    Every match I've seen with the Brain Busters is incredible and well thought out. Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard were the most under-rated tag-team of the late 80s-early 90s. I put their talent up against any tag-team. The bumps they took were awesome!

    I met Honkytonk Man AND Virgil at a convention. I wanted to talk to Honkytonk, and we had a fun chat (learned he had to replace fiberglass guitars with breakaways because the fiberglass could flat-out kill a man) and the ENTIRE TIME Virgil kept trying to join in the conversation, while Honkytonk kept doing a one-handed "don't make eye contact, kid" wall.
    And it wasn't a cute fun join-in, he kept wanting us all to get a photo together which he was charging for.

    Ever since that WWF arcade game that featured the legion of doom, I was a huge Mr perfect mark. My tag team in that game was perfect and sgt slaughter, and they were my toy tag champs too. The perfect army rolled over all WWF and WCW toys. I used to put the lil belt on the champ and line up wrestler toys in order of their contender number then plan out my shows. Man that was fun. @@blrolz3544to be honest with you I agree. I also think that is his charm. He’s a “regular guy” who is charismatic and he tries his best against the bigger opponents. That’s why people like him so much. Imagine it’s the 80s again before Vince and you decide to bring the family down to the local wrasslin show in your area and he comes out… it makes you think he’s on your side and you could maybe do it too! It’s such a winning combination.

      If they hadnt had done that the fans would have gotten sick of him really quickly especially with Hogan back in a full time capacity. I love Macho but he just isnt the mainstream draw that Hogan is in 1989, so i can totally see why they put the belt back on Hulk. Granted give it 4 more years and yeah id say Macho could actually had carried the company as a top face with Flair as his big heel foil and helped to build new talent like Bret and Shawn as fans got super tired of Hogan to the point they were actively booing him and were more intrested with in ring ability which Macho had in spades

  • @melanielange3577
    @melanielange3577 10 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    Dusty's Outfit wasn't a "humiliation", it was his very own creation. First he was portraited as "Common Man" with videos about various jobs, then he had the Polka Outfit. Dusty himself created it, because he wanted Pat Patterson's booking position and to proof that he is 'better' he wanted to proof to Vince that he could get anything over, even the most ridiculous things. The Sapphire story was also his idea, though he rather wanted some black street hooker which Vince denied, opting for something more "family friendly". Vince already created a Dusty Rhodes parody before Rhodes came to the WWF: Akeem the African Dream, everything from the name to a white guy acting like a black guy and dancing like an idiot was a spot-on Dusty parody. Dusty talked about this in quite some detail in his book, on the WWE DVD and some other Shoot Interviews (like that one from 1999). I can understand why many think it was a sort of "punishment" from Vince, since quite a few Wrestlers were turned into complete Crap by Vince because of various reasons, though those never had anything to do with them "being stars at the competition", like the Road Warriors and Rocco was a punishment more for them failing drug tests and being hard to work with or Ricky Steamboats 1991 Gimmick was for lying to Vince about retiring in 1988 just to show up in WCW in 1989 or Owen Hart with the Blue Blazer Gimmick in 1999 which was a punishment for him refusing various storylines like the one with Debra.
    Otherwise we would've seen tons of Stars from other promotions ending up as fools at WWF like Ric Flair, Lex Luger, The Road Warriors in their first run, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Harley Race, Kerry von Erich and while some wrestlers had stupid gimmicks later on, it was just how the time at WWF was. The Skinner gimmick was dumb but i doubt it was a humiliation of Steve Keirn (one of the biggest Stars in Florida before: 5x World Champion, 12x Tag Team Champion, 5x NWA US-Tag Team Champion)

      In the late 80s. You might already know this but in the 70s to most of the 80s he was wrestling in (and booking) violently bloody matches elsewhere in NWA and Jim Crocket Promotions. His forehead and bicep is badly scarred from barbed wire and from blading. When Vince brought him to WWF, his best action days were behind him and of course Vince didn't want blood on tv, so WWF Dusty was all just campy personality and goofy polka dots. He was in blue jeans and t-shirt before that. Sadly, Vince didn't actually want Dusty, but he didn't want NWA or WCW to have him because he was a top guy back in the day, so he was brought in as a funny good-time dancing goofball.

    The PIper/Rude feud was based around Roddy coming in as Gorilla Monsoon's color commentator on Prime Time - while Bobby Heenan had an hour of Prime Time for the Bobby Heenan Show - which was a delightful insane schmoz of non-talent and oddities.
    The week prior to SummerSlam - Bobby got tired of Roddy Piper threatening him, so he brought Rude to deal with Roddy Piper, and Piper said he was going to be in the Meadowlands and Rude said he didn't dare come there (implying that Piper would interfere and cost Warrior the title match).
    Piper was more sneaky than that I guess.
