What a nice old man... It's a shame we lose these people. Such wisdom and knowledge they've accumulated with age... experiences that can never be replaced. It's too bad that often we in modern society don't respect our elders, and simply wish to put them up in a nursing home :/
Woodgas is good gas. It produces nearly all of the electric power I use here during the winter. Having seen the advantages offered by this old technology, I will never go back to using petrol for a generator :) .
With some friends i used to restore old army vehicles. Once we build a gasifier to made from oil drums. We managed to run a 6.5L 6 Cyl Truck engine on in although the whole system was not really completed yet. Unfortunately we never came to finish the project.... That is until now... i'm trieing to assist a friend of me to try it again to supply a generator. Then again... i still own an 1956 army jeep.......
Perfect apocalypse vehicle. Runs on petrol for when you need to take off and move fast. Runs of hollz gas to save on fuel for those extra long journeys
What a cool older gentleman ... What's interesting is recalling all the things in the past years of his life that was very interesting,, The GMC truck was absolutely gorgeous ... you could tell he kept up his equipment like it should be. The town and country side is my kind of scenery .. would really like to live there. Great video .. thanks for sharing.
Theres another great talent that soon will leave us and none to replace him or few in our world if any left.I would love to live there.I am like him but feel very alone in this world more and more day to day.
Little known fact about gasification, they produce bio crude as a waste product. Bio crude can be refined into a liquid fuel in an extension of the gasification process, usable in gasoline engines.
Kudos to the man for maintaining such historic artifact in running state. Please pass on the knowledge and history as you did in this video for future generations. When the gasifier is done with, try to have it rebuilt to like-new specs (by reusing most of the components). I'm certain some machinists would give you their time just for the heck of it.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I hope the man in the video is still fit and well. VERY interesting fellow. VERY interesting content. Thanks again. Hello from Yorkshire UK. Cheers, Norman.
+grapsorz - Not quit right. I am sorry. Yes this is Norwegian and it is in Faleide in Stryn in Sogn og Fjordane. It is a very nice truck and a very nice owner and driver. storfjorden.no/asite/images/SAKpost/pdf/2007-1.pdf
My American ears heard a few words that sounded close to how my great grandmother used to speak and with English, they made sense much easier than more modern Norwegian.
Very interesting and perhaps makes the link that General Motors had by building for the German military up to1942. Then as the shortage of fuel came in the last few years, Germany even tried woodgas for tanks.
this is used on petrol engines not diesel. this is an old design engine without a catalytic converter so it's not so good for the ozon layer as it is a WW2 design.. STIL it's better then the same engine running on petrol. if you make this as a modern engine it is one of the best emissions out there. just as LPG etc. the situation is the same on the diesel side. you need a modern design to make it run rely clean. you can forget VWO on a modern engine.
"HEY GRAPSORZ" This guy is a benefit to "Austria" kinda looks like that place ? It's too bad our planet won't use his advise & repurpose wasted wood instead of just letting it rot THANKS-4-GOOD-VIDEO (sir)
"hey grapsortz" I believe that ALL other countries could learn from Norway , because they dont try to police OR control the word , instead they use common sense & keep old stuff nice & we dont here in KC.MO( USA)
this truck is made to be like a typical truck was in WW2 when "all" civilian transport had to use alternative fuels. so this gasifier is from the 40's.
Chad Simmons I actually would love to build an efficient system like this for one of my trucks. And your right. I live and am from just outside the KC metro/MO side
As an American, I understood him perfectly well the first time. However, my volume was turned down and I was using subtitles. After seeing some of the comments, I turned the volume up and I still needed the subtitles. I find I need to do this with French, German and Spanish as well. About 25 years ago I was in the UK and realized that English is not really what language I speak since I'm from the Appalachian mountains. Then I was in Germany and everyone I met in Germany speaks better English than me. Whenever I opened my mouth they would raise one eyebrow and say, "West Virginia"? That's it, I'm never going anywhere ever again!
BRASIL - At the beginning, I thought this man where from south Brazil because of his cap and he speaks a language that reminds me of German but I understand just 30 % of what he speaks. For sure it's some kind of old German language and he is not in Brazil those buildings probably are from a European country.
Great video!! And is there anyone who knows where to get blueprints for a working design? I really would like to build one with modern stainless steel This to integrate into my house solar, battery ,generator system for Long Norwegian winters!
Imagine the fuel savings if gasifiers replaced the diesel in locomotives. It would work considering the engines are merely generators powering battery banks.
The thing about it is is it's easier to convert to run syngas in an old truck like that then it is to run it in the new trucks with the computers in the f****** all the little parts in there to have to measure oxygen and all that s*** like your oxygen sensor is not going to measure outright with send gas in it so it will run like s*** so if you get ahold of an old truck with a straight-six in it and hook it up on their you've run all over the country on nothing but would you pick up on the side of the road the older and the dryer the woods the better off you are so it doesn't have water in it all wood has water in it the longer it sits them dryer he gets the better it burns the cleaner to fuel you don't need all that stuff in that water and any trees that have just been cut down are the worst because they're full of tar and waterthat doesn't hurt your motor until you shut it down and it cools off and then when your motor cools off all that Target hard and then when you try to start your engine again it won't start because the valves are froze clothes or froze open from all the target dried up inside of there like you said you got to clean your engine if you get too dirty of a fuel if you get any color flames at that is not blue don't start your truck wait till you have a blue flame do you know it's clean these guys who started these generators in there smoke still coming out of the damn exhaust then you know it's dirty don't start your engine those guys do there just ruining their motors
it's not that hard to do a EFI petrol engine. there is more then one done. the problem is the RPM they r made to work under. modern engines is made to work under higher rpm. you want to have cruse and top speed at 1500-2800rpm. so you need a long stroke engine.
The subtitles read like they were written by a ten year old with a learning disability. Plenty of incorrect usages and spellings. Still, the author's English is better than my nonexistent Norwegian.

How large is your gasifier? How much power does it produce per pound of wood through the gasifier-generator?

Totally awesome. It would be great to rebuild that imbert gasifier.
I'd build it out of Stainless next time & use the original as a template.

So you are better off building most of the things out of materials that won't rust, ever. Is brass a possible solution to avoid internal rust?
today we have staleness.. brass will have problems with the heat.

how many miles could work with a single charge? i saw that technology here too during second world war
i dont know. stil filling it up is not a problem. i see there is other videos on youtube talking about this
roughly 1.25 miles/pound of wood. with the wayne imbert downdraft style gasifier
