Great informative video . Im neither pro ban or anti ban but it is what it is and we can all point fingers like you said , just need to get on with it . I own a big 75kg 2year 9month old male Boerboel who every other walk gets accused of being a Bully since this ban announcement so its worrying. I'm muzzle training him now just incase he needs to be looked at or approached by anyone official. A lot of these big mastiff/livestock guardian types you can't just approach head on in a confined space so there will be a lot of dogs wrongly deemed dangerous including XL's with their mixed lineage. The dogs trust etc are a total joke and dont make any effort to rehome dogs , any bullys that end up there are probably done for . I have 1 acre of land , 8ft fenced ,no children , self employed, spend time fishing/hiking outdoors stuff , i was 32 years old , experienced owner and couldn't get a dog approved from them . Many mastiff and mixed breed types and i was rejected every time only to see these dogs disappearing from the shelters one by one . Sad times but at least we have fenced dog runs and fenced woodland walks where you can get the XL's off to some extent, its the only time i let my Boerboel off now as there are too many aggressive dogs off lead that would run up to him only to get hurt in self defence . Just dont do anything to put your dogs at risk guys , even if its not your fault

If you are neither pro ban or anti ban what would be you suggestion to stop the current issue regarding thse dogs? Genuine question btw only because Im againt banning them but i dont see any other way to keep the public safe especially kids

@Daaan09 I would say legislation across the board not just dog licencing like we had in the 80's . Registration as dog breeders (all breeds) with tight legislation on temperament , lineage and health checks on breeding stock , living conditions and environment checks of kennels probably done independently would be best . Then a air tight system to ensure only suitable owners have the right to own a dog based on experience and lifestyle. Maybe a system like for young bike riders where you are limited to a king charles spaniel or golden retriever (50cc bike) with compulsory attendance of training classes , vet checks then allowed to progress to more demanding breeds like gsd , English bull terriers, rottweiler, working line labs and spaniels. Upper end experience only for breeds like XL's , belgian malinois , Cane corso , Boerboel etc . With only dogs with certified recall being allowed off lead in public . All this info correlated to the microchip number .
Even a tiny bit of this would take decades and 10's of millions to work and that's money this government doesn't want to spend , so a short term knee jerk reaction is to ban XL bullys and it will probably work short term to bring attacks down . It will drive down the value of dogs and reduce breeding also scare owners to be ultra vigilant of dog behaviour as well as being on lead and muzzled.
So I can see the pros short term and I can see the cons long term . The cons long term being that breed specific bans don't work long term with current unregulated ownership, it only shifts over time to another breed or the ban can't be enforced effectively. Within 2 Streets of where I live there are 10 pure bred pits ...
It's not really a debate worth having because all we can give is our opinions , which aren't worth anything to the people in charge . Problem is the people in charge only want to keep their voters on side , we know on the whole they don't care about dogs and dog owners .

@@JamieVauxnut1 Thanks for replying and fair enough I get your response. First and foremost the main problem is that it is in XL bullies DNA to carry on attacking until it is dead thats why I find it hard to compare it to those dog breeds you just mentioned because those dogs are less likely to maul you to death (of course they can do serious damage). Respectfully why would the government spend millions or make that much effort a something that is an accessory just to keep people safe? That doesn't make any logical sense sorry. I agree with dog license but i'm sure the government have thought about that but people will still walk around with dogs unlicensed and there's not anywhere near enough law enforcement to patrol or monitor that. At the moment these XL bullies are averaging around 2 fatalities a month the government feel they need to do something about it now, I also agree they are banning them to gain votes.
Appreciate the response I just don't think there is any alternative currently then banning them at the moment.

it would work if all these attacks are from XL Bullys. It was the same with pitbulls at a point. Majority of these recorded attacks are from other Bully breeds or crosses and unfortunately are all just put against XL Bully. I don't even own bully dogs, but bans fix nothing, they need regulate who can certain dogs full stop, theres plenty of breeds that are dangerous in the wrong hands@@Daaan09

@Daaan09 totally agree with everything you said and banning is a short term solution that will reduce fatalities. The government won't implement any of the measures I mentioned but will probably try licencing ownership again which will do nothing. I'd imagine this ban will be long term with a ban on breeding taking numbers down to the same as pitbulls , still there but not as blatant. The drive of the pit in the bully is obviously still there in some individuals but some of the guardian breeds like CAS , Malakli , Anatolian have a combination of incredible protective drive combined with huge size, athleticism and power. Some xl bullys will have the dna from these dogs as well as pits which is just terrifying to think about . These other breeds i mentioned are just as difficult or dangerous because of the difficulties encountered in training independent thinking breeds , where pits and bullys are potentially more dangerous ( in the eyes of the public) they are also easier to train than the others , so both have issues. There obviously just aren't anywhere near the same numbers of these breeds compared to bullys with most being bred and owned by responsible individuals ( at the minute).
I think the best we can hope for is steps towards properly regulated breeding if we had to pick one area to improve.
