- How to make full-faced labels for Minidiscs. For anyone who wants the template, I would be happy to share it with you but I will do it on DROPBOX Please no more requests to send by email. If you want the template, post your request here and put your email address on the post. I'll send you the Dropbox link via email and then delete the post that has your email address in it. That's the only way I know of to share it. Thanks! :)
This is what makes me think that I am living in a simulation. I was transferring Arc Angels from cassette to minidisc and I decided to search for "making MD labels." I randomly selected the first TH-cam video and this guy is making a label for the same album. Odds?
The chances are pretty high. Your devices picked up the sound and image and through Google services, TH-cam put a handful of attributes and search terms together to make recommendations.
Thanks for the Video!! I personally am getting back to my CD's & MD's that have been boxed up since the early 2000's & have over a 1000 CD's alone. Most of my MD's are of Recordings of my 12", Maxi- Singles (Club, Extended, etc...) from my Vinyl Collection from 25+yrs of buying them. When MD came out (now this was before recordable CD's), they were the 1st Digital Recording Media, besides DAT that was somewhat affordable) I started recording ALL of my Vinyl Records and then sold them on Ebay and made all of $$ back & then some as they are very collectible to many around the globe!
I miss the feeling of having an Artists Album/CD to have in hand & Appreciate what I have in hand. If your old like me (45yo), I remember going to the RECORD STORE & buying new music!! I used to spend half my paychecks on New Music! Now I have about 4+ MP3 Players all with hundreds of songs & thousands across all of them, but I find myself just skipping over songs & not taking the time to enjoy full songs.
All Media types is on OVERLOAD of what is out there. I just miss taking a Disc (CD or MD) & going to the gym, or taking a walk. So I have recently bought some new & used MD portable players/recorders (I am now collecting them:) & a Deck Unit for my new "Stereo Amplifier" only to start making discs again. I sold my old MD deck on Ebay also & the portable I used to have broke after I dropped it hard one day long ago.
Now I am a very "Tech" oriented person & have a 75" 4K TV with 7.2 surround sound, etc... So I just purchased a Regular old Stereo Receiver & Speakers for it. Making my "Audio Listening" a more cozy & personal experience. I guess in other words... I am slowing down to enjoy things as I once did when I was younger & no "Netflix" or "Spotify" to no cell phones, internet, etc...
Aight, that's my story that nobody asked for, but I am again enjoying things like I used to!

amazing work! I miss my minidisc collection. I'm buying a Tascam recorder again. I really liked my Tascam recorder because it was rackmountable and uses a keyboard for editing titles
That's great! IMO it's just fine to get a recorder and some discs; even though it's an obsolete format now there's no reason you can't enjoy it.

Nice video! I'm nowhere near precise enough to do a full disc label, but to be honest I prefer my discs mostly uncovered. Still, I'll do the rectangular labels for some plain discs I do want to label, and I'll be sure to keep that tape idea in mind!
It only takes a few tries to get pretty good at making a full disc label, and the results are really nice. I'd advise just to be patient and maybe start with a few discs that you could afford to lose if they don't turn out, just to practice. You'll find after a few tries you'll be good at it. It's fine to make smaller labels but I just find having all my discs look the same is not as interesting. Also you could try various methods in between -- I mean that I have made discs with various amounts of the disc showing; i.e. cutting out a small border around the entire disc, etc.Also I don't always put a label on the shutter; sometimes it looks better with no label there just depends on the colour of the shutter vs. the colour of the album art, etc...Give it a try; you'll find the results can look really impressive! Regardless, I hope the video has helped you to produce some quality results!

That's great to hear. The only sure way I know that I can share it with you is if you reply to this post with your email address. Once you do that, I will send you an email with a Dropbox link. Great! I hope you can make some great results :) If/when you do, come by the facebook page. It's just "MINIDISC"; there are lots of people who use Minidisc there and some of them are into creating labels :)

Have u try Printable Vinyl ? Or print direct with a flat bed printer. Or has anybody try sublimation ?

I'm going to add that to the description for this video too. Happy to share it but I keep getting asked the same question over and over again. I don't know a better way to get the file over to you; as far as I know TH-cam doesn't have a private messaging feature.

Does the change in thickness of the disc affect how snug it fits in the player? I assume that people usually make the small labels to fit inside the recessed area designated for labels, leaving the overall thickness of the MD unchanged. Any problems that might arise from covering the whole MD? Cool idea though and the MDs with this labeling method do look nice.
There is no problem with thickness. To demonstrate, if you look at a blue colour Hi-MD disc, the shutter has a part that's a bit higher than the rest of the shutter (a little square where it says "Hi-MD"), and the labels with this method are certainly thinner than the total thickness there. I've been making/using these for 20 years, ever a problem.

@@propellerkopf7155 yes absolutely. As far as I know TH-cam doesn't allow DM's so the only way that I know of is you'd have to post your email address here. Once you do that I'll send you an email with the Google Drive link and then I'll delete your comment here that has your email address in it.
I know it's not much, but does the extra weight of the paper and tape put a strain on the player/recorder's mechanism?
Absolutely not! How much do you think the paper weighs anyway? The weight of the label is insignificant.

Couldnt you just cut it exact with a cricut and then single side laminate it. Would come out perfect
I don't know what you mean. But it's entirely possible that there's a better way to cut them than what I'm doing.

I don't know the size exactly. I had measured it out and carefully made a template which is what I use. The template was made over 20 years ago now so I have no idea the size anymore.

Made it myself. It was painstaking to get it done. If you want it reply with your email. But wait until after the 12th as I am out of the country right now.

I don't know what you've posted, but I highly doubt you actually did this. I've sent the template out to more people than I can remember and the video description has clear instructions for how you can get the template. I routinely delete any posts with email addresses in them AFTER I've sent out links in order to help protect peoples' privacy. Links nowadays are sent out to Google Drive, as Dropbox has stopped working for me for some reason. If you want the template just reply here.

I made a template for doing this 20+ years ago. No way I am going to try to remember the measurements now (actually I have no idea). It took me quite a while to make the template. It's in Corel Photo-Paint format, although I have exported it to several other formats too and I have been told it opens and works in Photoshop (though I don't know this for sure myself). If you join the Facebook group "Minidisc" you can find the templates there. They are free to download.

Sorry I have no idea. I created the template many years ago when Hi-MD was new. I do not have the measurements written down anymore. And I do not know anything about Macs, I've only used real computers. Good luck and if you get something nice I'd love to see it :)

Hello, TH-cam keeps deleting my comment for some reason, is there any other way for you to share the google drive link without email? I think TH-cam auto-deletes comments with emails in them now. Best regards.

You could always just post the files onto a brand new google account and disassociate it from your personal one. (Alternative Account) That's what I personally do when posting files online. Other than that you could try anonymous filehosters but they can be fishy sometimes. Best regards.

I recently got a minidisc player and I'm looking to record some of my favourite albums on the format
I am not too familiar with Dropbox so I don't know the possible security repricussions of posting a dropbox link here. The only way I know how to do it is if you post your email address here I can send you the Dropbox link. After that I will delete the comment that has your email address in it. I don't think TH-cam allows any private messaging. If you want to do that pls wait until after Feb 12th as I am currently out of the country.

The files are too big and troublesome to send by email; that's why I don't do it that way anymore.

No, sorry, this video was made 4 years ago but the actual template was created probably 20 years ago so nothing exists from that far back

Hey there. Is there a chance programs like: "Photo Impressions", "Photo Explosion", etc. may work well for this project? :) Will any 8 1/2" x 11" photo paper work well for this project? :) Thank you! :)
I really don't know. As long as you can import the template you should be fine. The paper used doesn't really matter but I prefer glossy myself.

You can get it one of two ways: You could join the facebook group "Minidisc" and in that case it's available in the downloads section. Or I can email it to you. Send me your enail address if you want it. I did it in .cpt format; I tried converting it to a few other formats too but I don't remember which ones -- I'd have to check

OK I have no idea how to sent you the dropbox link. The TH-cam site is confusing as hell...is there a way you can send a message to me with your email address? I'll email you the link. Spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how to send you a stupid link and still can't do it. Likely it's just me that's the stupid one but obviously TH-cam and me don't get along very well.
