this is the best video on ghost notes. usually they'll say ghost notes are difficult to teach as it relies heavily on the drummer's sensibility and feel. But you just explained this where anyone can lock in
I've been metal drumming for most of my drum career and started getting into funk and jazz but really started paying attention to ghost notes because of Gojira and now I'm obsessed with them! Thanks for breaking all this down!
Honestly that is so awesome to hear because that it why I created this system. To help my students stop just randomly throwing ghosts in everywhere. Reach out if you need any extra tips or help 👊
Excellent lesson Dave! I really like the way you move the ghost notes around in the measure. It changes the feel and texture of the grooves. Very well done!
Man this is a really great lesson I have searched and checked out a lot of ghost note videos on TH-cam and none of them are as good as your video. Does the ghost note lessons pack on your website keep expanding on what’s talked about in this video ?
So glad you enjoyed it mate. The Ghost Note Mastery course is all about ostinato 1. Expanding what you can do with it and its usefulness and musicality. Its really fun and unlocks a tonne of the grooves you hear played in songs and in famous grooves.
Awesome. I'm just a beginner drummer. Right now I can get a ghost on the A of 2 and the A of 4. I'm playing on a ekit tho so I'm having issues getting the ghost notes quiet enough.
Youll get there 👊 Patience and consistency. Focus on heights vs volume to make the transition from e kit to real kit seamless. Ghosts should be about 2 fingers from the head.
@@DaveMajor I do have an acoustic set haha. It was the first drum set I bought but I quickly realized I underestimated how damn loud they are lol so I bought an ekit too. I hardly touch the acoustic set anymore. Thanks for the tip

You are welcome! 👊
Gojira is goated
I find myself doing too many thoughtless ghost notes, so this was a nice exercise in giving them some structure.

lol… I seem to play them better when I’m not trying to play them, make sense!?
Dave the good teacher, and free sheet notation, we need more lessons like this.
Thanks mate
This was so helpful and clearly explained - thank you!

I'm so glad you liked it! It's a really fun system to use to get ghost notes down. Especially when you change the hi hat pattern.
Very well explained. Thank you for this lesson
