Ah, maybe I missed something in the update to Lightroom. I thought I downloaded the most recent version but perhaps there was still an update since. It seemed to me functions like the tone curve and color grading weren't available in the masks in LR. Glad ya liked the video!
Thank you I’ve been trying to get my new computer set up and trying to take the time to learn C1. You were right on time. Can wait to see your over lay . Thank you again.
Thanks for an excellent tutorial on editing exposures with masks! I really like the speed of Capture One and the live view options in it from your demo videos. I may have to subscribe to it to try out (or do a trial if that is offered). I am starting to do tethering for small product and flat lay comps and I got the C stand you recommended for overhead camera. Regarding "brushes and gradients" with access to "tones and curves and colors" I use a different program ACDSee Pro 22 which has all those controls mentioned for masking and sliders like Lightroom, however does not have any liveview or tether capture functions (not yet). Capture One sounds very versatile and functional and I like the camera controls shown. I will have to try it out if it has a trial offer.
@@TheBiteShot thank you so much I’m not saying this to give you a big head but you have a really nice way of sharing your knowledge and I so appreciate it. I’m a long time C1 user but it’s hard to find someone who takes the time to be clear about this very deep software and I thank you so much . Your great.
Masks are truly transforming friends for photography... I love them! But I can do all of what you have demonstrated here with a free version of Photoscape... the results are very good. There is also a one off fee paid version of Photoscape that offers even more features. I'm wondering what Capture One costs? It mentions a free trial, but nowhere does it mention what it costs after your trial runs out or what the pro version costs.🤔
thanks for sharing these suggestions. The new masks on Lightroom have all the options of camera raw, btw. A question: wouldn't be better to solve that problem in camera, shooting with a light far away from the subject, because of the inverse square law? I mean... the less light fall, with a bigger distance. Have a wonderful weekend.
That's great to know Lightroom's update includes all camera RAW options. Even the tone curve? Glad they got that sorted! And for some, yes, adjusting the light could be a quicker solve. All depends on this situation in my experience.
@@TheBiteShot nope... not yet. No tone curve at the moment. Thanks for your answer... your advices are always very interesting. Have a nice weekend and Ciao from Milano.
I do this in very easily in photoshop working with raw images. I’ve never used Lightroom because it is limited. What’s your take on photoshop vs capture one?
I still use Photoshop for more advanced retouching. But, fortunately Capture One plays well with Photoshop enabling saved TIFF files from PS to be brought back into the Capture One session.
Love this Joanie! Thank you! Have you ever had trouble copy & pasting masks from one image to another? I’ve tried it and all of a sudden layers were duplicating and had nothing in them etc. It was a bit messy!
There is definitely a lot of functionality in CO, but I still do use Photoshop for more complex fixes to an image. Fortunately CO and PS play nice together.
Yes!! I always struggle with too hot of highlights from where the light comes from.
Being using Capture One Pro since day it came out, far better than Lightroom. I still use Photoshop from time to time.
Thank you for class on Capture one using food. I make sure watch more of your videos. Thanks for the tips.
Great informative video. However, the gradient masks work equally in Lightroom. You can definitely control all elements in LR as well.

I feel like Capture one is just photoshop and lightroom combined :D Love the video, got me even more interested in capture one
