    I'll never understand the problem with military time, you literally just have to know how to subtract 12. It's something you learn when you're about 5 years old. It's basically 2nd nature once you are old enough to care what time of day it is, you don't even have to think about it. There are 24 hours in a day.

    Seems that a lot of Americans are conditioned to a 'work more hours, buy more stuff' mentality, whereas most of the UK and Europe have a 'work hard during your contracted hours, then enjoy time with family, friends and seeing the world'.
    We have no shame in driving 20 year old cars, using public transport or not necessarily having the largest television or latest pair of sneakers. Life is about experiences not possessions.

    Over half of the world uses military time especially at airports, train stations, buses etc.
    North America is one of a tiny minority of countries that commercially wash their eggs and this process strips the shell of its natural protective layer thereby needing the eggs to be kept refrigerated; the vast majority of countries don’t wash their eggs and they stay fresh at room temperature for weeks without the need for refrigeration.

    • @AntonyTCurtis
      @AntonyTCurtis 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      The rationale is different for eggs. In the USA, to have cosmetically nice looking eggs in the superstores, they wash them. Meanwhile, the UK and a lot of Europe decided that the way to have cosmetically nice looking eggs in the superstores was to give the chickens nice enough conditions so that they don't get crap on their eggs.

    You dont need to drink alcohol to enjoy socialising at the pub. Many pubs offer free soft drinks for the 'designated' driver these days. Sunday dinner and shops closing early is to enable families to spend time with each other, catching up on news while enjoying a delicious meal, which is often followed with a delicious hot or cold dessert. Rice pudding is a favourite of mine.

    I like her channel a lot & have subscribed to it for a few years 👍. One matter though, we never refer to time keeping as “military time”, instead we talk about the “24-hour clock”, which is very useful when travelling by train or plane, but in daily life we speak using a 12 hour clock, specifying morning or afternoon/evening or perhaps referring to “AM” or “PM” (short for ante/before and post/after meridian/midday), it’s not difficult 😉. A lot of the time it’s not even necessary to specify that, because if you arrange to meet someone at 2 or 4, it’s implicitly understood you’re referring to an afternoon meeting, as it’s unlikely you’ll be meeting so early in the morning. On the other hand if you arrange to meet someone at 8 or 9 etc, it’s probably necessary to specify if you’re talking about the morning or evening.

These are the sort of pubs do mothers day specials so mum does not have to cook sunday dinner. You might celebrate family birthdays there. They might do themed nights. Steak and wine, curry and beer, Quiz nights. Fantasy Football, darts etc. Some pubs have an amateur football or lawn bowling or pool or snooker team. Pubs come in as many different styles. There ard even chains. Like Wetherspoons that are a combination pub and restaurant. Look up the Wetherspoons challenge.

    I was over in Lititz working at Tait Towers , i am from Somerset , cider country , well the local hotel sold cider , so myself and a video guy , an American , sat down and decided to have a quaff of cider , later in the evening the receptionist came into the bar asking if anyone was with this gentleman passed out on the floor in the lobby , Bill had had his fill and was the worse for ware , when he turned up late the next day , he vowed never to go drinking with me again and never to touch that evil drink cider , he had the hangover from hell and was amazed i wasn't in the same condition even though i stayed till last orders . Great town and great people ,

      It is in houses that have enough space for one, it’s just more commonly referred to as the utility room in the UK.

    America is only 300 years old you’re not gonna see a lot of history there like castles and cathedrals

      There’s plenty of history, but they only count the history since Europeans arrived.

      You could say that both Germany and Italy are a lot younger than that. The difference is the US doesn't appreciate 'old'. They tear down and rebuild all the time.
