT rebar footing/matting and there was no rebar placed ABOVE the column bent base, This means that the lowest footing/matting is excellent for a vertical downward load as it distributes the load to lower the pressure . However since the column is above the lowest rebar flat footing/matting and there are no VERTICAL TIES TO THE LOWER FOOTING/MATTING, then the concrete under the lowest bent column rebar is in TENSION when the Side thrust is applied and concrete cannot take tension, Placing rebar above the bent lowest fingers of the column, would have helped but there should have been vertical ties tying the bent part of the column rebar to the lower footing/matting. to introduce the steel to take the tension when the column suffers a side thrust. At 9:35 all the edges of that column footing should have been bent upwards preferably with a second bend horizontally to take the side thrust or the "side cantilever effect of the column , That column is not really tied to the foot matting below it. At 17:06 placing those bricks as shutters at the base of the vertical column, is a bit of a joke as the ends of the front brick will never fuse to the side bricks and so there is not buttress effect or a good vertical cantilever at the base of that column, The engineer supervising that work should have seen all this, Good material but not a good understanding of the principles of good engineering, People trusted to work in engineering should be sensitive to the details and not a case of filling in the bulk to hasten the project, There is little strength to side thrust in those columns. The logic of engineering is not obvious to many people and that could result in people doing what they think is right when it is not, An inspector should have supervised the final work before those columns were concreted over.
