I would add Triton to the list as well. They are guardians of the deep..one could go too far and end up hunting those aberrations that pour forth from the plane of water. Besides they get a +1 to str and con :)
Well I think the closest your ever going to get as a character who works with guns is the artificer subclass I dont think they want to put guns in main D&D but who knows they might put bloodhunter into a book if they can make a deal with mercer
Then play the [homebrew] blood hunter and gunslinger in the Ravenloft setting if you like. We don't need a new supplement to do that. The blood hunter would likely only be a ranger subclass, anyways, in 5e.
@@allenz7688 why we don't need supplement for that? I like having stuff like that in official books. If you don't, nobody is forcing you to buy and use them either. Some people simply like to have it as approved, balanced official option instead of an homebrew. And overall I'd say having setting books is never a bad thing
@@HellGrimo We don't need a supplement because we already have a rule set. Your group can play it to your hearts content already. Also, the rules, as they are, are fairly complicated and the blood hunter is extremely prone to dying unless coddled by the DM...it would probably come out of play testing a _very_ different character.

In other words we basically need it to be revisioned by Wizards in balanced form that can be released as a book. Your argument basically boils down to you not liking to have a new book. I think the class takes some inspiration from the game bloodbonre as well. I have been playing a blood hunter tortle who was training to be a paladin when his church was as destroyed by a Cthulhu monster. He took the corner of the church and is now using it as a maul style weapon to hunt down monsters.
Mutant Bloodhunters don't actually need to prioritize wisdom like the other subclasses need to since none of their abilities key off it unless you choose blood curses that require a saving throw.
I like some of the themes of the class and did consider making a high elf blood hunter who lives to hunt down fiends. He would be from Myth Drannor and spends his days and nights slaying fiends who roam the woods near the old elven court.

Cheerful murderers are always scary. But hey, if someone doesn't go to an insane extreme of "that guy" edgy characters are just another trope like a lawful paladin, but just like the edgelord the lawful paladin can become a problem player as well.
@@DaxterL that's the problem with edgelords, they always go overboard. They play like lunatic lonewolf that they are jeopardise the party. Lawful or zealots on the otherhand are willing to cooperate as long as they've got their motivations checked or just as long as you don't go against them.

Look point is, problem player is a problem player, but shunning a player just because he wants to play an edgy character is just wrong, there is no other way of putting it. You can make an edgy character that isn't a lonewolf. There are so many ways how to go about edgy. Tragic backstory but optimistic personality? Tragic backstory and stoic personality? Somewhat normal backstory and alright personality, just their powers and mannerisms are unconventional. These are just examples. If a player wants to play a lonewolf, it is technically possible and there is a way how to go about it. Work in session 0 with some players, maybe the lonewolf trusts only this party, so that's why he sticks with them. If a player wants to play a single player game and ruins the fun for everyone, that's when you have a problem. I feel like at this point the word edgy doesn't mean anything honestly.
I'm currently playing a Simic Hybrid/Order of the Lycan. He was experimented on by Ilithid as an infant to create drow/displacer beast soldier. Was saved and raised by the Order, then given the curse of the the werecat. With climbing and grappling appendage traits from Simic and transformation from Lycan, it makes a fun grappler.
Thematically a Warforged Ghostslayer from Thrane (Eberron) sounds pretty awesome. There were warforged created for Thrane towards the end of the last war, it only makes sense that they'd be given magics to deal with the abomination of Karrnath's undead legions.
My bloodhunter was cleric that fell ill one night, and his lover (head priestest of the order) decided to listen to her heart and not her brain. So she made a deal with a demon (turned out to be the God of Eternal Night) and EVERYBODY in the order became a werewolf. EVERYBODY. Good stuff.
Yeah, pretty much anything (race & feat) that increases your max hp is what you want when playing a Blood Hunter. Also don't activate 2 Rites at a time because each activation lowers your max hp.
@@dragonmaster613 yeah cause that's exactly what I said. I was pointing out that the smart play would be to get stuff that would help boost your max hp to somewhat mitigate the hp cost. Otherwise you're not going to last long as a Blood Hunter. Things like "Tough" (2x level when you get it, +2 every level after, net +40 [at level 20] to Max HP), Racial Ability like the Hill Dwarf where you gain +1 HP per Level [+20 total at level 20], "Durable" [whenever you spend 1 HD to regain HP, the minimum total [die role + con] is 2x your Con Mod, so if you have a +4 Con Mod, then anything below a 4 on the HD will automatically be a regain of 8 HP. So you'd really only be rolling the HD to see if you roll a 5-8. If you have a +5 con mod, then you'll always gain at least 10 HP, and rolling to see if you roll a 6, 7 or 8.], etc all go into countering/mitigating the HP cost of running a Blood Hunter.

I've not seen the Last Witchunter, but I've played (and completed) the Witcher 2 & 3, and while it's been awhile, I dont recall Geralt or other characters cutting themselves to fuel magic. THAT seems more inspired by the blood magic system from the Dragon Age series.
The revised blood hunter uses intelligence. I went to check it out recently and found out that there are 2 versions now. The archived one (which this video showcases) and the newest intelligence based one.
I'm in a campaign with a happy go lucky blood hunter ghostslayer, he always had a warm smile and was completely optimistic about everything. A happy blood hunter is fun to have in your game, plus, he rewarded us with extra coins, amount of which was random, if you were with him on if his jobs
I have an aasimar blood hunter and I went the protector aasimar and I also went the order of the ghost slayer I went 5 levels blood hunter and 3 levels in cleric for the most radiant damage and can heal I also worship ilmater. I have a boat and were sailing down the sea of falling stars spreading my religion.
I love you guys, been a big fan for years. I'm kind of bummed these days though because I'm not into the crunchy bits of 5e, so a lot of Nerdarchy videos don't really target my tastes now. For years I've been toying with an idea I call "Curse of Eternity". Just recently having discovered the film you mentioned imagine my surprise when the "Witch Queen" actually used it on "Kaulder".
I went Mark of Shadow Elf from the House Thuranni with a Profound Soul Blood Hunter making my pact with a member of the Undying Court. It has pieced together VERY well in theme and abilities.
Would love to see more homebrew content from this channel hell give us your own classes. I would love my own Nerdarchy goblin subrace/brand new race of goblin.
Kor from Plane Shift Zendikar, Order of the Lycan. You can either punch things or use a bow (Archery Fighting Style, Sharpshooter Feat). If you punch things, you get the bonus to melee damage from Feral Might, as well as a bonus action extra punch. In this case, I'd rock a Ring of Spell Storing with 5 castings of Shield (or 3 Shield, 2 Absorb Elements if facing something like a Dragon with an elemental attack). If you shoot things, I'd rock a Ring of Spell Storing with Holy Weapon to add 2d8 Radiant Damage per hit.
Love this video! Nothing beats Beasthide Shifters for blood hunters in my opinion. The extra temporary hit points and +2 bonus to Con really help shore up the one weakness of the class. Plus, it's just fun to play a Wolverine-like character who can hulk out to be even more beastly, especially if you go Order of the Lycan. PS: Molly would probably still be alive if he'd been a Beasthide. Just saying.
Hey guys, maybe you should have given your tips to Tallesin Jaffe because he portrayed a Tiefling Ghostslayer Blood Hunter in Campaign Two of Critical Role!! Unfortunately, he got killed off by a boss only in episode 26 of that campaign because a blood maledict knocked him unconscious and the boss subsequently killed him!! I believe that if he had played a Hill Dwarf, he might have at least survived a while longer!! Thoughts?!?!
If my dm allows it i use my kobold blood hunter with a handcross bow or pistol based on thd setting. Ranged blood hunter profane soul: hexblade who focuses on spells and abilities that augment their attacks and avoid elemental damage
Well, these days it's Intelligence, not Wisdom, for the spellcasting. Of course, my group doesn't allow it (or Mystic) because it's not Official Wizards of the Coast stuff (Main DM has a "No Homebrew/ Third-Party Material" rule where races and classes are concerned). Now, if there was a book (say, Wildemount 2) that listed Blood Hunter as a Class, and it was indeed Official WotC material, then my DM would, after reading it over, probably allow it.
I already got all the Sourcebook and 1 adventure (mainly for Locathan race stat) on Dnd beyond so I easy can manage my Character + the people in the campaign. I do consider getting the Legendary bundle thanks to $150 off but will have to think about it.
I made a fallen bloodhunter aasimar that damages him self with necrotic damage, and when i was looking at the aasimar traits I realized that they resist necrotic damage. Well in our campaign we made it so that if i do not damage my self enough then I cant damage the enemy in this way so i still habe to take the full damage. But i dont know if I understood it right that u also take the same Kind of damage that u deal
playing a Dhampir ghostslayer 5 bloodhunter 4 fighter (action surge and feat). It's ok. Playing a Human Dragon Mark of the Making divination wizard next which i am more excited about.
I don’t think Firbolg was mentioned, but the pluses to strength and wisdom would be ideal imo. If I ever get to play one, it’d be Order of the Mutant with a hermit/sage background.
Playing a Water Genasi blood hunter of the profane soul, the +2 to Con and +1 to wisdom made him almost too well rounded, 20 con 18 dex and wis and high other stats as well love playing Calico Vivus Liqueur
Personally, while a half-elf can put that floating +1 to any stat, there's really only two stats that make the most sense for them in my opinion: either charisma (to further boost the already high CHA bonus) or constitution (because not many players would say no to higher CON). But that's just me, I'm sure they made it "any stat" for a reason rather than "one or the other" like with Smoke Para-Genasi and DEX or INT.
You cant put the +1 in Charisma, it specifically says any other stat and if it didnt, there would be no reason to pick a different race for charisma casters

@@Mr911superstar actually, now that I think about it, you're wrong when you say there would be no reason to pick another race, especially when you realize the fact that most of the other races come with abilities that benefit a given class as much as the stat increase would, if not more. Sorcerer? Genasi. Better constitution for concentration, elemental resistance and abilities that synergize with that element, and a fire Genasi is more likely to survive a tragic fireball accident than a half-elf, just to name one example. Paladin? Human or Tabaxi. Better Gish potential, better role-play potential for the latter, and Dragonborn also makes the most sense in terms of lore. Warlock? Variant Human (with Magic Initiate as starting feat) all the way. More options is always better than only having one way to attack, especially if you encounter a for resistant to Force damage (which, while rare, is still possible, killer DMs exist after all). Bard? Changelings. Just... Changelings. Become anyone, seduce everything that isn't a god or the Inevitables, be the ultimate performer... They could seduce an entire royal family, in-laws included, if they don't get seen changing appearance. While the race comes with near infinite role-play potential, 9/10 times a bard player will only have one thing on their mind: seduce everything, a task that is much easier if the person you failed to seduce doesn't realize who or what you are, natural ones be damned.
Blood hunter shouldn’t be edgy anymore than a rogue should be a loner who steals from the party. I’d rather have a Mollymauk (rip) than a Geralt in my game thanks.
@@laurence_lookmyr yeah geralt is actually pretty lax for the most part. He also tells damn good jokes. I think people put edgy on him because of the sound of his voice and the stereotypes of witchers.
Idk why people think he's edgy. Sometimes he tries to be and it works in the moment, but his friends just mock him for it later. He's kind of a doofus.
I'm actually surprised Dave didn't pick the Dwarf. Dave always picks the Dwarf. Aside from that, Recent updates to the Blood Hunter class list Intelligence as it's primary 'Ability' stat, not Wisdom
@@Nerdarchy While you're searching for demand, here are my thoughts. Isn't the demand just as much as the demand for this video? Since a large portion of choosing a race was based off needing bonuses to wisdom, doesn't the switch to intelligence mean the demand there was previously for wisdom based races is now put on intelligence? Also, earlier the better since it's still new and people will be looking for content geared towards the updated version. Bonus points for the facts that the proceeds for buying it go towards the Australian wildfires, which need funds sooner rather than later. Also, thanks for the community interaction!

Theme wise they are really cool, stat wise, not at all, the best you can get is +1 to strength/wisdom/Constitution based on your subrace, and as a person that is making a Bloodhunter right now... You REALLY need the stats, mine is a Half-Orc and I am struggling with having strength, Constitution and wisdom at an good number, just a heads up, Bloodhunters are like rangers, you CAN make them strength based, but they really work best using DEX.
Phelyppy Lopes it also comes down to positioning and the order you’re from. I have tons of fun playing a Human Order of the Lycan Bloodhunter who wields a maul. The damage is beautiful!! Especially on crits
Dhampir and Tieflings come to mind. Think Blade and Hellboy. ☺ I originally had a character in mind, as an Oath of Vengeance paladin who's sworn enemy are liches and necromancers, the masters of the monsters that overran his kingdom, and turned him into a puppet to wipe out the rest. He was "freed" when he was defeated, but instead of being slain, his soul was freed from damnation and evil, his body while no longer alive was restored in perfect, eternal preservation(no rot or decay, not stench). So he'd hunt the monstrosities that destroyed his life and those of his people. Now I am thinking more along the lines of Jason Blood(Etrigan of DC), or the Last Witch Hunter, with same enemy as before(undead, necromancers and liches especially), only having made a deal with(or be chosen by)a divine to be an eternal champion, this time as a Blood Hunter.☺
i personally don't like the bloodhunter, it's basically just a "shut up" for the player who wants to play a edgy character, but i really like these guides, thank you my dudes!

I think the shifter is pretty spot on but if I had to choose a different race I would choose a hobgoblin. To me it just fits the idea

My Fallen Assimar Blood Hunter Order of the Lycan was amazing by 10th LV... Especially when he dipped into Hexblade at LV11!

I've not seen the Last Witchunter, but I've played (and completed) the Witcher 2 & 3, and while it's been awhile, I dont recall Geralt or other characters cutting themselves to fuel magic. THAT seems more inspired by the blood magic system from the Dragon Age series.
The revised blood hunter uses intelligence. I went to check it out recently and found out that there are 2 versions now. The archived one (which this video showcases) and the newest intelligence based one.
I'm in a campaign with a happy go lucky blood hunter ghostslayer, he always had a warm smile and was completely optimistic about everything. A happy blood hunter is fun to have in your game, plus, he rewarded us with extra coins, amount of which was random, if you were with him on if his jobs
Two weeks later this guide is out of date. Blood hunter updated and been made so much better. Also now a intelligence class.
For me theme wise Simic Hybrid, especially with the whole Witcher angle its trying to imitate.
I have an aasimar blood hunter and I went the protector aasimar and I also went the order of the ghost slayer I went 5 levels blood hunter and 3 levels in cleric for the most radiant damage and can heal I also worship ilmater. I have a boat and were sailing down the sea of falling stars spreading my religion.
My bloodhunter character hates *all Fey* & disdains magic users.
He's a variant human.

I love you guys, been a big fan for years. I'm kind of bummed these days though because I'm not into the crunchy bits of 5e, so a lot of Nerdarchy videos don't really target my tastes now.
I suspect I'm in the minority on that. Even so, I'd love to hear more from you guys that are less about features and more about running the game (dm911s), spicing up the game, etc.

I went Mark of Shadow Elf from the House Thuranni with a Profound Soul Blood Hunter making my pact with a member of the Undying Court. It has pieced together VERY well in theme and abilities.
Would love to see more homebrew content from this channel hell give us your own classes. I would love my own Nerdarchy goblin subrace/brand new race of goblin.

You can either punch things or use a bow (Archery Fighting Style, Sharpshooter Feat).
If you punch things, you get the bonus to melee damage from Feral Might, as well as a bonus action extra punch. In this case, I'd rock a Ring of Spell Storing with 5 castings of Shield (or 3 Shield, 2 Absorb Elements if facing something like a Dragon with an elemental attack).
If you shoot things, I'd rock a Ring of Spell Storing with Holy Weapon to add 2d8 Radiant Damage per hit.
Love this video! Nothing beats Beasthide Shifters for blood hunters in my opinion. The extra temporary hit points and +2 bonus to Con really help shore up the one weakness of the class. Plus, it's just fun to play a Wolverine-like character who can hulk out to be even more beastly, especially if you go Order of the Lycan. PS: Molly would probably still be alive if he'd been a Beasthide. Just saying.

I played a goliath bloodhunter for a while and realised some aspect of stealth might be needed so I switched my class but it was fun while it lasted
I played a Shadar-Kai Blood Hunter/Druid. My DM let me do the Crimson Rite while in Wild Shape and that was nasty. Haha

Hey guys, maybe you should have given your tips to Tallesin Jaffe because he portrayed a Tiefling Ghostslayer Blood Hunter in Campaign Two of Critical Role!! Unfortunately, he got killed off by a boss only in episode 26 of that campaign because a blood maledict knocked him unconscious and the boss subsequently killed him!! I believe that if he had played a Hill Dwarf, he might have at least survived a while longer!! Thoughts?!?!

If my dm allows it i use my kobold blood hunter with a handcross bow or pistol based on thd setting. Ranged blood hunter profane soul: hexblade who focuses on spells and abilities that augment their attacks and avoid elemental damage

Well, these days it's Intelligence, not Wisdom, for the spellcasting.
Of course, my group doesn't allow it (or Mystic) because it's not Official Wizards of the Coast stuff (Main DM has a "No Homebrew/ Third-Party Material" rule where races and classes are concerned). Now, if there was a book (say, Wildemount 2) that listed Blood Hunter as a Class, and it was indeed Official WotC material, then my DM would, after reading it over, probably allow it.
I already got all the Sourcebook and 1 adventure (mainly for Locathan race stat) on Dnd beyond so I easy can manage my Character + the people in the campaign.
I do consider getting the Legendary bundle thanks to $150 off but will have to think about it.

I made a fallen bloodhunter aasimar that damages him self with necrotic damage, and when i was looking at the aasimar traits I realized that they resist necrotic damage.
Well in our campaign we made it so that if i do not damage my self enough then I cant damage the enemy in this way so i still habe to take the full damage.
But i dont know if I understood it right that u also take the same Kind of damage that u deal
For me duergar are fun for this class.
The answer is always Human (Variant): they are basically the best race for 90/95% of all the classes! (and yes, they are OP!)

playing a Dhampir ghostslayer 5 bloodhunter 4 fighter (action surge and feat). It's ok. Playing a Human Dragon Mark of the Making divination wizard next which i am more excited about.

I don’t think Firbolg was mentioned, but the pluses to strength and wisdom would be ideal imo. If I ever get to play one, it’d be Order of the Mutant with a hermit/sage background.
they did mention it under the Volo's races. Just didn't make their top 3.

Playing a Water Genasi blood hunter of the profane soul, the +2 to Con and +1 to wisdom made him almost too well rounded, 20 con 18 dex and wis and high other stats as well love playing Calico Vivus Liqueur

Personally, while a half-elf can put that floating +1 to any stat, there's really only two stats that make the most sense for them in my opinion: either charisma (to further boost the already high CHA bonus) or constitution (because not many players would say no to higher CON).
But that's just me, I'm sure they made it "any stat" for a reason rather than "one or the other" like with Smoke Para-Genasi and DEX or INT.
You cant put the +1 in Charisma, it specifically says any other stat and if it didnt, there would be no reason to pick a different race for charisma casters
@@Mr911superstar I don't remember it saying that, but I'll take your word for it anyway. Still, CON would be the next best pick for reasons that are obvious.
@@Mr911superstar actually, now that I think about it, you're wrong when you say there would be no reason to pick another race, especially when you realize the fact that most of the other races come with abilities that benefit a given class as much as the stat increase would, if not more.
Sorcerer? Genasi. Better constitution for concentration, elemental resistance and abilities that synergize with that element, and a fire Genasi is more likely to survive a tragic fireball accident than a half-elf, just to name one example.
Paladin? Human or Tabaxi. Better Gish potential, better role-play potential for the latter, and Dragonborn also makes the most sense in terms of lore.
Warlock? Variant Human (with Magic Initiate as starting feat) all the way. More options is always better than only having one way to attack, especially if you encounter a for resistant to Force damage (which, while rare, is still possible, killer DMs exist after all).
Bard? Changelings. Just... Changelings. Become anyone, seduce everything that isn't a god or the Inevitables, be the ultimate performer... They could seduce an entire royal family, in-laws included, if they don't get seen changing appearance. While the race comes with near infinite role-play potential, 9/10 times a bard player will only have one thing on their mind: seduce everything, a task that is much easier if the person you failed to seduce doesn't realize who or what you are, natural ones be damned.
Blood hunter shouldn’t be edgy anymore than a rogue should be a loner who steals from the party.
I’d rather have a Mollymauk (rip) than a Geralt in my game thanks.

@@laurence_lookmyr yeah geralt is actually pretty lax for the most part. He also tells damn good jokes. I think people put edgy on him because of the sound of his voice and the stereotypes of witchers.
Idk why people think he's edgy. Sometimes he tries to be and it works in the moment, but his friends just mock him for it later.
He's kind of a doofus.

@@Nerdarchy While you're searching for demand, here are my thoughts. Isn't the demand just as much as the demand for this video? Since a large portion of choosing a race was based off needing bonuses to wisdom, doesn't the switch to intelligence mean the demand there was previously for wisdom based races is now put on intelligence? Also, earlier the better since it's still new and people will be looking for content geared towards the updated version. Bonus points for the facts that the proceeds for buying it go towards the Australian wildfires, which need funds sooner rather than later.

Theme wise they are really cool, stat wise, not at all, the best you can get is +1 to strength/wisdom/Constitution based on your subrace, and as a person that is making a Bloodhunter right now... You REALLY need the stats, mine is a Half-Orc and I am struggling with having strength, Constitution and wisdom at an good number, just a heads up, Bloodhunters are like rangers, you CAN make them strength based, but they really work best using DEX.
Phelyppy Lopes it also comes down to positioning and the order you’re from. I have tons of fun playing a Human Order of the Lycan Bloodhunter who wields a maul. The damage is beautiful!! Especially on crits

I originally had a character in mind, as an Oath of Vengeance paladin who's sworn enemy are liches and necromancers, the masters of the monsters that overran his kingdom, and turned him into a puppet to wipe out the rest. He was "freed" when he was defeated, but instead of being slain, his soul was freed from damnation and evil, his body while no longer alive was restored in perfect, eternal preservation(no rot or decay, not stench). So he'd hunt the monstrosities that destroyed his life and those of his people.
Now I am thinking more along the lines of Jason Blood(Etrigan of DC), or the Last Witch Hunter, with same enemy as before(undead, necromancers and liches especially), only having made a deal with(or be chosen by)a divine to be an eternal champion, this time as a Blood Hunter.☺
i personally don't like the bloodhunter, it's basically just a "shut up" for the player who wants to play a edgy character, but i really like these guides, thank you my dudes!
