The reason i enjoy Teez McGee so much is he is so happy to enjoy music, also who else would take the time to react to EVERYONE'S comments and reply? This guy is gold😊
U need to understand that zappa was a genius who did whatever he wanted to do cause he could..rock, jazz, classical blues, avant garde, progressive etc etc..this is y he has a loyal following..
That was an orchestral group called 'The Ensemble Modern,' who approached Zappa wanting to play his orchestral music. They got together and put together the album called the Yellow Shark. This was not improvised, this was an orchestral piece Zappa wrote, and he did not perform on this piece either, just the orchestra playing his version of classical music, call it neo-classical I guess.
Its called get whitey because only the white keys on the piano were used.this peace is some sophisticated music it demands a little more from the listener. Listen to it again later it will grow on you
Had no idea about the keys. Thanks for that! My initial thought was it was a parody by virtue of the title, reframing the music as a caricature stand in of European and Russian classical music, like there's a genocidal mob after these composers or their work.
Good to see that you removed that Beatles poster from the background. The Zappa poster is on it's way. Zappa showed what to others what they thought couldn't believe could be done. He did.
SUPER deep Zappa cut. From his last public appearance, the live performance and recording of The Yellow Shark album. Not to be taken as a regular Zappa piece. These were songs he wrote in the 60's, 70's, and 80's that he never though a live orchestra would be able to play. He just wanted to hear them played before his death. Recorded in 1992, released in November 1993. Frank passed away a month later. Video of this entire concert exists on TH-cam. Just search the song name and "Yellow Shark Concert".
Welcome to the “other” side of Frank Zappa! I’d guess that at least half of what he wrote was something more like this than the other Zappa stuff you’re enjoying so much! His music is its own universe.
Really? You decided to jump in the deepest of deep ends of the Zappa pool? I knew before it even started you weren't gonna be thrilled with this one. Sometimes ... you really need to know what you're getting into BEFORE you listen. FOLKS... THIS is about as real as it gets... this guy REALLY did not know what he was about to listen to. You get a big applause from me for even trying... and the funny part is... this is one of the more accessible pieces. But if you want to hear one other orcherstra song that you might like a little more on a POP level... it would have to be G-Spot Tornado. Good luck if you plan to continue with Zappa and his whimsical ways. And I'm glad you were able to find some pleasure in this piece. It is one of my favorites.
Your remark about cartoons is in a way right; only the other way around. Americans often dismiss modern serious music because they very tightly connect it with comic cartoons which are not to be taken serious. Fortunately, you are open minded.
It finally happened - Teez misdiagnosed an FZ track. Where other hear ethereally textured eerieness and tenseness (and a writing-style not unique to Frank but one that he mastered) - Teez hears "sound effects", and also hears improvisation where there is none. If one wanted an example of instrumental-Frank genuinely sounding "cartoonish" (onomatopoeic, episodic), one would play a track like Pedro's Dowry or, for the more sinister version, Jonestown. Something more mysterious like this is coming from a different mindset. About the title - Frank initially denied that it was about the 1991 LA riots (instead parroting the dubious "it-started-out-all-diatonic/white-keys" story), but he later backtracked (cf: Ben Watson)
The most advanced pieces of his career - a tough first listen but well worth the investment of repeated listenings. Carry on - you're doing great. ps- Evelyn, a Modified Dog and Harder Than Your Husband to decompress from this.

Zappa was out there waving his freak flag, higher than anybody.

The style is avant garde modernist.
Its modern music
yellow shark...man it took me quite awhile to get moved by this but when it did..it was like a strange vision quest with zappa in the background
It's a complex avant garde modernist orchestral composition.
The amazing thing is that not one bit of that piece was improvised. Every note was meticulously planned for each musician.

He did.
@George Duffy you didn't invent how to write either, but you do.
@George Duffy that's your opinion and you are welcomed to it.
he was inspired by movie and TV music

You know how much I love Zappa.... but I can't bring myself to hit the like button. The night is off to a bizarre start
Great composer of 20th century
He made his own universe where one doesn't listen to the rules
lmfao who requested billy the mountain 🤣
A mountain is something you don't want to fuck with
It does sound like improv but Zappa did his own thing, right.

Generation X learned about music from cartoons. Check out Raymond Scott who did everything from cartoon jazz to experimental electronica.

Sounds like a Disney soundtrack...but you never know what's going to transpire with Zappa!
Disney soundtracks are much more tame and tonal.

With all the great songs left, why would somebody request this one?
Fantastic music
TV on the Radio

Probably Billy the Mountain.
