One of your best, Adam. I could feel the emotion in your voice at the end as you could imagine the sadness Jack felt when he lost his beloved sister. Please don’t ever stop what you are doing, many of us will have severe withdrawals from your hearing your stories and the way you tell them. Thank you Charles Kuralt, I mean Adam the Woo.💙

HEY ATW...NOW THIS...is a vlog which really is so important to History. The information presented is diligently researched and filmed in a way which would someday be used as a tool for teaching. Another outstanding video, with such a deceptively simple, casual delivery. I say deceptive, since I know how much work you must actually put into a video like this - from the idea, through research, location reconnaissance, planning, shooting, editing, and other points of finesse that harmonise altogether to deliver a slice of culture to us, your loyal viewers.

I love a good biography! Jack Kerouac is a textbook example of living life without boundaries, and experiencing the consequences. Or alternatively: a warning to others, depending upon where your beliefs live. Married 3 times, broken relationships, an alcoholic, broke and living with his mother, dying after starting an argument with some guys at a bar, that beat him up, causing mortal internal hemorrhaging. An ending that would certainly make a sad but great movie.
What I get out of studying Jack Kerouac, is a need for moderation. Don’t limit yourself to a comfortable box that makes you miserable, but don’t kill yourself with excesses that lead to nowhere.

I looked Jack Kerouac up, there is an actual video of him on You Tube/ Jack Kerouac on the Steve Allen show. He reads a little from one of his books. He seemed a little uneasy at first but as he read he loosened up. The clip was from 1959. Boy do I miss shows like The Steve Allen Show.(TV back in the days of relaxing and a snapshots of what was current at the time)

Thank you for this vlog, Adam. I’ve known “about” Jack Kerouac my entire life but was introduced to his writings because of my very conservative upbringing. You spurred me to research his life and works more deeply. I discovered that we share the same birthday, March 12, although my arrival was 33 years following his 1922 birth. He seemed to be somewhat of a tortured soul which came to light following his enlistment in the Navy.but a fascinating man. His life was one grand dichotomy of excesses, religions and relationships. Wouldn’t it be a fitting tribute, 52 years after his death, if a film of his life were made?

Now everyone wants to hop a freight out of Los Angeles.
Kerouac used to type on rolls of teletype paper to avoid changing pieces of paper in his typewriter. He also took Benzedrine and would write for 48-72 hours straight.

I love the old Cottage look. We still have a few homes in my neighborhood that look like that. They won’t be around much longer though I am sure. The Illinois folk come in and buy them and modernize them into something else eventually. It’s sad really because most of them just need a minimum amount of love to look 50 years younger and they destroy them to the bones and start over expanding them into mansions. That Publix was awesome. Love it! Great video.

Bob Kealing is a great friend of mine. I actually got to write part of, "Visions of Paradise," my Kerouac biopic in that very house. It was a little spooky. Kerouac had quite a history with the Central Florida area. The Kingswood Manor house was right around the corner from Video Review (which was my personal film school before film school). The cool thing is he cut a door in the back of the house so he could easily step outside to commune with the spirit of his brother Gerard. Both houses featured in "Visions" and it would have been cool to shoot there. I pitched the project all over town and was really surprised at how few Hollywood people knew who Kerouac was. One development guy who told me "On the Road changed my life" strongly pitched the idea of Don Cheadle to play Jack - that's a great story - clearly he had no idea of who Jack was.
Finally I learned that one of his dream scenarios was to live in one of two lots he bought in The Springs (very close to Sweetwater Oaks where I grew up) and have his mother and sister's family live in the other.
A really cool followup literary journey should be to Deland where you can trace H.P. Lovecraft's time in Florida (he loved it) with a teenage fan, Robert Barlow, who became his literary executor and eventually taught anthropology to William S. Burroughs! Their strange friendship is the subject of yet another of my esoteric literary screenplays...

    Nice video Adam.
You need to come back to College Park and check out a couple houses here that were in the 1989 movie Parenthood, plus one other in Winter Park.
And then Earnest Saves Christmas also was filmed in Orlando... you could check out those locations too.
