I did this last year from a public dahlia and put the cutting straight in the ground.
I forgot about it until I saw the most amazing deep maroon waterlily type flowers.
I've kept the tuber and seeds for this spring.
    It's such a surprise!
    Love propagating 😊

Oh wow! This is fabulous. I never knew I could take dahlia cuttings, at this time of year. So happy to have found a way of ensuring continuity of my dahlia collection, should my mature plants not survive storage over winter. So space saving yoo. Thank you again. :-)

Brilliant, this is the first time I've heard about propagating dahlias at this time of the year. I'm going to try it. Thank you! 😍

It’s like you read my mind! I was trying to see if it was possible to propagate dahlias at this time of year and what the method would be, thanks alot!

Hi Rosy - I am thoroughly enjoying your videos. One of the best gardening channels I have come across which lots of really practical information. One question, I’m in Norfolk UK Zone 8b which means -9.4c to -6.7c. I only have an unheated greenhouse. Do you think they would overwinter ok in there?

Experienced a number of sub-zero nights last December & January with temperatures reaching a low of -10 centigrade. I expected to lose all my dahlias that had been left in the ground, but no, they all re-appeared, albeit a bit late, come the spring. I often wonder what people do with their unwanted insurance cuttings. After all, you can only give away so many before your friends start avoiding you.

You can give it to your local church garden or you can plant them outside ie around the parking lot, on the street etc. There is always smth you can do about it

Will these cuttings flower the following spring? Do you need to keep them protected through the winter, and if so, at what temperature. On the mother plant, Do you lift the tubers in the fall and store in a dry environment? I would be interested in a video on lifting, drying and storing viable tubers…Thank you, love 💕😆

If you do not have a greenhouse can you bring them in to your home to overwinter? Zone 5 Indiana. Definitely cannot leave in the ground here. Always must dig up. But would love to get more. Thanks for showing

I think inside the house would be too hot unless you can place them close to a window. Or you can use one of those grow light to prevent the plants from getting thin and leggy. Anyway you can try. If it doesn’t work a few cuttings won’t cost you much time nor money.
