hey all! I hope you enjoy! I really had a lot of fun doing this. I just want to note I might NOT be the first person in the world cause who knows right? I have never seen a video or anything of a 1 hand completion, hope you enjoy! wooooooooooooo
That was a fun run to watch. I also think the game is so popular and so good that there is a chance at least one and perhaps even a few disabled persons have done this feat before. In any case, kudos!
Well even if you aren't first you're probably the fastest lol. Now it's time to grind that one handed WR! I want to see you beating two copies of Mario 3 simultaneously at the next GDQ lmao.

Considering that there are a lot of one armed/handed gamers out there, it’s pretty safe assume someone has completed the game with one hand.

When I was a kid, I had a neighbor who was shot when he was in junior high and was paralyzed on one side and had a level of brain damage. But I remember watching him play Mario one handed. It was really something to watch. He'd put the controller on his thigh and play while sitting in the floor.

I also had a friend when I was a kid who could only play with one hand as he only had one fully developed arm. I can't say with 100% certainty, but I am fairly sure he beat SMB3.
Still an impressive challenge but I think there are a number of people for whom this feat would be considered 'normal'.

I actually read in Nintendo Power when I was a kid that disabled people play like this all the time. The guy sent in a photo of his brother playing like this. Another guy had no arms and would play with his feet.
brolylegs is a professional fighting game player that plays with his cheek/mouth/tongue because of disability.
yes, its as insane as it sounds and hes really good.

I broke my left arm a couple years back and I ended up playing through SMB1, 3, and even Mario 64 with one hand. Even did a 16-star run on 64 lol
Awesome job! with his skill level, I think he could do much better with a different control grip, like how Niftski holds it in his one handed runs, thumb and using index and middle finger, still impressive anyways.
For old school PC gamers, the only problem with this play style is that the controller needs like 30 more buttons, and there should be a mouse in your other hand.

2:45 Havent played Mario 3 in 25 years but I could swear that the EU version didnt let one pass from the 2-3-4 warp zones directly into world 8 with a single flute. Thats why I always needed to complete world 1 first, then use the first flute to 5-6-7 and then the 2nd flute to world 8.
I still haven't beaten the airship on world 8 with both hands lol.
Mitch, if you watch some of the SMB OneHand speedruns, you can see people use their thumb for the D-Pad, index finger for B, and middle finger for A. But of course, do whatever is comfortable for you!
When I was 13 years old I had a surgery to remove a tumour near my neck and left shoulder, I had lost nearly all mobility on my left hand so I learned to play Super Mario World with my right hand, I got so good at it that I beat my sister on who could beat the game faster, thankfully nowadays I recovered most of my mobility on my left hand so I can play normally.

One of my best friends is one-handed since birth and is a hell of a gamer. Kicks my ass at nearly any fighting game. He's definitely beaten just about every mario game he's put his hand on as well.

Mitch is probably better at smb3 sleep deprived and using his foot and a potato for a controller than I am with both hands and a controller in optimal conditions.
Yo, sick achievement!! I love OneHand challenges. Around 10 years ago I fractured my left arm and ended up clearing Super Meat Boy with just my right hand on an xbox 360 controller. You should really try to do this with your left hand. It might even be easier to position the controller upside-down for that. Good luck if you do try! :D
Hate to say it, but my cousin beat this game with one hand back when it came out. Not only with one hand, but he also only has 3 fingers on that hand.

I played mario games with one hand quite a lot. Never beating the whole game ofcourse. But usually I use 4 fingers to control Mario: index and middle finger for dpad, ring and pinky for ABXY. This way I can quickly turn direction if I need to.

My younger brother lost his hand after a tragic fireworks accident when he was a toddler. We were both huge video game fans and played Mario all the time.
I watched him beat smb3 while we were both pretending to be sick to get out of going to school.
I’m the was the greatest accomplishment I had ever seen!
I was (and still am) so proud of him. He is still a huge inspiration to me all these years later.

I've beaten the Supe Mario Bros 1,2 and 3 myself one handed even Mario Kart Double Dash 150cc All Cup.
It's super impressive because your fingers might hurt slightly while pressing the buttons while using D-Pad.

Today I beat Mario 3, and omg, it was an adrenaline rush. By the time I got to Bowsers castle, I had no items. It was me just trying to get power up’s and hope I can keep them for as long as possible

The lower part of Koopa’s body doesn’t have a hurt box, so Mitch is able to stand at his legs without taking damage. If you have a power-up, you can crouch and also not get hit.
ASCII used to make a one handed controller, but it was for the PS1. I heard it was useful for RPG's like Final Fantasy VII & VIII

Why didn't he take damage from Bowser???!
Bowser only has a hitbox on his top half...idk why, the game was just made that way. When you're small, he can't jump on you at all! And when you're big, you can duck down to avoid damage, too.

Good challenge. Had no idea Mitch also beat this game with the infamous "power glove", but i watched him playing in a frog suit. Wonder if Kosmic has tried single handed yet.
