After mom used all the thread off a wooden spool us kids would thread yarn through it and run around the house for the cats to chase. Wooden worked better than the plastic which were too light. Definitely late 60’s to early 70’s is right on the money for switching. By mid 70’s I would have been to old to get awake running around the house even though I still played with kittens

I'm sure it is because Avon was so abundantly distributed it has low "value" now. I agree, that the powder dish was beautiful and would be wanted by many. I'm sure the low profit margin is the reason they avoid it.

I've been "collecting" wooden spools of all sizes for years, esp. back when no one wanted them. As a quilter/sewist, the thread, if it is still on the spool, is generally not useable as it is subject to " dry rot" over time and will break very easily, so I leave the thread on for the colors, and add it to my vintage punch bowl in my sewing/craft/crap room. I also have a small antique tread cabinet that holds small spools of silk thread. Also have wooden bobbins/shuttles from the Pendleton Woolen Mills in Oregon. Antique/vintage sewing stuff would never be left behind.

My mother was the oldest of 6 kids, had 4 of her own, and she dealt with 2 of my dad's relatives living with us for a while. After her nest was empty, she became a total minimalist. She keeps nothing...zip. First time I saw her toss some very fine decades old Bible School art, I was devastated. At 67 now, I get it. I'm not a minimalist myself, but I do get it. At 84, she does still love to shop for all of us...just no thrifting or yard sales and whatever you do, no "what-not" gifts her for. She'd rather have a Whitman's Sampler and is not afraid to voice that. ✌

agree - it is hard to admit to all the things that have passed through my hands as I grow older...some of which I now miss! I still thrift and check out the sellers online that I trust, but I sit on my hands for the most part during auctions as I do not need more things in my life. So lovely to see the items though and appreciate sellers "saving" them and moving them along to people who appreciate them.

That antique pitcher was so gorgeous I think it would bring a high price, even without the cups. I can't believe you left it behind.

I love the people that reach in front of you, or pass you and try to beat you to the shelves. I can't tell you when I've even heard huffing, its been a while! funny.

Napkin rings...mix & match! It's ok for them to not all be the same--especially when they're as cute as that bunny-ears version. Just keep the general "feel" the same for all placesettings on your tablescape. Also, love the wooden spools. So many DIY projects for those. I did a quick internet search for some, and people are so clever. Plus, I love all things old, wooden, and lovingly repurposed.
