Documentary filmmaker Erik Anders Lang takes viewers on a tour around the globe searching for the craziest, most intriguing stories in golf. In this episode, Erik visits Mumbai in search of what the locals eloquently call “Slum Golf.” The adventure includes the construction of a slum stick, Erik behind the wheel of a tuk-tuk and an impromptu game of chess against a local.

I think your price is not in line with the rest of callaways models. It’s hand made. And takes men hours of work. It’s also custom to your size, weight and swing. Comes with custom grips. And it’s all done, while you wait. $350, that’s cheap. I was thinking more like $750.

These guys are caddies at the golf club, Suresh has actually carried my bag a few times, great to see them being appreciated here. Every week the club is closed for maintenance for a day, and so they let caddies play on the course. In India caddies earn around 500-700 rupees a round (18 holes) which is about 8 dollars.
That's good to know... I was kinda sad thinking these guys love golf and probably never seen a real golf course but that's good news

I appreciate this sentiment but maybe you would be surprised by how happy he is. I mean I dunno him obviously but I spent 2 years in the slums of El Salvador and although life was hard there for the locals, they were truly happy.

It really does. It goes back to the childhood imagination of competing. Pretty much anything can become a game. Its only when everyone plays, that it becomes a really fun game. When everyone is in on it, its wonderful and becomes real. Thats how the sports of the future are made.

I was like maybe 9-10 when these Indian guys use to live across my street and I always played ball with them but one of them played golf with me it was basically slum golf idk how we ever got to the idea of playing golf but we would go for hours playing mini golf in my backyard we would use and extended garden hose nozzle for the putter and some old golf ball I once found. :’) good times

Man, this was so awesome! it reminded me when I was a kid my brother and sisters and I would use an old curtain rod that we twisted at the end to make a club and dug a hole to make our shots. I remember making a hole in one!

Rikshaws (tuktuks) in India are sooooo fun to ride with lol especially with a driver who knows how to go fast and crazy (probably brings up my chances of dying by around 50% but oh well)

My cousin and I always compete in golf, whether it’s a nice course in Bandon, or a local muni course, a par three course or whatever. On our backpack trips, we would rig up a course around camp, roll up a sock for a ball, grab the best stick you can find and off you go. Doesn’t matter where, or when, just that I’m going to kick his ass or he’s going to kick mine. Golf is whatever you make it. For us? It’s the competition and a ton of fun
