  • 23 years ago today, broadcaster Jill Dando arrived back at her London home and was shot on her doorstep. The murder, in broad daylight, of one of the nation's most loved television personalities shocked the entire county. To this day - just what happened that morning remains a mystery. The crime unsolved. Her killer never held to justice. It's a story we remember all too well, and one that investigative journalist Mark Williams-Thomas has followed for more than two decades. And he joins us in the studio to reveal his theories on just who killed Jill Dando.

Thats still unsolved ,isn't it?Read my comment at the top of comments-IF the killer was INSIDE Jills house ,waiting for her or just up to no good ,in some other way,HOW did they get in? I just don't buy the fact that Jill could walk 20 yards from her car and not notice someone hanging around and being surprised from behind within seconds of walking up her pathway..Possibility of an ex bf/neighbour/friend/relative having access to a spare key or getting a copy made letting themselves in to lay in wait......All leads to follow up on for the Police?

M W-T says that the police didn't speak to someone who "organises hits". What could the police have done? There were no grounds to arrest him, but, in any case, such a person would hardly be likely to admit to anything. And if he didn't carry out "hits", but just organised them, he wouldn't need an alibi.
He also talks about allegiances changing over time. However, even if someone implicates someone else, the police would still have to prove guilt.

MWT is on about Kenneth Noye isn't he? One of the witnesses that gave evidence against him in his trial was assassinated a few months later. Feels a huge stretch he'd target Jill Dando but you never know with someone as dangerous as that.

@@christopherevans4101 Thanks. It hadn't occurred to me that he was talking about KN. If so, talking to him would not have got the police anywhere. He would hardly have cooperated with the police. (KN was extradited from Spain to the UK in May 1999, the month after Jill Dando was killed. So KN had an alibi for himself.)

Barry George wouldn't have had the sophistication of a professional assassin that was a requirement to execute Dando in the way that she was.

Barry George did it. Anyone who says hitman. Nonsense. They have a book or documentary to sell. Like that ex-policeman. What hitman doesn't have a getaway car?! She was at her door about to turn the key lock to open the door. The killer then struck. A hitman would surely have pushed their victim inside at that moment then closed the door to muffle any sound. BG was stalking her. He regularly stalked women. He would walk behind them and try to engage them in conversation. The police knew this. Because for a year they were secretly recording him. Immediately after the time of her killing. Barry George was seen in a local community center in a very agitated state. The two people who worked there later called the police as they had their suspicions. It was a plan by him to have a alibi. Three years before. He was arrested in the grounds of Kensington Palace. In his bag the police found a knife, a balaclava facemask, abseiling equipment and what he said was a poem he had written. 2 weeks before she was killed. There was numerous accounts of people seeing a man in a suit waiting around the streets near to her home. I believe he was waiting for her. With the gun on him. She lived with her boyfriend in a place in Chiswick at the time. So she didn't visit the Fulham house often. Hence why he had to wait at the end of her road waiting for her. Look at the photofit of the man the witness saw immediately after. Its a carbon copy of BG! He was lucky. There was no CCTV. There only a very tiny shred of DNA and the crime scene was heavily compromised by the medics.
