What a delightful video! I ordered this monitor this morning off Amazon, can't wait for it to arrive in 3 weeks so I try it out! Thanks for the great review :)
I ordered one refurbished from eBay with a years parts and labour warranty on the back of your review, thank you for helping me to avoid the odyssey and LG alternatives, this seems to be newer tech.
I got it for roughly 950$, and at that price, it seems well worth it, or at least very competitive to what's available. My only significant issue with it so far is the lack of DP 2.1
Hi Prawn, its black friday soon and i am concidering buying an Oled as my daily driver. Would you recommend me the Samsung g9, which i can get for 940 Euros, or the Philips Evnia, which i can get for 890 Euros? Right now, i got the Gigabyte Aorus 42", the TV looking one with VA pannel and HDR 1000. I have issues with smering when i see fast movement or i move my mouse fast, it drives me crazy. It feels like the Red collor is first there to create the picture and the others follow up. Thats why i am thinking OLED. Because i want to use it as my daily driver, which one is better with burn-in?
Watching this review on the exact same monitor and i have to agree with you on all of your points. Seems like a 90% finished product to me, they're betting a lot on the OLEd and the slightly forgetting about other things like the ambiglow.
It would have been good to have included how many HDMI ports it has and little things such as that. I have ordered one anyway, but the listings on Amazon are massively confusing, It says white, but then it says black when you order. It also says HDMI 2.1 but other places it is 2.0 (2 ports). The listings also say white, but the front looks like a grey, silver. However, this was a complete impulse buy, I did a search for 4K monitors as it is black Friday soon, but my main focus was a white monitor, and this was sponsored and once I saw it, I had to have it. I ended up buying from overclockers as they listed it as white, so I hope that it is when it turns up. If it is another colour, it will be sent back. What actually sold me, was finding out that this has built in speakers, and I have not heard them yet, but I have seen people say that they are very good. I will do a sound test, but as I prefer to sit in peace and quiet the speakers will never really be used apart from YT videos. I just wish that I had not done a search this morning as I am broke.
The sniper mod thingy can be done with the free program called Reshade , you can create a zoom like that and put it where you want (and also make your games look better)
Thinking about getting this. You touched on the refresh rate while using PBP but can you confirm if both sides of the screen actually run at 120hz while using PBP. It's quite important to me and I'm struggling to find information about this.
I'm still rocking it out on the monitor, perfect besides for the auto brightness dimming mainly while gaming, I even get zero freesync/vrr flicker which is great. But the auto brightness dimming for 1-3mins every 20-45mins is annoying during gaming sessions. They need to add a firmware update that fixes the "ABL". Anyone else get annoying ABL on their 49m2c8900? I've had 2 of these, each with brightness dimming that's aggressive af.
No sh Sherlock, but at least change the message up plus of no one is replying to you already, then spamming every platform wont help much. Not saying Philips customer help is good, but it's there for a reason.
Is it possible to connect it as two monitors through the single USB-C? Or do I still have to connect it also using i.e. HDMI to have it act as two side-by-side monitors?
Thanks for your exceptionally good review! I´m also considering this monitor since the burn in warranty makes this the only viable purchase for an ultra wiede QD-OLED. One thing I don´t get is why the 34" version is better than this since this has the second gen QD-OLED panel? Is it because of the firmware? Would you recommend this also for 8 hours work in home office? I´ve read a few comments on reddit that the 8h kick in time for the pixel refresh is a little annoying. Is it a static timer or can you change it manually? And if so - does the burn in warranty still apply since you modified the refresh timer? Appreciate your work!
New here... damn, what a voice! Oh, and thank you for the review, I think I'll go for this gem. Meanwhile it's available here in Switzerland for CHF 850.- (USD 1000/GBP 760)
@@TheProvokedPrawn Just been wondering, the settings that you are showing, are those exactly the same as they are here in the video as well? Because I'm getting both now as well and I would love for my Mic to sound exactly as it does in this video here as well. Thanks in advance!
@@TheProvokedPrawn Thank you so much! How is this monitor for productivity? I can't bring myself to buy an OLED for how many static things I have on my screen on a regular basis. Which is a shame because I love everything about this monitor lol
Hey prawn you are one of my favorite monitor reviewers. I know it is annoying but could you possibly show osd crosshairs settings in future videos for monitors you review. Most the presets the companies come up with are oversized trash. I live somewhere where I can’t see monitors in person, and th is would be extremely helpful for people like me.
The one very annoying thing about this model is horrible green/purple fringing above and below high contrast areas. If you try to read black on white or white on black text it looks like those old 3D movies with the green and purple cardboard glasses... really awful. I returned the first one as I thought I had a bad copy, I just received the second, it's just as bad. I have a 49" Samsung Odyssey at work, same technology, looks awesome. Returning this one as well and not buying Philips again any time soon.

Does that not get detected by anti cheat tools?
I have the Samsung G9 Oled and the PBP aspect is rubbish. This ones looks better and seems less faffy, thanks for showing that.

The timer is annoying but you can ignore it
I wouldn't recommend this if you plan to work 8 hrs a day on it or any qd oled for that matter

Alternative is the 34" LG (21:9) WOLED.
That's very subjective of course but I'd say so yes

how do you turn the smart sniper thing on ? its greyed out here
as is the rest of those options
I don't recall it being greyed out unless you in pbp mode. It only works at full resolution from one display
what game is @ 1:21?

Lol nice. Id love to get a second for my samsung g9 but ive been limited to just throwing a couple tablets on the left and right side of the desk.
Get a bunch of portable displays and but them below the G9.

Yes sirr, she beautiful
32:9 is too much for me. PHILIPS 34M2C8600 21:9 is more for me.
ABL IS A JOKE ON THIS MONITOR ! EVEN IN SDR MODE !!! DONT BUY !!!
It dims up and down without any controll over the brightness
Just another reason crossplay shouldn't be a thing with pc
First
it's too narrow top to bottom. HARD PASS. That's the thing about this ultra-wide monitors.
… you know it’s the same as non ultrawides right? Ur 27inch or whatever you use is the same screen height.
