  • Most motorcycles and scooters have magnetic analog speedometers such as my Royal Enfield motorcycle speedometer which after 42,000 miles was not working well. Its dial needle fluctuated wildly and it displayed erroneous speed readings. It was therefore completely disassembled into its individual parts to understand its working mechanism. This video shows full details of how these speedometers work. Understanding its structure and its parts is the key to understanding why and how they malfunction.

Very cool music. This video really helps to understand the workings of an analog speedometer. I was wondering if you might have a suggestion with what's wrong with my trip meter reset to zero function for my 78 Yamaha DT400. When I pull the knob out all I get is a running down or up- mile by mile, but not a 1 turn reset to zero. Kind of makes it hard to gauge when I pull over to get gas. Thank you so much.
