Stuart, the man, the myth the LEGEND! Not only did we learn a tonne about our engine with the confidence of someone who knows what they are doing 😂 but we ended up having a blast with them too! Result. Is this issue what you thought it would have been?
Yes Stuart is a total Legend. Helps his heap of knowledge and organizational skills to have the proper tools as well. That injector socket is priceless for your engine and the open end tubing wrenches too. Missed a valve train issue, thought leaking injector due to the smoke at start up.
Brilliant episode Becka & Zach and I’m honoured to sort out your engine, it was a team effort and happy you help you anytime love to you both take care Stuart & Chris xx
Stuart and Chris obviously think a great deal about you two. That’s a tribute to you for being such nice people. I’ve always said, if you respect your friends they will respect you too. Stuart and Chris are the best. It’s a beautiful thing to see.❤
This without a doubt the finest example of what true friendship is, and further more how valuable it is to have earned that respect..You guys should be proud.
I really got touched by the kindness towards the help you have got! As a boat builder and mechanic its a rough world of disappointing human behaviour. So happy to see some still got it!
There’s friends and there is Stuart. Legend doesn’t cover it. It looks like you now have a really good knowledge of your engine too. Brilliant episode, restores your faith in humanity
Every family needs an Uncle Stuart. That one cool uncle that always come through in the clutch. And the fact that navigation took you on the most dangerous route to your air bnb is hilarious.
Coral snakes are sometimes confused with a Scarlet King Snake. Same colors but in a different order. There's a rhyme to help differentiate. Red touches yellow, will kill a fellow. Red touches black, friend of jack. The snake you incountered was a deadly Coral snake.
For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, For he's a jolly good fellow, and so say all of us, And so say all of us, and so say all of us! Thank you so much Stewart. What a great friend.
Zac FYI, the plant that you called an Air Plant is actually called a Staghorn Fern. They need warmth and lots of moisture, in the shade. and can attach to tree bark or can grow well in a large pot.
So nice to watch a couple of young British folk on TH-cam for once! I really tired of hearing American & Australian accents of these Yachting channels! Well done guys, you're killing it!!
Good result, well done Stewart. 800 hours is a hell of a long time to go without a valve check. Now you know how to do it you could do it every time you change the oil.
Hats off to Stuart! I’ve adjusted the valves on a engine, but I’d be lost doing the detailed work he did. The engine sounded really good! A most interesting episode. Mind the valve gap right.
All this talk of engines and everything, but no-one is tallking about sandwiches by 10am! Wait and savour is my view! Oh, by the way, great eposide and the engine stuf was awesome.
I am getting nervous knowing that I am catching up to current. Waiting for episodes is going to feel like forever. I cant get enough of your perspective and appreciation. Also, I love pine trees too.
Thanks again for posting this. Only two things I can say. 1) I’m told good things happen to good people! 2) OMG, Stuart is a legend, where can I get a Stuart. He knows his stuff and willing to travel and help out. Can Stuart adopt me, the best stand up person I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch/see. You guys a great and deserve it all, thank you all for such a heart warming insight. Happy days to all. P.s I think Stuart’s wife was Bev, please let her know life is good having a Stuart like that in your life. Last and final, thank you all so much for giving me confidence in the human race again. Good people are out there I just need to find them. Take care, keep doing what you are doing. 👌😃
Stuart and Chris, what a pair of legends !! All 4 of you look like you had the time of your lives, we were all living vicariously through you !! What a wonderful thing this gift of life XX
To explain, it is a valve CAP that is missing, collets are wedges that hold the valve in place and they are under the large washer with the spring pack. The CAP sits on top of the valve and have several functions, raise the valve pack so you can set the gap, and secondly make the valve slowly rotate to allow constant lapping of the valves to make the seats seal. My personal thought is this engine was assembled wrong along time ago, as for this to jump out while running without bending a push rod would be impossible……………just saying
Sounds like sea water siphoned back into the cylinders which caused the valve to stick open allowing the rocker to hop out of the push rod cup. The extra clearance allowed the cap to hop off the valve. If the damage is limited to a rocker arm and a pushrod it is extremely good luck. Had the valve hit the piston you would be looking at a bent valve and a cracked piston. Personally I would have done a compression test as the cranking speed sounded uneven.
Those little hardened buckets on the end of the valve stem are called -- valve stem caps. Main purpose is to protect the end of the valve from the constant pounding of the rocker arm. Also on some engines they aid in allowing the valve to rotate a bit which is supposed to help keep the valve seat in better condition. In most engines, this is not the case.
God makes Angels in all shapes and sizes. Well done Stewart. To watch someone like Stewart methodically go about his work and show someone what he is doing is legend. I love the whole 39 1/2 minutes. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Great episode. Not just because you solved the engine issue, bit great to see a real friend turn up and help you in your hour of need. Stuart and Chris are great humans
Next time you check your valve clearances remember to use the rule of nine as you have a 4 cylinder engine. So, when number 1 valve is fully open check number 8 valve. When 2 is open check 7 and so on.
What a great result with the engine. As a vehicle technician it always sounded like an hydro lock fault and then you found the rocker problem. A combination of faults. Stuart is an absolute star in coming to your help and solving the problem. I’m sure Zach will have learned a lot from his considerable knowledge. Lovely to see you all enjoying the birthdays and the down time. Now you can restart your adventures.
Fabulous story time…ignoring the fact that a broken engine was the catalyst. 0800 Stuart…..to solve all boaties problems. Aome people just have a gift of not just helping but teaching as well. Glad to see he was letting zac get a real feel for each action & not just doing it all for him. As a female I now have a better understanding of engines than I ever have. Thank you all for this. episode 🎉
Hi lovely couple. We are narrow boaters here in the UK. But we follow Lots of stick and string stuff. Been following you for quite a while now. But now you have another subscriber. But I felt I had to send a comment. Because we know Stuart. He has worked on our Narrowboat lots of times in Westview Marina on the river great Ouse. Please mention Dave and Diane on N/B TicketyBoo. He is one clever dude !! Dave and Diane. XX PS Glad he got your engine sorted.
I love how this guy explains things. Makes the detail bits of the engine seem almost understandable to a lay person. Granted I know a lot more about an engine than the average person but the detail bits not so much. I love those people who can take and translate the gory details of something into common language explanations.
So happy it worked out so well for you. I knew that the Love Teulu has had and the people who love you would work together to get the Teulu TARDIS back in good order! So lucky breaks? Naw- you have earned this by the being the good people you are. Hugs 🤗
Fantastic, truly another remarkable episode. Thanks to Chris and Stuart for helping out this remarkable couple. Happy Birthday to Stuart, the LEGEND lives on.
Just the best episode ever! Assisted by the amazing Stuart (and Chris) …. but you two are nailing it … human, bold, doubtful, frail, strong, humorous, courageous, authentic, vivacious - above all brilliantly human … huge congratulations on your adventures, and weaving a wonderful tale about them. 🎉😊❤
What a brilliant chap Stuart is to do what he did for you and in such a tutorial way so that you will know what to do if it ever happens again, God forbid.
Brilliant job Stu! What brilliant friends, and great news! Engine sounds great! And you learned valuable information for the future... Talk about highs and lows and highs again! Never a dull moment with Teulu...
*Kudos Becka!* You always amaze me how much you take interest in the problems. Instead of sitting back letting the men fix things alone, you instead ask questions and learn to understand things. You go girl!
1. Stuart has a guaranteed business flying the world to fix cruisers engines... what a class guy. 2. That snake was deadly.. "red and yellow kills a fellow, red and black venom lack" Great episode...
Oh wow! You could immediately see the smile of relief on Becca's face, from the start ❤. And what an amazing thing to do, dropping everything and jumpng on a flight out there - and with parts to spare too. Loved seeing around the area and the waterfalls - special indeed. Looking forward to seeing you both back out there on the water again. Happy & safe travels (from a very wet n windy Peak District).
Stuart what a fantastic guy. To travel all that distance and bring all the necessary parts & equipment to repair the engine. So please Teulu’s engine is back up and running better than ever. Great video a bit of boat repairs and a scenic travel, a nice mix, a very interesting channel. Good luck with your travel’s/adventures Becka & Zack
Coral snakes are highly venomous but not aggressive and will tend to bite only when feeling threatened. It needs to chew on its prey for the venom to fully inject so most bites aren't very serious but it's still advised to seek immediate medical help. Stuart and Chris, what legends - the world needs more folk like them!!
I'm a traveler and have lived in Thailand for twenty odd years. I was a teenager in the Philippines and your mention of the scent of pine whisked me back to the Baguio mountains.
We get by with a little or a lot of help with from our friends. It is great to have such loyal and skilled friends able to support you in this epic voyage. After watching you on last weeks episode, I became concerned that you were thinking about the boat as if it was human. It is no question that the boat is important to you, but it is not a human and doesn’t have feelings.
Stuart needs his own channel. There are few with his knowledge but fewer still that can communicate it to the ungifted like me… Stuart , please consider sharing your gift on TH-cam for the good of the global community…
Hi guys, fantastic luck and news about your engine. You had me laughing out loud about the volve clearance. I met a fantastic German car mechanic many years ago and he call them ze walves. Laughing in sync from South Africa
Great Episode!!! To have a friend like that to come all the way to help repair your engine is priceless, but im sure it was a good holiday for them also :) Im sure you have rough times but im sure the good times are incredible :) Safe travels guys and always many smiles to you both :)
So satisfying to watch work someone so skillfull and a such nice person… Not wishing your engine anything bad, but would love to watch Stuart work again… 😁
Very happy to see you got the engine set up correctly, nice to have knowledgeable real friends that will come to your rescue, looks like you both learned a lot in the process .
CAUTION! Make sure the valve clearances were done at the correct part of the stroke (TDC) on each cylinder … turning them by the key isn’t normally accurate enough need a ratchet or bar on the crank pulley! And engine mounts might need to be on the list for next time! Good to she she’s running again!
😅Lol You did exactly what I did call a friend. Brilliant idea!!! All well that ends well. My dad kept an old Toyota Celica and when you hear tickity sounds they get louder the bigger the gap he will adjust them. Your hubby looked like a pro did a terrific job. Glad all is well with you!
Something we was told as kids on how to remember what snake was Poisonous is " Red and Yellow, Kill a fellow". And "Red and Black, Venom lack". Thanks for a Great video this week. So until next time ⏲️, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Aloha and cheers 🍻
Hello Becka and Zach. It's great to have friends. It's better still to have Good Friends, who will drop everything at a moment's notice and fly half-way around the world, to fix a friend's engine. Everybody needs friends like Stuart and Chris. You are both very lucky to have such friends. I bet the trip made a nice Birthday Present for both of them. It looks like Stuart really enjoyed his Birthday breakfast. Nice to see I wasn't far off with my comments of last week's edition. You were damn lucky with that Collet. That could have been really problematic, if it had fallen down the Pushrod hole. You now have a fully - and properly - functioning engine, which should keep you going for another 800 hours of use. Personally, I would be inclined to recheck the Tappet Clearances after 200 hours - or earlier, if they start to get noisy - as they can 'settle'. It would also be a good idea to recheck the tightness of the Fuel Line Banjos, as Copper Washers can also compress over time. I've had Motorbikes and Cars, so have considerable experience of both problems. Nothing worse than springing a leak in a fuel or oil line. Fair winds. Russ. UK
After seing a snake question on Twitter, I learned something about the identification of Coral snakes: the black band is next to a yellow band. If the black band is next to a red one, it's not a Coral snake and it's non-venimous!
Wow what friends to have to come out there to fix your engine for you, AND, give Zac a lot of training also, I am very impressed with you that you understand things mechanical and that you always show an interest when something is explained to you, two heads are always better than one. I thought I missed this episode about the engine fix so glad I didn't.
Checking the tappet clearances EVERY TIME you do an engine service is something i was taught you MUST do when i spent time as a car mechanic in the early 70’s. So glad Stuart has shown you what to check, and was able to come to your rescue. He really is THE MAN! So glad your engine is OK. Hope you are enjoying your adventures here in Costa Rica. If you do make it up to Lake Arenal could we find a way to meet up?
Stuart, the man, the myth the LEGEND! Not only did we learn a tonne about our engine with the confidence of someone who knows what they are doing 😂 but we ended up having a blast with them too! Result.
Is this issue what you thought it would have been?
Yep. I made that comment last week. Looks like I was nearly correct.
Yes Stuart is a total Legend. Helps his heap of knowledge and organizational skills to have the proper tools as well. That injector socket is priceless for your engine and the open end tubing wrenches too. Missed a valve train issue, thought leaking injector due to the smoke at start up.
Yep you owe him big time !!👍🏽☺️
I did say earlier that there was a faulty connection that was causing the slow turn over!
Not nearly as bad as I thought. Got used to modern gas engines that don’t have rocker clearance maintenance.
Brilliant episode Becka & Zach and I’m honoured to sort out your engine, it was a team effort and happy you help you anytime love to you both take care Stuart & Chris xx
Great fix stew 😊
All the best to you Stu and Chris for coming to the rescue! Lovely job!
Well done Stuart and Chris!!!
Definitely a knight in shining armour 👍🏽😁
Your an amazing soul
"What a legend" is an understatement. That guy is a hero!
He really is!!
With friends like Stuart and Chris, you can’t go wrong. Fabulous couple.
You're absolutely right! Stuart and Chris are amazing friends.
Stuart and Chris obviously think a great deal about you two. That’s a tribute to you for being such nice people. I’ve always said, if you respect your friends they will respect you too. Stuart and Chris are the best. It’s a beautiful thing to see.❤
It's heartwarming to have such supportive friends! We are very lucky.
The world needs more people like Stuart and Chris. True down to earth selfless heroes
Bravo Stuart! Zac earned his engine merit badge when he switched from the white shirt to a proper ragged “engine work” shirt!
Stuart is the real deal, knowledgeable, meticulous and passionate. Well done Guys
Stuart is the "Swiss army knife" of friends. Everybody needs a friend like Stuart!! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!! ☘
This without a doubt the finest example of what true friendship is, and further more how valuable it is to have earned that respect..You guys should be proud.
True friendship is like a rare gem, and we're so grateful to know these two!
STUART WHAT A MATE YOU ARE!!!! NEVER MET YOU BUT CAN JUST SEE WHAT A LEGEND YOU ARE!!!!!
He is definitely a legend!!!
I really got touched by the kindness towards the help you have got! As a boat builder and mechanic its a rough world of disappointing human behaviour. So happy to see some still got it!
Who knew a boat mechanic could restore our faith in humanity? Thanks for watching 😊
@@TeuluTribe Watching since inception! All the best!
Wow, now THAT'S what you call a true friend and a great person! Stuart.....you are a good, caring human being. Much respect. Great episode too!!!
Stuart is just the best, right? So glad you enjoyed the episode and recognized his awesomeness!
There’s friends and there is Stuart. Legend doesn’t cover it. It looks like you now have a really good knowledge of your engine too. Brilliant episode, restores your faith in humanity
Hats off to Stuart and Chris. I'm sure they both enjoyed their stay with you both.
Legend almost isn't enough! Those kinds of folks make the world go around .
It's true, those exceptional individuals truly do make the world go round!
You two definitely have two guardian angels: That gentleman and his wife... Good luck!
Every family needs an Uncle Stuart. That one cool uncle that always come through in the clutch. And the fact that navigation took you on the most dangerous route to your air bnb is hilarious.
One thing i would add is-- after getting the valve (tappet ) clearance set, recheck it again AFTER tightening the locknut. They invariably change!
Coral snakes are sometimes confused with a Scarlet King Snake. Same colors but in a different order. There's a rhyme to help differentiate. Red touches yellow, will kill a fellow. Red touches black, friend of jack. The snake you incountered was a deadly Coral snake.
Thanks for sharing that rhyme! It's definitely helpful to know the difference between the two snakes. 🐍
First time I saw California king snake almost got a coronary. Looks similar to Coral but completely harmless to humans.
Learned the rhyme for coral snakes in Arizona during desert survival training.
Lucky that their mouths are normally fairly small.
For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, For he's a jolly good fellow, and so say all of us, And so say all of us, and so say all of us!
Thank you so much Stewart. What a great friend.
Looks like you've got a future in singing birthday songs! Cheers 😂

Stuart you are an absolute diamond. Hats off to you good sir.
Glad you got that engine purring like a kitten sounds better than ever. STAY SAFE AND HAVE FUN!
So glad everything turned out well with the engine. Kudos Stuart for travelling out to help
It was definitely a relief that everything worked out with the engine!
Loved Stuart's master mechanic lesson. Fascinating details and a wonderful guy with a great spirit.
The world needs more 'Stuart and Christines' Top people
Best diesel engine startup sound I’ve ever heard Becka. 😊

Another epic episode. So glad you had Stuart to sort out your engine problem.
Have to say, I give props to Stewart, what an awesome person for doing this. Wish everyone was as nice as him, great friend.
Wow what a beautiful man Stuart is getting all the parts and spares. From your dad too!

Stuart what a man friend❤❤Bless him ❤❤
WHAT A GREAT FRIEND YOU HAVE .
Stuart, all power to your elbow, what you did by coming back to fix it, deserves a blessing. I take back what I said.
