I've used these sedum tiles extensively in my lawnless yard. Every year I buy another 2 or 3 tiles to add. They root within a week and spread beautifully in no time at all. Very easy care, repress weeds and drought tolerant once established.
I'm growing one of these indoors this winter from a tiny little sedum branch under a grow light ... it grows so fast and looks really cool as it spreads out and grows tiny hair-thin roots and grabs the ground every chance it gets ... a very cool plant to grow
In the back of where we live/work there is an area that has very little soil (when the poured the new cement parking pad and cement walls they left so much debris in the ground. Basically, cement pieces and small rocks. Last year I bought some sedum tiles and dropped them down on the ground thinking I'd get around to scraping away the rocky soil and amending the ground. Well, a year later the sedum tiles seem to have decided they love this soil-less area and are happy and growing. Just two days ago I went out and bought a bunch more to add to the area.
Great style of communicating clearly! I have native wild stonecrop and I was taught that it loves shade, so I’m so excited to watch it fill in around my porch. ❤️ happy planting!
I am so excited, I have the ones that look like green rice on a vine, that have been passed down from my grandmother to my mother to me.... They both had a green thumb so it has looked beautiful for 40+years (in the same pot).as for me not so much.. I've tried looking up how to care for these and never knew their names , ever!! Finally!!
Very informative video - I have been researching sedum plants for quite some time and just need to bite the bullet. Thank you for the video! Bless You~
excellent video! I've been using sedum angelina- absolutely love it. It took about 2 years, but it has slowly filled in an entire bed. Super winter hardy (I'm in zone 6a), very easy to keep controlled, and best of all---extremely easy to propagate. Like you, I want to start minimizing the amount of mulch I use, and this has already allowed me to do that. I'm gradually spreading it around my gardens. Plus, it's really beautiful- throughout each season. Deer leave it alone... rabbits will usually only go after it during the winter.
@@plantvibrations Likewise- I've been learning how to garden with perennials over the past 4 years...sedums are among my most favorite plants! Watching videos like yours really helps! Also, Seven was a godsend this past year!
Hi Devin. I really enjoyed watching, and learning from this video, and I have plans to do this in one of my sun gardens. I think that the succulents look much nicer than just seeing mulch. Thanks for showing us how easy it is to do. Do you have a follow up video to show us the progress of this sedum planting this year? I would love to see how it's doing.
This is excatly what I’m working on right now awesome 👏 likeminded I’ve been looking into the wild sedums in my state and I’ll add in creeping Jenny and my own winter hardy succulents I just love this video
Interesting.. Never seen this CoCo Fiber mat. What a Great idea. How would ajuga as a ground cover (especially the dark bronze leaved variety.) work in your climate ?
The coco fiber mat is actually pretty amazing! i really like them. and yes i have friends with Ajuga, personally i loathe bugleweed, especially the dark black leaf ones, too much darkness for me
Hi! Would this type of sedum harm other plants? I have this variety and would like to add it to a garden bed as ground cover that has alliums, peony’s, and other flowers.
I use the yellow bouquet variety around my maple tree. I dug a circle around the tree. Sprayed a little Wisdom TC to prevent termites. Filled it in with topsoil. Put my sedum in between the roots. Then used clay buster fine mulch. A neighbor down the street did this to his tree and it looked nice, so I copied him. His sedum is a darker green variety. I like the yellow. It's something different.
@@plantvibrations omg I thought you looked/ sounded familiar! How'd I not realize it was you on QVC?! 😄 We bought your sedum mat, violet geraniums, majestic gerber dasies, sky petunias, sunpatiens and solar coreopsis! The mat we bought this year is great, I love it! Zone 6b and still flowering. Wanted to buy more but they sold out. Maybe next spring? 😉
Do you break up the root clusters? Trying to decide on whether or not i should separate mine, before transplanting. I feel like perhaps they would spread better... Thoughts?
Can you plant sedum on flat rock that is large and under ground so what you see is a flat layer of rock. So could I plant sedum on top of it to hide the ugliness of multiple rock in ground
This is what ima working on could we leave lil wholes inbetween the rocks and put the sedum in where the roots touch soil but it can grow on top of the rocks or thru cracks ???
I would add that it's good to spend a few years building up your soil with deep mulch *before* planting ground cover, because it's hard to add organic matter to the soil once ground cover is established. But once you've got rich soil, ground cover is an ideal living mulch.
I have Spanish stonecrop in my front yard. It is not growing evenly - one side is more full and tall than the other, so I was wondering whether I can shape it? As in cut the height of it so it appears more even? Couldn’t find any info on Google, would appreciate advise from the community.
I am near Annapolis, and I have a very tall persimmon tree with no lower branches, I removed all the grass on my tiny 18 x 12 front yard. It is too sunny for vinca minor and woodruff, on the street side, I am hoping that my new flat of mixed sedum will do well in the sun. I was worried about how to divide the mat. (I hate grass lawns) I am moving the woodruff to the shady rear part of the yard near the house.

I love that! That’s exactly how they thrive!

Did you purchase the sedum on line or locally? I’d like to give it a try. TFS! Blessings!😊
Hi Nora! These actually came from my family’s nursery called Robertas Gardens! We do ship all over the country too :)

Nice video. I didn’t see the link for the blue shears. Can you tell me what brand they are, or where you got them?? Thanks!
They are Kuhn!

I do not break up the roots, cutting seems to be enough
@@plantvibrations awesome, thanks so much!
Do you know any good pesticides for sedum angelina removing the white pest which usually destroy this plant?
hmmm maybe safer soap would work
Can you plant sedum on flat rock that is large and under ground so what you see is a flat layer of rock. So could I plant sedum on top of it to hide the ugliness of multiple rock in ground
Hmm if you can provide something for it to grow into then it can probably work!
@@plantvibrations how much dirt do you think I would need to put over the rock a inch? Or more

Those are so beautiful !! Where can I buy the ones you have here? Thank you !
My family is starting to grow more right now. Unfortunately they won’t be ready till next spring! We sell them on qvc.com
@@plantvibrations That's great news ! Thank you so much for your reply .
Do I need to put weed barrier down first? Or does that prevent it from spreading fully?
I’m not a fan of the barriers
Hey just wondering if you have any videos showing how your sedum is doing? About to go out and plant some of my own right now. :)
Hi! Check out my recent video comparing three different groundcovers, you can see the sedum update!

Yeah you can absolutely trim back the side that is growing faster. However it may end up making it grow back even thicker
Hi, I'm in CT zone 6a mid-August, and I'm planting sedum plugs into the mulch. How often do we need to water them to get established?
I’d definitely water them at least once a week depending on rainfall and avg daytime temps!
@@plantvibrations thank you for your prompt reply. I'm new to gardening and finding your channel really helpful 😊🌱 Wish me luck!

I found just ripping it with my hands was the best
Will sedums crowd out Bermuda grass?
Oooh that’ll be a tough fight
Where do you get those flats trays for the coco fiber ?
Robertasgardens.net ! My family’s business
Some Stonecrop varieties are edible as well!
I didn’t know that!
Where can I get these coco mats and the trays?

Great video thank you very much hay will that Sedum stonecrop choke out your other plants?
I’ve never experienced it ‘choking’ out other plants, it’s vigorous but not invasive. It will cover any open soil it finds
Is there a!video update?
Hey! Check my video comparing three great groundcovers and you’ll find the update!
This stuff is awesome. We have a ton of it here in Oregon (Portland), and I think there's even a species that's native to the state.
oooh nice!!! ive been loving watching mine grow since i planted it, i cant wait for a couple seasons down the line, its going to be gorgeous
Will the gophers eat it?
That is one creature that I don’t have on my property, I am not sure!
I've decided your wife is the luckiest woman alive! 😅
😂😂
Cocoa fiber is dangerous for dogs. Looking for some other method. Hearing that I'm out of here.
Interesting. Never heard that before
