Without any hope on getting my suitcase with my equipment back and crash landing the borrowed drone I got from a participant of the rally I am supposed to photograph, I decided to buy a new drone.
But it drops dead out of the air on the first flight!

there is no proof of any kind - this inexperience sociopath could have not had the battery fully in - or his phone died or malfunctioned - or a million other highly inexperienced asinine mistakes that he is simply begging for with his callus disregard for others.

    • @appye7994
      @appye7994 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@repaid1 at 12:37, he states that the log ends at 110 meters. This means it was NOT running before impact. He also goes on to say that the log does not show the descent. This was obviously a power failure. MY theory is that you have to be VERY careful about what David Brown indicates. This has happened to me twice with my P4. It sits in a closet now because I did not buy insurance. I fly a M2 now, and you better believe it has insurance. I had a mavic air for a little while and it had this feature where it wouldn't even allow takeoff if the battery clips were even SLIGHTLY out of place. This indicates that DJI is well aware of the design flaw, but did nothing to fix it in the p4-2 ...

v2.0 has an interlock switch that won't let the drone take off unless the battery is fully engaged. This was likely electronics failure due to 'infant mortality' end of bell curve of MTBF.

Peter, my Phantom 3 did the same exact thing, just fell from the sky. Sent DJI the files, it was out of warranty, they fixed it for free, it was a problem with the main board. It just powered off and fell, lucky it was only about 30 meters high and over farm ground. Your situation was bad but man that could have been much worse my friend with the people below. Thank you for this video. My phantom 4 pro did the exact same thing! It was hovering only 3' off the ground over a pile of snow so no damaged occurred. I tested with a second battery hovering 2' from ground, exact same failure. My drone was just within warranty so it was replaced, the only information I received was "main controller failure". The funny thing is before they determined my drone was still under warranty I received this:
Unfortunately, damage that is not caused by a product malfunction or is out of the warranty period is not covered by DJI aftersales policy. Damage was not caused by product malfunction. We'll either repair it or replace it with a product that's new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability after payment has been received.
"Damage was not caused by product malfunction" however after proving my drone was under warranty they did cover the repair. The drone I received back from them was new. I am here to say that power failure is a thing, I was filming at the time and video just stops at the point of failure. What happened in this video is exactly what happened to me, the only difference is I was 3' off the ground, the test with the new battery and the exact same thing happening again proves it. DJI is well aware of this issue.

Oh man, so sad. I feel your pain. My theory of the failure is that the battery pack was not fully locked into the compartment, and vibrated loose during the flight and the internal power connector finally came apart; that might explain a sudden power failure. I hope your DJI warranty experience goes better than mine... DJI found every reason to deny my claim when my Phantom flew away on its own into the ocean. I hope you have better luck with their support than I did. We love your videos.

Peter: I think you've risked making your first flight over people. You always have to try the products, in safe places. With your flight experience, you should not make these beginner mistakes.
The general rules of drone flights prohibit flying over crowds of people to avoid damage.

Take a good look on a large TV screen: the battery snapped out of the drone as the drone hit the ground. So this is not a case of a battery exiting the body of the drone high above.

Mate, I’ve just seen this. The exact same thing has happened to me TWICE. Thankfully, I have had my drone back for about 6 weeks now and it appears fine.
The one thing which caused me to second guess my actions was the battery connection. I have since discovered that the drone can be powered up without the battery being completely clicked into place. When you get it back, double and triple check that the battery is fixed correctly before take off.
Additionally, we all rush into getting our drone into the air. Take your time and check blades, battery, GPS signal, etc before every single take off.
    Safe flying. 🚁

So..my 7 day old Phantom 4 Pro v2 fell from above because the battery disconnected dispite the v2 having a fail safe to prevent that from happening. DJI covered this under warranty. Sent me a refurbished quad. Wow. Guess what happened after I received it back? Yep you guessed it! My second flight out it fell to the ground again. This time DJI said there was a problem in one of the boards in the aircraft. So they sent me another refurbished quad. Wow again. By this time nearly 9 weeks had passed. To this day I'm never comfortable flying the quad and rarely do and never far. How could I ever trust it. I feel your pain Peter and hope you fare well

Hi Peter, what I learned from 40 years RC flying is, that technical parts can fail anytime for any reason. Even if they are brand new! Coming from that, does it make sense to fly a drone without a independent parachute rescue system (e.g. ParaZero or others)? Even more with the risk of hurting people, damaging peoples property, causing severe fire (by burning LiPo‘s) etc. ! From my personal point of view a „must have“ for safely operating a drone.

      @repaid1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@stage3muppet No such thing in a instance like this. If the Drone was jammed (Signal lost from controller) being that close to home point the Phantom would have landed in place. If it was further away it would have returned to homepoint and landed. There are no devices that can shut down a Phantom/DJI..they can only in rarest instance scramble GPS and then it would have just drifted in wind. This was not a power failure as drone was running before it impacted. Many things wrong with operation of pilot, antennas not correctly oriented to aircraft for one, flying in a area with a untested/new drone is two. I would say probable cause for this is prop strike in air (Causing prop failure) or more likely props not locked on correctly...possible motor failure. Logs will tell the truth.. All in all operator should not have been flying where he was and is lucky he lost only the Phantom.

Same thing happened to one my p4p v2 in aug Peter in middle of a job in outback Australia.
After investigation, the reason for power failure was battery dislodgement.
Despite the v2 having the new battery securing redundancy feature.
My battery also popped out on impact onto a rock hard surface just like yours mate.
Dji promptly replaced the aircraft and battery as they should with yours.
Hopefully future battery securing design will include a clasp over locking mechanism rather than plastic lips
That will be a better system than current double securing method of a pilot putting duct tape over the battery
Key safety feature to ensure the aircraft will not fall out of the sky is it will not takeoff unless battery points make contact, when the possibility exists for those points to lose contact then that safety feature becomes a hazard

Hi, I felt your frustration watching this video.
A similar situation happened to me with the Phantom Pro v2.0 while I was in Miami a little more than a year ago.
My Mavic Pro caught fire mid flight in Miami Beach - The Camera Gimball Ribbon got stuck and burned. The following day I purchased a brand new Phantom Pro v2.0 in Miami, charged it and went on a first flight in Brickell, Miami. The Phantom got disconnected 500m from me, and just dropped out of the sky never to be seen again. I was really upset, I went back to the store the following day a bought yet another brand new Phantom Pro v2.0, same store, one day later, the saleswoman couldn't believe it and told me it had happened to another customer as well on the same week.
Took my brand new drone for a first flight on the Miami River by Bayside. Unbelievably the drone got disconnected at 300m and kept flying away until I lost sight of it. It never returned Home even thought RHT was activated. The sky was clear blue with zero wind.
I've been going back and forth with DJI for more than a year now and they are still refusing to take responsibility, even after I have sent them the cache, the flight itineraries, the pictures, the serial numbers, the receipts. I get automated replies always asking me to repeat the same story again, again for more than a year. Horrible Customer Service.
Meanwhile my old Phantom 4 bought in 2016 still flies well 4 years later.
The Phantom Pro v2.0 is unreliable and dangerous, it does drop from the sky and could hit anything or anybody.
In the end DJI offered me a 30% sale on a new Phantom Pro v2.0 even though I lost 3 drones in 3 days (Mavic Pro, and 2 PP v2.0). Their conclusion is that it cannot be proven that the Pro v2.0 had a malfunction, and so it could be a human error. Complete BS.
I don't really have the confidence to fly DJI drones like I used to in the past. The drone damages property, or falls on a person or a dog or anything and I could be liable for millions of dollars.
Thanks for the video. That proves that I am not the only one who had such an incident.
    Cheers.

I have seen this happen on several Phantom 4 Pro drones. Was hovering at 100' and drone went silent. Looked up and battery and drone are falling separately. The battery will lock only one tab in and then the other works its way loose. A friends did the same thing. DJI Fixed both at no charge.

After a careful analysis: the battery separated from the drone at the moment the drone hit the ground. The battery then jumped about 1 meter from the hit point while the main body of the drone jumped about 6 meters from the hit point. Only one conclusion is possible: the battery was well within the drone until the ground impact.

Hi, I was flying a new Phantom 4 pro V2.0 with a friend that is also a pilot like me, we were testing it, because my friend got a job with a big company in my country, after 3 or four minutes in the air, the bird came down and smashed on the floor, we were flying at 3 meters above the ground, the drone was new, it was the company's Drone were my friend get the job, he was totally scared, at the end we found on the web that some batterie lot from DJI were defective and many pilots have had the same problem.
    Batterie failure I guess mate.
    Luckily you were filming it.

I had similar situation on the beginning of this month. Have to say it was not my first fly on that drone, but first after firmware update. I was really lucky because it happened on really low altitude about 0.5m of the ground, but it was enough to brake it. Also didn’t have a video of the fall and had to pay about 200€ for repair :(

I had the same problem with a brand new phantom 4 a year ago. I had owned it about a week and then while flying over a marsh it just dropped out of the sky. DJI tried to claim that I flew before it wamed up but I pointed out that it won't take off like that. Then they tried to claim pilot error but the flight logs showed I had taken off and flown outbound with constant climb and then it just dropped. It took a month of daily calls before they finally accepted responsibility. Then they promised to ship it overnight but I didn't get it for almost 3 weeks.
I do like the DJI products. And I am tolerant of failures. But their customer service is the worst.
I do wonder if the battery ejected. My battery was found about 20 feet away from the airframe. Looks like yours was too.
    Good luck!

This is an adventure quite allright. Unbelievable it just fell out of the sky. Two weeks ago, I had also mid-air troubles. It was in the open field, in the middle of nature. The camera was suddenly hanging and moving randomly while no telemetry data on the display was updated anymore. The cameraproblem could perhaps be due to a tough breeze as it was a bit windy that day but not alarming. But that doesn't explaine the lacking telemetry data.. I decided to lower the drone to 5 meters (that did work) to get it out of the wind, because I knew it's location approximately and I didn't want it to be drifting away or something. I couIdn't see if it was hovering above the same spot at 80 meters. So no telemetry but there was good video. I didn't know if it was safe for the drone to land, so I had to run 600m and see if landing was safe. I have still no idea what caused the sudden malfunction, but it is proven that despite all safety measures in drones and software, it is just not safe. It was not a user fault in both our cases, that's for sure. I hope your equipment has been arrived in the mean time. You then might have sold your old Phantom and now be enjoying the replaced new Phantom. (would be best scenario I guess). Good to know they pay up to 1000 Euro's only, didn't know that. Thank's, despite the bad luck, it was a very exiting video to watch :)

Oh my god I m so worried for you 🙁 I think the drone fall out of the sky because the battery disconneted and that s why the flight logs end at 110m and why your screen froze in grey an it says "Aircraft disconnected". The phantom 4 pro obsidian was having some battery disconnection problems (it could be the same problem on your drone).
