      Look for trends in successful companies e.g. old railway companies, steel industries from the 1800's -1900's. Modern day examples like Google, Apple. The tell tale signs are the same even now. Think about demand! If it's got a low buying price but is growing consistently and showing signs of a possible rapid growth invest in it. Read about JP Morgan too.

      Ibn Canaan Same here! I have kidney failure and had to quit my job in the medical field to go on disability while I wait for a transplant. I am beginning to educate myself about the stock market. I already have a Roth IRA for retirement but I want to start investing and day trading to supplement the $ I am getting from disability (which is less than what I made when I was working). Great introductory video! It all started with early live market trading - selling cattle, corn, vegetables and the like. Buyers and sellers used to meet at the town square and haggle (bargain) prices and deals would take place. Then with industrialization, companies needed to raise money. So they devised a plan to go to the public and sell parts of their company for a dollar amount (not material parts, parts of ownership). This they called "a share" So 1 share is a representation of ownership in a company. For example Facebook, (FB) their initial offering was about $38/- a share when it started trading in May 2012. Then in August 2012, Facebook's share dipped to $19.69. Today March 17, 2017 the single share value is $139.99 Suppose a lady, let's say her name is Helen, aged 62, purchased 100 shares on May 2012 at the Initial Public Offering (IPO) that would have cost her $3800/- She wanted to save for her retirement and thought Facebook would be a good company to invest in by holding on to that stock and see the company's value rise. Today let's say she is 67 years old and wants to sell her stock of 100 shares of FB @ $139.99 per share. Someone (a buyer) unseen through any brokerage will buy it because FB shares are still in demand. (*If FB did not do so well, then there won't be any buyers, so that's the risk you run into trading stocks. The share has to be in demand at the current point of time you decide you want to sell and are looking for a buyer). So she sells it. $139.99 x 100 shares = $13,999/- Her profit: $13,999 - $3,800 = $10,199. No bank will give you this sort of return in just 5 years. Not in your wildest dreams. That is why people clamor after stocks/ shares of good performing companies. Of course, all earnings are subject to Capital Gains tax - Gains you make on selling a stock. (a collection of shares of a single company).

      @@hibakassem1777 Runescape. In the game, their stock market is called the grand exchange. Instead of stocks, the grand exchange sells almost every item of the game because any player can list an item to sell and any player can buy those items. The prices are set not only by the player, but also by the market. So it's a lot like the stock market. And a lot of Runescape players make money from the grand exchange just like the stock market.

      Alex Frumen so does this money just keep growing over time? How do you know when to sell? What if the money could keep growing. For example if my returns or dividends or profit or whatever the correct term is, are a million dollars. Should I wait for it to get bigger or just stop while the going is good? Also how do you know to give up ur share when the market dips? B/c I’ve seen some people say something about sticking it out and then gaining even more in the long run because they waited out the stock market crash instead of panicking and selling immediately and the market bounced back. Pls help, I have so many questions😭

    • @hassankassem2858
      @hassankassem2858 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      blessing B it depends, if you think that the stock value will increase even more, then go ahead, wait it out. But if u think that’s It’s at peak price right now, then sell it now. If you think the stock market is gonna crash long term and it’s super risky to keep a stock, then sell it instantly to get some value out of it before the value decreases a lot. You could also get a stock when the stock market crashes and it’s super cheap and try to wait for it it increase in price after the crash stops, but it’s risky

I thought originally you buy stocks and let them sit but I bought a stock and it went from $1-$5 to $300 profit. It's crazy you literally have to sit there and watch it and guess if it will go up or go down. You could make a lot but could lose a lot.

    I’m a 23 year old from Australia, nobody in my family trades stocks or even knows that it exists, everybody lives day to day life, 9-5. I would like to just know a few things that you might have the knowledge and some answers to it. Before I become the first stock trader or broker in the future.
    Q1. How do you sign up and start finding a stock broker/do you need one at all. Is there such a thing as individual trader where you have full control over picking and choosing by yourself without a team.
    Q2. I’m a full time painter in Melbourne, I have money on the side to play with. How much would you recommend for a beginner to start with and not blow all of his or hers money in the first week of becoming a investor.
    Q3. Is there a book you could recommend me and others to read and get our hands onto it. Like how to read the charts knowing when to buy and sell ect.. when I have completed my homework and studying on the stock.
    Q4 Is it ever to late, better to start younger or older?
    Thank you again, from every video you have posted, I have been learning everyday something new from them after work but how do I know if I’m good or not in the long term of investing. It’s simply easier to quit and give up before we even start.
    Thanks

    Great Video! Learnt a lot from this. Also I had some basic queries as a beginner.
    So the broker is the mediator helping people trade shares, so do brokers first buy shares from the company or is it that the company sells its shares to these brokers directly? And in that case since there are many brokers, are the prices of shares of one company the same everywhere with all the brokers?
    Also what are these companies like NASDAQ? Are they brokers?
    Sorry for asking a lot of questions, any reply would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

    • @chandana3883
      @chandana3883 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understood it this way... you buy the share and the broker just looks for someone who is either in need of a buyer or a seller.

      In some cases, you can get dividends. So, there are only 2 places to make money in the stock market: (1) price increase and selling a stock at a higher price than it was purchased: (2) Or occasionally, a company chooses to give some of its profits to the shareholders in the form of a dividend. Mostly, though, you make money in the stock market by selling at a higher price.

    Thank you for the video, I have two questions about this:
    1. As you said, whether the price increases or decreases depends on different factors. It's still vague who is the one who gives the final decision about how much a share is worth (buyer, seller, or broker)?
    2. Supposed that a company divides it into 10 slices of pizza and the company has already sold out these 10 slices. If it wants to further raise money, what can the company offer in return (since there is no more pizzas)
