my dumbass heard “I die without a son” as if this song was about some viking or sumn who couldn’t have a son and felt disgraced no one in his bloodline would take the throne or something like that
There are two types of a bands fans; - one that wants the band to sound exactly like their favourite album from the past and moans about changing their sound. - one that wants a band to progress their sound and not play safe with older sounds and moans when bands revert to old sounds instead of taking risks and progressing What Trivium have done with this album i didn’t think was possible. They have managed to satisfy both of these types of fans and on top of that, deliver what can only be described as a powerhouse of an album that is fantastic from start to finish. Well done guys
@Big Homie Steve The Metal Head to be fair there is a 3rd type of fan and it seems like you and me fall into it. If I liked one album by a band, I’ll give every album they release a chance, regardless of how much I liked their previous. I go in with no preconceptions and no desire of what I want it to sound like. Nihil new album I agree with you, first time I heard Where the Owls, my mind was blown, I found The Work boring as hell.
I have a slightly different take on that as I feel that first group you refer to there is usually very miscatergorized. Think of it this way- writing music that is significantly above average is very very very very hard, very few people can do that. You can teach anyone to write average music, but even very talented musicians usually cant write more than average....you could ask 100,000 musicians to write 10 songs each and of that maybe 1 or 2 of them would produce something better than average....that is how hard it is to rise above that level...and even musicians who do rise above it for an album can often fail at ever doing so again, it's a delicate balance on a needles edge. So when a band manages to produce a really great album that leaps past that level (as trivium did with ascendancy) its extremely impressive, 1 in a million... but of no guarantee that if they were to completely 180 on that style they will be able to replicate that success at being more than average, that's very unlikely, it's a huge roll of the dice that 90% of bands fail at...and I feel with say the crusade trivium failed at that, I love 80's thrash, they tried to make an 80's thrash album....it was a below average 80's thrash album, they left behind the style they were above average at and tried something they just didnt have the right set of skills to write at the same level of as ascendancy for. People didnt dislike it because they hate 80's thrash or because they hate bands changing...it was because this was not a style they had the same level of skill at making. There are loads of 80's thrash albums that do that sound far far far better than the crusade, there were no albums that did the ascendancy sound as well as trivium...so the crusade ultimately felt pointless. I think this applies to most bands who change and get abandoned by part of their fanbase, it's not necessarily that their fans only want to hear one thing, I'm sure most people have many many different bands they like....its that most bands are only good at writing one thing and are average at others...and why would you want to listen to an average version of a style you could hear a better interpretation of elsewhere? I'd say Trivium struck gold again with shogun, but in waves was bang on average metalcore, vengeance falls was (to me) below average, silence in the snow was average/possibly below, the following 3 were largely going back to the shogun sound and were thus decent...because it's what trivium are good at. There is not a single song on this album that would sound out of place on shogun, it is that sound again and that's great because they're fantastic at it. It's where their talent lies. If after this they wanna completely change and become a black metal band it's their right and I'd understand it....but I'd also very much doubt it would be above average- not because they're bad musicians...theyre phenomenal musicians, it's just a very hard thing to do and they've found the niche they're good at. Most people cant even do one sound above average, very few can do multiple, very very very few can pull off changing sounds each album and have each being above average.
I’m not too picky when bands change their sound or keep their old sound, I just care that the sound is good and the boys have ensured that it sounds beyond good. It sounds incredible.
Now im not Rolling stone or anything.. but this song is a solid 10/10. Whole album is 120/100. Trivium #1. Honestly feel bad not everyone has had their ears experience these bangers.
I can hear every trivium fan losing their minds over this song. It has the chugging and riffs of ascendancy, the ferociousness and progressiveness of Shogun and Crusade! Simply amazing!
I can't even put into words how this damn song makes me feel. I swear that having Ascendancy gave me the best childhood anyone could ever ask for. My entire life was football, Halo 2-3 and Ascendancy haha. Fucking hell this song takes me back.
Ascendancy has always been my favorite Trivium album, it was my very first Trivium album. This song literally flashed me back to when I first heard it, sitting on my bed with a stupid grin from one ear to the other. It's safe to say that this has put the exact same stupid grin on my face. This album is incredible, and I'm not even all the way through it yet
Damn. This album has the sound of the last 2 albums but draws more inspiration from records before them. And it's got even some new things. Just awesome.
They've really topped themselves again with this album didn't they? This song sounds like it could've come straight out of Ascendancy just like The Defiant did for the last album and I think it's fucking incredible since Ascendancy is a very close second in my top 3 Trivium albums behind Shogun and after In Waves. I thought What The Dead Men Say was their best album since Shogun, but this has now taken the crown in my opinion and it just proves why Trivium is easily one of the best modern metal bands of the last 20+ years still going strong today.
exactly my thoughts, this is their best work since shogun. I never thought my favorite band would hit that peak again, but leave it to them to shock me.
@@tinobenfante7315 id hate to know what u consider good then 😆..nah..only the first 2 where good..not great and fever was ..um OK..but they'd been awful since
Exactly, and to be honest it's not the only time on this album that riffs sound a little bit too familiar. The whole intro of Like A Sword Over Damocles sounds like a patchwork of TSATS and Shogun riffs :D
I have loved trivium since ascendancy, even got a tattoo on my arm because they are the band that got me to play guitar in the first place, and even though some of their albums have disappointed me, this song is one of the best that they've ever made hand down
Trivium, if you can see this message, I want you to know that your music has gotten me through the roughest of times……..and right now being the most difficult and challenging times in my life, I want you to know that I feel every word of your lyrics. I don’t know what pain we have all endured, and I don’t know what story we have to tell, but I can quite honestly tell you that your band knows how to write those heart wrenching, emotional, meaningful, DEEP deep musical pieces. I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for me in my time of need. When there is no shoulder to cry on, and the people I can turn to cannot help me, I turn to music. Rock on, my brothers. “Captive in their stare Deafening, their voices heard Anomie, broken by their words!” The most devastating and relevant lyrics to ever grace my ears at this current time. Idk how you feel about me saying this, but God bless you guys!
Okay I know everyone here is referencing Ascendancy, but more specifically it feels like DECLARATION from Ascendancy gave birth to this song after growing and maturing over a decade. I LOVE THIS! This album competes with Shogun as Triviums greatest album. In The Court of The Dragon can go toe to toe with Shogun, thank you Trivium for this masterpiece of an album 🙏🏾
nah, this is much closer to the Ascendancy title track than it is to Declaration. If you swap the vocals (verse and chorus) of this and Ascendancy, both will literally fit like a glove to each other's instrumentals. The only thing that Declaration has in common with this is that they're on the same key along with Ascendancy title track, Prometheus, The Deceived and Detonation.
My father had a severe stroke one week before this album came out. I was angry, sad, and outwardly emotionless unless something tugged at my strings. The album as a whole (this song especially) helped me gain the strength to carry on as I needed to throughout the whole ordeal. I will forever be thankful to the current members of Trivium for putting out such an amazing album. It is a true return to form, combined with everything else they have released over the past 10+ years. This is the purest form of metal.
The pre-chorus sounds like the pre-chorus of Ascendancy the song. And then the chorus sounds more like a Crusade/Shogun chorus. This is f*cking amazing.
If we ever wanted Ascendancy mixed with Suffocating Sight, then we finally got it! Matt's screaming in this song is VERY AND I MEAN VERY reminiscent to Ember To Inferno and Ascendancy both! I'm wondering if he did that on purpose lol!
Every album post Ascendency, every song I have listened to, not one I thought, wow this is better than “Pull Harder” but this song, is my absolute favorite Trivium song of all time, hands town.
I'm listening to the new album on Spotify right now, I just hopped over to comment, I've been with you guys since Ascendency, the way I came across you guy's is actually hilarious, I've played guitar for years, and had a song that my buddies and I wrote that's similar to the main riff from Gunshot, my other buddy stole said riff trying to impress some girl, and came back saying who the hell is Trivium? I looked you guys up and I've been listening since, anyways, the point of this whole thing, the first time I heard Alex I was completely blown away, this isn't meant to be critical, but the drummer's you guys had between Travis and Alex, the chemistry just wasn't there, but the second I heard The Sin and the Sentence, you could completely tell it was back, and that's not to say the material from In Waves to Silence in the Snow was not good, you guy's were still killing it, but the last three albums have consecutively improved and every time I think it can't get better, the next single drops and kicks me in the teeth in the most fantastic way.
So Orbit CULTURE released songs Poor Stacy just released songs few minutes ago AND NOW TRIVIUM SAME DAY HOW IS IT POSSIBLE !? ITS CHRISTMAS I expect Slipknot to drop an album soon too
Alex's drum fills are awesome. Love all of Matt's vocals in this one. That build up was fantastic i just wish there was 1 more big solo to top it off but overall very good song 👍
This song makes me want the next album to be called "The Ascended" and make it a mature-sounding Ascendency album with songs like this. Kind of like the Pillars of Serpents re-recording for 2019.
I feel like a teenager again getting geeked over the new Trivium record. They've already outdone Metallica and released their 10th album now and it's the best thing they've done yet. I'm speechless with a mix of awe and nostalgia. They still feel like a new band because idk what to expect from them lol.

Trivium are such a unique band , like a cross between killswitch engage, DragonForce ,disturbed ,muse, five finger death punch, slipknot, lamb of God n machinehead all in one!
They don't really sound like Disturbed at all. While I do like a few Disturbed albums, Disturbed is a little more basic compared to Trivium. That being said, Shogun by Trivium, and Ten Thousand Fists by Disturbed are 2 of my favorite albums ever
This song is like Ascendancy with a side of Shogun and some Crusade sprinkled on top I love it🔥🤘

Evil beyond comprehension
Bringing forth thе ending of all man
Captive in their stare
Deafening, their voices heard
Anomie, broken by their words
[Pre-Chorus]
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun

Time will betray (Take me)
Under skies that we age (Betray me)
I lie and wait for them to the open gates

Waiting for all of it to fall
Waiting for all of it to fall
Waiting for all of it to fall
Waiting for all of it to fall

Definitely getting Ascendancy vibes, just as The Defiant was for WTDMS. Cool to include some classic Trivium roots.
the verse and chorus are literally Ascendancy title track with the same structure and tuning but a modified chord progression
The Defiant of WTDMS was if In Waves and Ascendancy had a baby
I can totally hear that in this track. I was thinking Shogun in the others!
The riffs are pretty similar. The down-down-up-down picking pattern gives it that Ascendancy sound, same goes for The Defiant as you said

Holy shit guys! This sounds like a crossover song from ascendancy to the present time. This is like a timetravel with multiple stops. Love it!
Welcome to the multiverse
This might literally be the best trivium song ever, also I just noticed the last chorus is in a higher key.
Trivium has reached peak form ❤
Love the ascendancy sound!!!
I think I fell asleep and woke up in 2005!! Trivium back to their roots!!
Ascendency with a hint of the sin and the sentence, goat worthy song!! 🐐🔥
Fav track off the album
I was already enjoying this song but when 3:30 hit, my soul ascended from my body
"ascended" I see what you did there.
This is my favorite metal song of all time.
Can we talk about how much of a monster chorus this is?! And yes the whole rest of the song is I know..
Best song on the album by far. Screams Ascendancy. I am blown away by this Album. Fairplay boys🤘
This song has some crazy Ascendancy vibes.
This dude loves singing the words “Time” “Will” and “not” lol
He is a philosopher lol
1:28 - "praying for the ending of Alan."
Poor Alan 😞
This and the Phalanx are my favorite songs on this amazing album
Probably the best song Trivium has ever made - even above Ascendancy level to be honest.
This Song is So Metal it Just Saved My 2021!!
Edit: Thank you Trivium for that Great Album, Lot's of Gems in there!!!

Corey Taylor said slipknot is dropping new stuff next month or so
@@yoryibs8944 THIS IS FUCKING XHRISTMAS !!! LETS GOOOOO
Trivium makes Slipknot look like a bunch of kids.
I think that this is one of best metal song on the history of music
I kinda missed the last album, didn't rly give it a chance. But this album is truly Trivium that i know and love and more
Alex's drum fills are awesome.
Love all of Matt's vocals in this one.
That build up was fantastic i just wish there was 1 more big solo to top it off but overall very good song 👍
3:27 man, close your eyes and just listen
F. Beautiful. Back to the beginnings
As of now best song on the album for me!
Вот этот трек мега качевый. Спасибо Тривиум что радуете новыми треками!
очень похож на Ascendancy
Jesus Christ is that bass tapping? Paolo undefeated
Underrated
Alex bent is an octopus 🔥🔥🔥
This album may have become my favorite from them. The singles were epic but the rest of the album is on a whole other level
The new drummer seriously needs to be considered in the same ranks as Dave Lombardo, Mike Portnoy etc.
OMG!!! This song smaaash! Old compositions by Trivium roots, melodic parts made my day!
sounding better than ever!!!
This song makes me want the next album to be called "The Ascended" and make it a mature-sounding Ascendency album with songs like this. Kind of like the Pillars of Serpents re-recording for 2019.
Wow! Those last 2 minutes! Incredible
I feel like a teenager again getting geeked over the new Trivium record. They've already outdone Metallica and released their 10th album now and it's the best thing they've done yet. I'm speechless with a mix of awe and nostalgia. They still feel like a new band because idk what to expect from them lol.
WE NEED A METALLICA AND TRIVIUM TOUR IN 2022!!! TAKE ALL MY MONEY!!!!
What an absolute monster of a track, the rest of this album is gonna be great
Banished immortal
Deformed out of recognition
Everything believed in was dead
Floundered in the void
Suffering the constant scourge
Cursed to walk alone amongst the stars
[Pre-Chorus]
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
[Chorus]
Time will betray (Take me)
Under skies that we age (Betray me)
I lie and wait for them to open the gates
Take me
[Verse 2]
Old ones now emergе
Evil beyond comprehension
Bringing forth thе ending of all man
Captive in their stare
Deafening, their voices heard
Anomie, broken by their words
[Pre-Chorus]
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
[Chorus]
Time will betray (Take me)
Under skies that we age (Betray me)
I lie and wait for them to the open gates
Take me
[Bridge]
Waiting for all of it to fall
Waiting for all of it to fall
Waiting for all of it to fall
Waiting for all of it to fall
[Verse 3]
Banished immortal
Deformed out of recognition
Everything believed in was dead
Floundered in the void
Suffering the constant scourge
Cursed to walk alone amongst the stars
[Pre-Chorus]
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
A crisis of revelation
A dawn without a sun
[Chorus]
Time will betray (Take me)
Under skies that we age (Betray me)
I lie and wait for them to open the gates
Take me
Time will betray (Take me)
Under skies that we age (Betray me)
I lie and wait for them to open the gates
Take me.
That being said, Shogun by Trivium, and Ten Thousand Fists by Disturbed are 2 of my favorite albums ever
i love this, its like old school trivium!!!!
This gives me ember to inferno vibes and I love it this song sounds amazing best song
