Most of the parts, outside of the engine are made by Mercedes, so they last forever if serviced correctly. The engine is a beast, it’s just high maintenance in the most loving sense of the phrase.

You can also kill the dash and interior lights completely at night. It's great for parking at night so the lights don't blind you. Also the 2020+ chargers switched to the 8 speed so the V8 are rear wheel drive only now. Still a great car. They are the best handling patrol car in pursuits and fast driving. Love them but I prefer the Durango.
Yeah, but it’s got 100,000 idle hours, and 100,000 wot miles. Those rockers and bearings are probably shot. Its been taken over curbs and offroad. It’s also missing a lot of content, which is fine. But the engine, tranny and suspension (less so) would worry me. Otherwise, it would be a great deal.
The AWD 5.7 hemi police package are badass cop cars because they are AWD and got HEMI MUSLCE possible suped up too! I got 5.7 hemi rams they are wild even stock it’s enough power to make you smile. The original 5.7 magnums made 345hp stock. That’s fantastic for it’s time and still today they are fast. Now they make 395 or 400hp stock I believe maybe more. Bigger heads I think they went with higher output way more fuel efficient
Man it’s worth it just to have the column shifter, I remember when that is what all cars had, it’s so much faster and intuitive, I don’t know why they moved it to the floor and never gave anyone an option ever again.
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Don’t forget about the windshield washer tubes breakaway feature that sprays your engine bay instead of windshield. A lot of development went into it. It’s only activated after a few years
The pursuit models also used the older 5-speed transmission up until 2021, which is weird because the civilian Chargers had 8-speeds way back in 2012. They finally introduced the 8-speed so they can have AWD V6 models. The 5-speed was unable to provide AWD to the V6.
Its because the 8 speed won't fit in an awd V8, the transmission is too long to fit with the extra length of the V8 plus the awd transfer case but the v6 is short enough that the 8 speed trans will fit.
Worked on these before. A quick engine refresh (or complete replacement, depending on the condition of the engine), a check up on the transmission and diffs.
The only thing you never hear about these explosives cars has. They've been wrecked, trashed and tore up and put back together and so on. And then sold to the public.
As a mechanic for cjdr. I didn’t know about the back door plunger, but usually when I work on them I can easily open the doors when the cars unlocked, possibly a way to disable it. I never noticed the door handles either on the inside, but from what I recall they did in the area I’m at it, it’s possible they just disconnected the cable, but then the handle would swing all dumb and loose, so idk, I’ll have to take another look next time I get police car.

Say what you want about these but I had a border patrol interceptor package Tahoe that gave me almost no issues. I put it up on 35s and a 9” lift and drove like a dick. Added 30k miles to the existing 85k miles and the only issue I ever had was a yoke on the driveshaft - a problem due to the angle of the lift kit. Not a single problem otherwise.
I dont know how many of or which ones but somebody I know bought a ex border patrol truck without knowing it and he found the safety switch for the gear selector unplugged. he later found a chip in the motor and he kept using the safety switch, (this one was hidden by a bubble on the floor). that truck got up really fast, I miss it so much, he sold it a couple years later to pay some bills and the person who bought it totaled it in less that 2 weeks and police tried getting him to pay for it since it wasn't switched over to the new person yet.
I assume they do extra work to make sure the MPH is always displaying accurate numbers, so I assume our normal cars may be off at higher speeds since we're not legally allowed to go above 75 on the streets anyway

I think the reason why the speedometer in normal cars are inaccurate. Is because so the people think they are doing the speed limit. But they could be doing 3 miles slower
Meanwhile, most police cruisers here in Brazil are ordinary cars plotted with the police graphic package. The only thing they change are the seats and sometimes the gear ratio.
By the time these vehicles get auctioned the certification for the speedo is expired normally. While in the fleet they get certified by a third party company that verifies accuracy and records all data of the speedo twice a year for all units. It only needs to be certified if they pace you for speeding tickets, if they have laser or radar it's not as important to get it certified.
I have an older 2012 charger police car, and if you have passengers in the back, you need to unlock the back doors for them to get out. Also, instead of a center console, they replaced it with a big wooden box with sharp corners. At one point it must’ve had a computer built into it
I’d Throw some SXT badges revert it back to a normal car on the inside and the spotlight and rims. And I would throw either a hellcat engine in it or just build the motor and supercharge it and make it a sleeper
The speedometer is only correct if you use the factory brand tires. If you use good for a year tires it will be off. They are made smaller than any other brands on the market

Add a Tazer and you can toggle from AWD to RWD. Plus a ton of other stuff.

Suspension is the same as the factory HD Suspension but some can have self leveling nivomat rear shock which you don't want.
