As always, thanks for your videos. I just use Frosted Flakes type cereal. Pour a bunch in a baggie and then crush it, add water slowly and work it into to cereal until it gets that thick, sticky, consistency and you’re done. Dime sized ball of the mix on your hook about two feet under a sliding sinker. Plop it in the water and you’re done. To attract carp I use a small can of cream corn. Tie piece of string on the can about 25 ft long, use a can opener to punch 2 holes in the top and flip the can secured with the string into the area you’ll fish . Drop the bait ball around where the can is and hang on. Easy peasey.
Ontario Canada here, Lake Ontario & Erie where we have big carp over 30 lbs. Sometimes I just put corn on a hair rig with a sliding egg weight or use corn puffs or cheerios cereal which float and become very soft in water in a few minutes. I tie 2 cheerios together with string & put the hook through the string . Corn puffs were better but they are no longer sold in the stores here. I have used pack baits with oats and cream corn. I remember reading an article in a 1960's Fur, Fish, and Game magazine about when and why carp were imported to the US. If I'm remembering correctly after 60 some years, in the 1890's they were considered a fine game fish and excellent eating. When Congress imported them from Europe, the first load was lost in a storm at sea. They wanted them enough that another order was placed which made it here. When I was a boy a bunch of friends went fishing and one of the mothers offered to cook them for us. There was one carp among the panfish, and everyone of us said the carp was the best. Because they are one of the fish that can tolerate a higher degree of pollution, people associate them with filthy water and look at them with the disgust they should be saving for the species that polluted nearly every body of water. Great video - I'm going fishing again!

I hooked a 31lb common carp this spring and it took 5 hours to get him in on my bait combo with 6lb test. Went to get some bait and ended the day with a PB and the hardest fish fight of my life. Talk about fun!
This is my favorite video that you have made! thank you for showing people how to properly handle carp and using an unhooking cradle and how fun carp are to catch. Carp grow to be huge and are a great fight.
They're invasive like starlings and house sparrows and iguanas and most of the exotic fish in Florida. They don't have many natural predators when they get big and mostly are left unchecked to over populate.
That’s close to the carp dough that I always used, except I never used a blender on anything, I just mixed it up with my hands and that works. But I used canned sweet potatoes, cheap bran flakes ( cereal), or Wheaties if you want, and you can put wheat germ in it too if you want but it’s not necessary, just the sweet potatoes and bran flakes works real good! It’s a sticky dough, oh yeah I drain the canned sweet potatoes but save the juice, you may need a little of it. But I’ve caught a lot of carp, everywhere, on that dough and big carp too! And, you don’t need a method feeder or a special hook, all I used is #4 or #6 treble hook or a #2 or #1 eagle claw bait holder hook, you can probably go a little smaller on that hook but I just dough that bait around my hook and not a real big dough either, just about the size of a quarter or half dollar piece, but that doughball will catch carp anywhere and usually channel cat’s too, but you can add canned corn, whole kernel, to that dough and you can still catch carp and for sure channel cats. Channels like anything with corn in it. And bullheads too! I used to fish paylakes a long time ago, for carp, and I’ve won tournaments with that dough! Just the canned sweet potatoes, Wheaties and wheat germ! Oh, I used nothing but mono ( monofilament) and 8 to 12 lb. Anything in between that, if you use braid you don’t have to set the hook very hard but I never cared for braid, always preferred mono over anything and most monos are more abrasion resistant than braid, I don’t know about fluroughcarbon never used any. But good good deal Richard Gene! I love the carp videos
Richard grew up in Texas put 100% bran flakes in a bag used a roller pin to crush them finer then put then in a bowl, add some cinammon and a big red soda pop just enough to make it like a dough. Then make dougn balls they get rubbery , almost can bounce them off the side walk . about the size of almost a nickel. We use a small treble hook , 14 inches of mono then a swivel then a slip sinker above the swivel. Just like you set the line like a sagging clothes line. The treble hooks hold the bait well some actually have a spring on them . Carp fishing is fun.
My father bought me one of those "Pocket Fisherman" rods they advertised on TV back in the 70s. We took it down to Turkey Creek on Ft. Loudon Lake to try it out. I had corn with me. First fish was a carp, of course. Probably about 20 pounds. It took off and instead of stripping drag it stripped the plastic drive gears. Learned a lesson. The people who made it actually fixed that later. You remember that? lol I hope the bond to get you out wasn't too high, Richard. I'm thinking Mama Sue was NOT happy. 😬🎣
Lol, i loved this video. When i lived in ohio, my family took me fishing for carp. They taught me that wheaties were a good cheap bait and do not use hole grain not going to work. But take a rag, put your wheaties in the rag, and dip the rag in the water. And then squeeze it as hard as you can. Get as much water out. If done right, you have a ball. And put on the hook. It worked. I had a family member he used spam.

my uncle and i used to use sweet corn. throw some out the day before your going fishing in that spot, come back the next day same spot and start fishing and have some fun. thanks for sharing your mix with us. more to try out next time i go fishing!
As a kid we did a lot of carp fishing, sometimes for bait sometimes to eat and sometimes for fun. Definitely good fighters. I made my dough bait out of a mix of corn meal, molasses, and flour. I'd grab some cottonwood fuzz and stir that in, those fibers were great for keeping the dough on your hook longer.
Howdy from Texas. Love your videos. I'm definitely going to try your pack bait recipe. I like using Corn for carp as well. But what I like to also use along with the sweet corn. Is the colored miniature marshmallows that you can find very cheap at Walmart. You could just as easily use the regular white miniature marshmallows. But I like to think that those bright colors excite the carp or at least make my bait easier to see. But really the main job of the tiny marshmallow is to float the bait just a couple of inches off the bottom. And the carp really do love marshmallows. Thanks again for all the fishing tips and keep on keeping on. Y'all take care now ya hear.
Love how u use the cradle to hold the fish... I'm an avid carp angler and more often see ppl mis treat such a great fighting fish... thank u for taking care of the fish... great video I might just have to try the yams btw
Carp are tuff too Richard. Our city has a combined sewer system and in the spring we get carp that come through the sewers to our wastewater treatment plant. I take them out of the rolloff box from the bar screens and put them back into the water and they swim away just fine. Sometimes they will be in the box for a hour and still be fine. And they handle all the beating they take when going through the sewers and plant equipment.
I been fishing for carp for about a month or so after finding a method feeder. Wow! I'm hooked!! I can't leave home without one now. There're huge and fight like crazy! Plus they splash alot and makes the other fisherman nearby say "gosh dang." Lol
Hi from Rolla MO 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes. I liked your carp show. Years ago I put 600 baby carp in the pond for the kids to catch. I love grilled carp fillets, salt & pepper covered in butter six minutes on each side and you have a dish fit for A KING.. well fifty years later I've got carp that are long as your legs. They love to eat strawberries mixed up with banana breadalso fermented soy beans & molasses. Love your videos. 👍🎣🤠. Good health for you and your's Dave Hughes 🎣🤠.
Hello I'm a carp fishermen here in AZ and mostly canal fishing.urban style.carps remind me of goliat fish. Not the power comparison but the pattern. When they surface and sees you they dive! Over and over 😅 but yes! Very powerful fish indeed!
Brings back memories to my first ever carp, i was not even targeting them . I wanted some good ol bluegill , and a carp hit it, i had 4lb test line and a ultra light rod. Talk about a fight! 😀
My dad used to spear carp.He never fileted them-he scored them and fried them in half cornmeal with half flour in a cast iron skillet with a bunch of lard in it. He used a straight edge razor to cut about quarter inch thick slices down to the ribs, and when they fry up, the bones are dissolved that most pick out. Sounds kinda crazy explaining it, but try this. A slice of rye bread, dill pickles, and a crispy tail section: killer!
I’ve been mostly following Tom’s advice from “Outdoors with Tom”. I use the old fashioned oats mixed with cream corn and maybe one of those little packages of mixed fruit or diced peaches. Little garlic…. Works well. I use “tiger nuts” for the hook bait. Just landed a 20-pounder Friday…. Tom has a video with 50 different bait mixes he’s used. Bottom line… they all work.
10$ 50 lb bag of shell corn at feed store. Chum a flat 8 ft deep area size of living room for 3 days with 3 gallons spread. Day 4 med gear, 1/2 ounce weight, 3/0 circle hook loaded with canned sweet corn. Ya will wear yourself out on 2 to 40 lb carp.
My good buddy would buy soy bean meal from the feed store and mix it with raspberry jello. Then we heaved them carp out the water. Kept some smaller ones and double filleted them , dipped in corn meal and fried. Delicious!
What a blessing to be mobile like that when you up in age. Not calling you old 😅 but "go fishing when you can" is so true because there's people of all ages who wishes they could get out there under their own power.
Hey Richard, I just want to let you know I really enjoyed this video. Hey man, keep them coming! With your outreach, I think you can really change the attitude of the American fisherman about carp. I love it! I'm going carp fishing. Show us more ways to catch em.
Lord I love fishing for them it’s so much fun
And they handle all the beating they take when going through the sewers and plant equipment.
gene does it all!
More carp videos please; areas to set up; is baiting worthwhile, etc.
Wooo that look like it was fun.. 👍👍👍👍 Stay safe and Keep’em coming

Thank you for the video. I’ve been wanting to fish for carp to have a bit of fun and this video showed an easy way.
Richard Gene the fishing machine, I’m talking about WWOOOooooooooooooooo
Hello I'm a carp fishermen here in AZ and mostly canal fishing.urban style.carps remind me of goliat fish. Not the power comparison but the pattern. When they surface and sees you they dive! Over and over 😅 but yes! Very powerful fish indeed!
I thought that looked like Victor's boat! Two of my favorite fishing buddies! Thanks so much to both of you for the best fishing videos on TH-cam!
Love it Richard, please make lots more carp videos. Been wishing for a while one of the channels i watch would do some carp videos
My good buddy would buy soy bean meal from the feed store and mix it with raspberry jello. Then we heaved them carp out the water. Kept some smaller ones and double filleted them , dipped in corn meal and fried. Delicious!
Loved the video. Carp
Are the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever hooked in too. Thank you for sharing your technique and look forward to the next one.
I know I would love to catch more carp, and you have a way of bringing information that is simple and easy to understand.
Hi Mr. Richard. Thank you for another great teaching segment. I have never targeted Carp, but will give it a try now. God bless.
Always enjoy the videos you make!
Awesome video, I love carp fishing! It's almost the only type of fishing i do here in Indiana now. And what you said is very true! Carp are some awesome fighting sport fish!
