I've decided to keep a pinned comment on things that I'm aware have been changed for the free to play experience since this video was made, and edit it as new things come to my attention. I may eventually do a seperate video on all these if enough changes occur, but until then, I'll compile them here: -Rules determining which enchants can be applied to low level gear have been completely reworked, and many more enchants may be available for you to experiment with -Players starting at level 10 are now able to use Skyriding, and players at level 20 can also swap to static flight, allowing flight for free to play characters -The Warband bank was accessible to free trial characters when it came out, but this has since been nerfed and you can no longer use it to move items across characters on a free account. I’m leaving this here for posterity and the vague hope that they might backpedal this change -Zones, Dungeons, Transmogs from Dragonflight are now available for free to play characters -Evoker is now an available class for free to play -Item levels for gear, in general, has been moved around in many different areas, such as blue gear rising from ilvl 61 to ilvl 84, and the ilvl 87 warforged pieces up to ilvl 89. This could potentially have changed the balance between socketed TBC gear, and warforged WoD gear -Timewalking events are now playable by level 20 characters, and the gear rewards for them are ilvl 96 (or at least they were for classic timewalking), likely making them the new BiS for trial characters
@@weirdosplace the cap is actually unchanged, but for some reason, there's a cap of 999g, 99s, 99c on warbank withdrawals. You can withdraw that from the bank and kill a humanoid npc to get a copper drop to cap it up to 1k
thats the thing, right? the whole f2p environment is untouched by the meta gaming that's ruining the full game so much. Doing something like this gives you a chance to actually explore and figure things out again
Well all the being able to play tbc dungeons and every other expansion at 20 is definitely a game changer especially mixed with gear scaling lol. Used to be very limited to what you could get for gear now it’s crazy how many options there is

I'm active on XPOff as well, so unless you are too I don't think you know more about the 20 community than I do. 20 doesn't have a separate bracket anymore, which is exactly why nobody does 20 free to play anymore you goofball.

It might be easier for you on RP servers, if you're seeking help from players with subscription. TRP lets you put a note on your character, where people will whisper trial accounts if they jump in front of them.
Its a good idea, lots of bored people on the realm, so at least it allows you to communicate on a platform that's active, thus bypassing blizzards restriction and allowing you to seek assistance from other players. Esp to run content you can't solo for year like strat

Unlike those who think us Rper's are just sex-crazed freaks, this person is 110% right. My server is one of the most active, and one of the friendliest in my opinion. TRP makes it easier to get an idea of people and what they're doing. I make profiles for my alts that don't I RP on.
It's crazy to think that Hardcore WoW started as someone just like this who wanted to play the game differently and I can honestly see you stumbling upon something EVEN better than hardcore but for the retail community. THIS is truly an awesome video and idea my friend, pulled me away from my transmog runs to watch the whole thing

Best damage by a long shot at low levels is probably Resto Shaman. They're so broken. You don't even have to heal because you chain lightning everything to death before your tank can take damage.
I remember leveling a blood DK and i was wondering how the healer had more dmg than me, it was close but it just said “28000 chain lightning” and i was just shocked literally
@@Zurax00 healers do nutty damage at low levels. holy priests can clean sweep dungeons at lvl 10-15 or so by just clicking holy nova over and over again
For a while there it was possible to have a level 55 death night free to play. Obviously this is before the level squish, so I'm not sure if it's possible anymore.

@@knavenformed9436 yeah you get all expansions prior to the current one to play in open world or dungeons, you just don’t get raid or most endgame zones, like the cata high level zones. There’s a few that do leak through though, like mechagon

god you made wow look incredible, infact you make it look how amazing it would be if there was a WoW 2 like... all the elements of leveling in classic but in retail. no more immedite shortcuts to max level skipping through every story and expansion to get you into the endgame. like a CLEAN slate style of retail... I wish they would make fresh private realms on retail
I'm broke because I have a mortgage to pay off for the next 30 years. At least my car's paid off. But playing WoW without a subscription is a lot less stressful as well. I can just chill instead of stressing out about getting 370 item level gear for the new Kobold Khaos dungeon in Titanfarts or whatever to help Elune find the Cheeseburger of Domination so she/her can defeat Ghur'xurg'alax the Evil

Pros and cons of the classes, who it's easiest to solo stuff with, etc. I would love some info like that to help guide my class choice when I try f2p wow again. I also realize this is selfish, but just throwing an idea out there.
I played level 20s for 2 years or so and prior to Dragonflight, it was a thriving community of Twinks, RPers and generally lovely people. Needless to say, it's missed.
The 2.area for tauren, Trolls and orcs Brackland? Idc im German. Dude the Chat was insane. You leveled. While sitting down Leggings you Just Talk To everyone in the Chat. This was the time wow was a mmo.
Fun tip about the i50 restriction on some enchants. They still work if you use them on scaling gear such as heirlooms, if you enchant them before lv17 while they're still under i50.
Great video, this definitely brought back memories for me. Your video reminded me of all the weird shit and painful grinds f2p had to do for +2 dps! When I was 11 or so I had no way to pay for a subscription, but was determined to play WoW anyway so I racked up a disgusting amount of time on the free to play mode. I remember stealthing all the way to Stranglethorn and camping Gurubashi Arena for the heirloom, among various other insane tasks. I ended up eventually buying a subscription and playing for many more years, but free to play will always be nostalgic.
I love things like this! As someone who's currently levelling their own 'challenge character' but in a slightly different spirit, I found this video really informative. My character is locked at 59 and completing all quests/collecting all transmog & achievements from each expansion before moving on. Thank you for the video.
Dude i did this back in 2008 when my account got bugged rolling from the tbc > wotlk upgrade, it became a wotlk account but couldnt download the wotlk files for whatever reason at the time. Left my in a 3 month limbo of trial account spamming.. Back when they were 10 days each haha, 10 hotmail accounts later I finally got my main account back working haha. This just gave me the ultimate nostalgia trip, love the vid man! The things I used to do just to play with my friends ay, WoW was social media before social media lol
For VH, you can chose the exact boss sequence by clicking the torch things that are located in various locations in that dungeon, the order you click them in dictates the boss line up, I didn’t see anything about this on the internet at all, either I was lucky 4 times in a row after clicking them in a certain order, or its a overlooked part of the dungeon, and to reach that TBC dungeon, get the anti gravity toy to boost you in the air and goblin glider to it, or there’s also a trinket from MOP, it drops from a rare elite in the vale that also boosts you in the air
Going through the enchants lately, It seems one of the patches between when this video was made and now changed the rules for item levels required to apply enchants to gear. So the section of this video talking about the best enchants MAY be out of date, and I'd encourage you to do your own experimentation if you're looking to do this yourself
I remember when I got "Universal Explorer" in Shadowlands solely as a level 20 free trialer. That was a cool adventure but your story sounds much more intriguing.
Nice video! My favourite time to twink was late legion doing speed sets, you could run insanely fast permanently, it always threw people if you hopped into any content running at that speed
Man your video is soo good that made me play wow like this again. after 50 or more run i finally got Sul'thraze. pro tip: if you are a warrior, you NEED to use arms, Ignore pain and Consumables if you want to solo Dungeos
I actually have that on my main, but since it doesn't count as a toybox item (why blizz...) I couldn't use it on my trial and didn't wanna bother farming a limited time event item for the possibility of a trinket that might not even be any good. I mean, to show I'm not just tooting my own horn, I actually forgot about the cannon when I made the video, but there were other darkmoon faire items I willingly opted out of for that reason, so I'm not a TOTAL fraud!
maybe its not as bad in heavensward, and my experience with ff14 is from the free trial that stops there...but I didn't really find it to be much of a grind soloing. This has it beat by a long shot, but idk if the grind got worse for solo players after HW
I mean I'll be honest I did this years ago when the free to play model was first introduced, but it's wonderful seeing other players take part in the same fun. I used a hunter for my experience and it was pretty good.

Before the level squish a few years back, I played WoW this way too. I had a draenei prot paladin that had more or less perfect gear in every slot, I was two-manning dungeons with a friend playing a marksman hunter (me being the tank and the healer simultaneously). It was a great time. The level squish dropping me to level 10 & making my gear no longer the best kinda made me give up that character, haven't played it since.
well the nice thing about that squish is that it made a much broader range of content available to play via chromie time. Personally, i wish theyd just stop raising the level cap in the first place but it is what it is

I know that I am a little late to the party but you absolutely can solo strathholm. It does take a long time but it is very possible because there are no insta-kill macanics. I ran the dugeon on a lvl20 to make sure and I could did it without dieing. Great video otherwise!
I do this all the time when I get bored of the endgame. My level 20 twink, a windwalker monk, can solo every dungeon I have access to, and is fully decked in ilvl 87 versa/mastery gear.
this was an absolutely beautiful journey. thank you for taking us along with you for the ride. when you were trying to get the enchanting mats, what ran through my mind was Tailoring. I main DH with enchanting as my main profession, and I have tailoring as my other one. It allows me to craft the gear to get the mats i need, and it doesn't require another profession to harvest the materials, since it's all dropped from humanoids (or in WoD, Beasts) I recognize that you probably didn't want to lose all the progress you made in Jewelcrafting, so thats why you went with that, but if you (for some reason) do this kind of thing again, you might want to look into tailoring! plus, bags are always nice
I remember playing on a private server more than a decade ago. The Hand of Justice trinket was infamous during Vanilla and even Burning Crusade, because it the chance to proc was not reduced like on the official servers. And both Vanilla and BC had melee classes do a Lot of damage from autoattacks. Them completely disabling it is really chirurgical fun removal. Now when huge portion of damage was shifted into active abilities, away from autoattacks, it wouldn't even be that stellar.
Great video! There’s communities that revolve around theorycrafting lvl 20 BiS and what’s possible at lvl 20, but it’s very impressive you were able to find out this much info on your own. The xpoff community and 20s discord will have a PLETHORA of info for you, as well as dedicated f2p players that can help with your questions. There’s players that have never had a sub on their account and have 20k+ achievement points at level 20
I tip my hat to you. You made wow look really fun to play again to me. Mostly because im into pushing things to its limits with restrictions. I might sacrifice my summer vacation to try this out. Cheers!

They made the Warbank 1000 gold and reduced the free trial gold amount to 999,

Free to play twinking has been big for a long time. Recently however its less popular since they removed the level 20 bracket in pvp.

You might’ve gotten lucky. iirc all those little switches do is clear all the trash that are currently up in the room

My favourite time to twink was late legion doing speed sets, you could run insanely fast permanently, it always threw people if you hopped into any content running at that speed

pro tip: if you are a warrior, you NEED to use arms, Ignore pain and Consumables if you want to solo Dungeos
yeah warriors have always had the roughest time with soloing. They just fundamentally have very little in the way of panic utility or self healing
You can reach TBC dungeons in the sky via darkmoon cannon toy. Done it on my hunter years ago while farming twink gear.
I actually have that on my main, but since it doesn't count as a toybox item (why blizz...) I couldn't use it on my trial and didn't wanna bother farming a limited time event item for the possibility of a trinket that might not even be any good.
I mean, to show I'm not just tooting my own horn, I actually forgot about the cannon when I made the video, but there were other darkmoon faire items I willingly opted out of for that reason, so I'm not a TOTAL fraud!

maybe its not as bad in heavensward, and my experience with ff14 is from the free trial that stops there...but I didn't really find it to be much of a grind soloing. This has it beat by a long shot, but idk if the grind got worse for solo players after HW
I mean I'll be honest I did this years ago when the free to play model was first introduced, but it's wonderful seeing other players take part in the same fun. I used a hunter for my experience and it was pretty good.

Before the level squish a few years back, I played WoW this way too. I had a draenei prot paladin that had more or less perfect gear in every slot, I was two-manning dungeons with a friend playing a marksman hunter (me being the tank and the healer simultaneously). It was a great time. The level squish dropping me to level 10 & making my gear no longer the best kinda made me give up that character, haven't played it since.
well the nice thing about that squish is that it made a much broader range of content available to play via chromie time. Personally, i wish theyd just stop raising the level cap in the first place but it is what it is

I know that I am a little late to the party but you absolutely can solo strathholm. It does take a long time but it is very possible because there are no insta-kill macanics. I ran the dugeon on a lvl20 to make sure and I could did it without dieing. Great video otherwise!

I do this all the time when I get bored of the endgame. My level 20 twink, a windwalker monk, can solo every dungeon I have access to, and is fully decked in ilvl 87 versa/mastery gear.

when you were trying to get the enchanting mats, what ran through my mind was Tailoring. I main DH with enchanting as my main profession, and I have tailoring as my other one. It allows me to craft the gear to get the mats i need, and it doesn't require another profession to harvest the materials, since it's all dropped from humanoids (or in WoD, Beasts)
I recognize that you probably didn't want to lose all the progress you made in Jewelcrafting, so thats why you went with that, but if you (for some reason) do this kind of thing again, you might want to look into tailoring! plus, bags are always nice

I remember playing on a private server more than a decade ago. The Hand of Justice trinket was infamous during Vanilla and even Burning Crusade, because it the chance to proc was not reduced like on the official servers. And both Vanilla and BC had melee classes do a Lot of damage from autoattacks.
Them completely disabling it is really chirurgical fun removal. Now when huge portion of damage was shifted into active abilities, away from autoattacks, it wouldn't even be that stellar.

Great video! There’s communities that revolve around theorycrafting lvl 20 BiS and what’s possible at lvl 20, but it’s very impressive you were able to find out this much info on your own. The xpoff community and 20s discord will have a PLETHORA of info for you, as well as dedicated f2p players that can help with your questions. There’s players that have never had a sub on their account and have 20k+ achievement points at level 20
