    Me before watching video: Hell yea. I'm making this today! After watching video: Wow! Maybe I'll have to re-think it. hehe
    That is amazingly awesome. You make it look so simple but after having done a few....they are not that easy to fold. Fun anyway though. I appreciate you sharing your art with us. xo

      Thank you and yeah some of these do take some more practice to get them down... you can change the degrees, I did lines at every 20 degrees, you can switch it to every 30 or 45 degrees, which will give you less points on the star, but will be easier to fold as there will be less folds stacked up .... You are Welcome!! ... I love what I do and want everyone to have success with tie-dye!! Peace ~ Carl

    It is the 9 ray star that holds some significant latent artistic potency that eludes common commercial offerings.
    Explore and demonstrate the techniques that provide you joy.
    Like putting a wig wag under the spider instead of DNA or crumple.

    Great video! I was wondering why my Mandela tie-dye shirts all turned out as circles. I missed the part of needing to tie on angels. 😮 I will try again!!

      Glad it was helpful ... yes the more angle you put on the sharper or longer your points will be .... I wish you success on your next mandala!!

    Your tips are fantastic! This is the 2nd time I have made Tie Dye and I find you to be the best resource! One question however, Once my dye is applied, I place the shirt in a plastic bag. I have heard some folks rinse after 24 hours while others wait 3 days before rinsing. How long do you usually wait before rinsing?

      Thank you... I love what I do and I love to help others by sharing my knowledge of tie-dye ... I used to leave mine for 24 hours, but when I was trying to improve the black dye, I found that leaving them for 48 hours with some heat added I was getting a nicer black and the rest of the colors looked a bit better as well... so now I leave all of my dyes for 48 hours

    So when doing a star or Mandela it's better to have the fabric dry and it'll soak in all the way? And also when doing a mandala you want the sinew to be on really tight so the colors don't mix correct

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know people do them different ways, I like to fold mine while they are damp and yes pull the sinew very tight to keep colors separate, but also to leave the white lines... after it is tied, then I leave it to sit for a few days to dry out so that the dryness of the fabric will encourage the dyes to seep all the way into the middle for good saturation.... I also will pres on the sections with my cuticle pusher or squeeze them with pliers (I put tape on them to cover the teeth)

    what is soda ash water ? new at this .like your work connie hayes

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      when working with fiber reactive Procion dyes, (and these are the best dyes if you like bright, long lasting colors) they need a high pH, around 10.6 - 11.0 to activate them and this is what the soda ash does... it is a chemical they use in swimming pools to raise the pH, so it works great for tie dye... here is how I mix it or make it ..... th-cam.com/video/vD1MSB0sAY8/w-d-xo.html

      it is sinew ... well technically it is artificial sinew and here is how I use it ..... th-cam.com/video/nRKtNBZB5Qo/w-d-xo.html

    I tried following what you were doing but you were not very clear on the tying part I was using rubber bands. I ended up throwing the shirt and quitting. Maybe you could explain a little better for people using rubber bands and just starting.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      this is a tricky design to do and will take some practice to get it down, I am not sure I could do it with rubber bands in the same fashion .... but I will do some videos on using rubber bands instead of kite string or sinew .... and I will see if I can do this one with rubber bands and if it works, then I will post a video of my process
